To think the UK will become a barren, post-apocalyptic, dystopian, hell-scape if Labour win?

AIBU to be worried that within 2-3 years of a Labour victory, the UK will become a barren, post-apocalyptic, dystopian hell-scape?

Kier Starmer seems like a mad, leftist radical to me. It starts with VAT on school fees but where does it end???

I’m also really concerned that the imminent collapse of civilisation will have a big impact on house prices, and leave us in negative equity.

Anyone else?

Just you !

Sorry but adding vat to a luxury item that is paying for school that 93% of people get for free from the state doesn't equal disaster for the 93% of us!

KS a "leftist radical"? 😂😂😂

Which planet are you on OP?

@Fiftypencepiece living their best life laughing at folk who don’t get satire
folk who ask about planets whilst expressing displeasure with inappropriate smileys🤣🤣🤣
folk who spectacularly miss the point….

Zone2NorthLondon · 27/05/2024 19:47

@mitogoshi you too have spectacularly missed the point with your joyless lecturing post

It will when the state system is flooded with thousands of unfunded children! It won’t be quite as fun then.

I’ve heard the Labour are proposing to ban irony- can anyone confirm?

No one will be laughing anyway when the economy crashes.

Exactly. Nobody laughed during Truss’ 49 disastrous days.

And we can definitely expect five whole years of misery under Labour if they get in.

You can. I’m going to be pretty happy. You’ve had your turn.

I wouldn’t bet on it love. It’s far from a done deal.

I'll check back on this post in 2 or 3 years.

I wouldn’t dream of betting on it because the odds for a Labour government are shit, you’d barely get your money back. On the other hand bookies are offering 33/1 on a Tory win.

So why have so many Tories thrown in the towel? Those that haven't have even gone on holiday!

The bookies are rarely wrong.

Edited

I’m considering putting my local state school on notice about the potential deluge. Aside from the general impact, if they increase class sizes to 75-100 per class, all those polyester uniforms in one place might pose a significant fire hazard.

Don't be silly. Anyone who sends their children to an independent and doesn’t allow for increases in annual tuition/boarding/extra-curricular activities then finds themselves unable to meet the new fees has only their lack of forward planning to blame.

Our kids were at independents. Fees went up significantly each year. Increases should be anticipated and factored in.

Trixiefirecracker · 28/05/2024 13:06

Jesus, the sense of entitlement on this thread is unreal. Plus, as above poster said, increases should be factored in for education and if you are wealthy enough to afford a private school then you will be absolutely fine. However we all know the rich lot me to hang on to their money, that’s how they stay well off.

Absolutely. And increase levels of gullibility by a baseline 15% over their first term of office.

You have to remember that only the poor should budget and live within their means.

Most families didn’t expect the double whammy of COL and mortgage hikes and now 20% of VAT on school fees as well. I think you are the silly one if you think every family with DC in PS can afford this. Look at the published figures today 4 in 10 children will be forced to leave their schools. It’s a shocking and shameful attack on children and education, Labour should hang their heads in shame.

You mean the DM article based on a survey by Baines Cutler, a for-profit consultancy whose entire business is providing financial advice for private schools??

Lucky for most families (about 94% isn't it?) they won't need to worry about school fees on top of the Truss Tax on their mortgages/rent.

Merryoldgoat · 28/05/2024 16:20

@DuncinToffee

I work for an independent school and we get the various Baines Cutler stuff.

Those self selecting surveys are laughable.

Imagine thinking everyone will say ‘oh yes, it won’t affect me at all’.

One of our governors was actually taking about how it was a big consideration for him.

He’s a tech millionaire. It’s fucking nonsense.

If we see a 5% reduction in pupils I’d be shocked. It’s complete bollocks.

We are businesses and should be subject to VAT and corporation tax imo.

That's 4 in 10 of (generously calculated) 7% of children. Spread over a school system currently holding tens of millions, with already falling rolls because of demographics.

Don't be dramatic.

DuncinToffee · 28/05/2024 17:45

The state school system already coped with the intake of refugees and other state school closures

School places have already been allocated for September so good luck with finding a place as those outstanding oversubscriped ones.

Why should they?

They are trying to improve state schools by taxing the wealthy.

l applaud them👏🏼
