Goves seat is so safe though, a lot of people just assumed he’d be the next leader, there really won’t be many options from the “big” names who hold their seats.

I wasn't expecting Michael Gove to lose, but to not even have the possibility I agree is a disappointment.

Wish my MP would go. But he's campaigning already so in for the long haul. Two polls differ as one say he will win and another says he loses. Was a Tory safe seat with a majority that was over 20,000 and down to 8,000 at last election. He's my portillo. 🙏🙏😁

The same week he voted to cut the money disabled people can claim and whose wife, baroness Jenkin, said people use foodbanks as they don't know how to cook. He was happy to open a food bank in his constituency as the cameras were there.

Rees Mogg hasn’t resigned yet though, and it looks like he all lose. He’s a pretty good Portillo option.

I don't know which I wish for most, for my moment. Rees-Mogg or Braverman. I think I have to go for the latter. But I suspect she's reasonably safe, dammit.

Gove's seat wasn't safe in the slightest. He had an 18,000 majority in 2019 but that no longer counts as safe. He was going to lose to the Lib Dems.

Gove’s dreadful curriculum reforms and demonisation of teaching unions have so much to answer for. Schools and teachers and kids are so pressured and loads of children have huge anxiety about school thanks to him. I would have loved him to have had a Portillo moment. What he’s done is awful.

Portillo was a big name in the 1997 Tory party and in a safe seat. Was considered to be in the running as next Tory leader.

The Portillo moment was the point during election night when they announced he had unexpectedly lost his seat to Labour and it became clear how big Labour’s victory was going to be.
