hiya, i have a new laptop, and i can't get it to connect to my livebox.

background--my pc is connected directly to orange broadband thru my bt socket upstairs. had never used my live box, and it's been in the box for 3 yrs.

Dug it out and tried to set it up down stairs so my lappy can access my account, but it doesn't want to. I spent one hour on the phone to orange who said i should just go to a wifi cafe or something and check it's not my new lappy.

I then thought lets start formthe beginning andtried to install the livebox via the ethernet port on my pc first. But got totally confused by what was supposed to go where.

i am stuck.

The p/w you sent me is fine for getting onto the website but when you added your PC I expect the software asked you to set a password (which is tied to that PC, so 5 different PCs could each have different passwords, separate from website password).

NetworkGuy · 18/06/2010 19:51

it doesn't matter if you are still on the website

NetworkGuy · 18/06/2010 19:53

Ah - when you changed password on website, it made LogMeIn in system tray (by the clock) go offline because the password stored there is no longer correct.

Can you see if the icon says it is offline, please?

piratecat · 18/06/2010 19:54

so, i changed my account password to the one i sent you, and that works, so what do you need, (the original one was a bit personal to some of my other stuff).

help!!!!

No you are not being thick!

Please could you add a new user
name webman
pass system

just to let me login - it's safer than allowing the 'guest' account to be on.

NetworkGuy · 18/06/2010 19:56

don't worry - I guessed you would not want to share a private password and would never expect someone to do so...

Let's see if the LogMeIn icon can be made to go online again, and then we should be making progress again...

piratecat · 18/06/2010 20:02

ok i got thelogme in iconback on my task bar.

with that you have a list that says

welcome
overview
desktop sharing
filesharing
options
about

in the desktop options, that's where I thougt i could send you the invitation f from earlier on.

the web page is also open, how or where do i find the place to add new user.??

NetworkGuy · 18/06/2010 20:04

Ah - the 'new user' is back on the Control Panel and Users (where you saw Guest before)

piratecat · 18/06/2010 20:04

ok found add new users on the website bit, but it asks for email only

piratecat · 18/06/2010 20:05

NetworkGuy · 18/06/2010 20:06

Yes, complicated this malarky, sometimes!

piratecat · 18/06/2010 20:07

ok the only thing i am allowed to do there is switch the guest account on.

nowhere to put those details you just supplied me with

OP posts:
NetworkGuy · 18/06/2010 20:07

Just don't despair - take a break anytime you want if you feel it 'getting to you'.

NetworkGuy · 18/06/2010 20:11

No way to add a new user? A little odd.

Anyway, earlier, when you were installing the LogMeIn software (when it blanked the screen) did you get asked to enter a Computer Access Code and then to enter it again to verify it ?

If so, could you e-mail that password - don't if it is something personal like date of birth or family name - we will need to change it...

To get onto your machine I need the access code and possibly to use the guest account... if you can let me know the access code, it will be a step nearer...

piratecat · 18/06/2010 20:12

ok when i clicked on guest it says create a new account?

is that what you mean?

OP posts:
piratecat · 18/06/2010 20:15

have emailed the access code

OP posts:
NetworkGuy · 18/06/2010 20:16

Yes, that's it.

webman + system (all lower case) please

piratecat · 18/06/2010 20:19

ok there is another user now called webmansystem (computer administrator)

and you have my access code

OP posts:
NetworkGuy · 18/06/2010 20:22

Ummm, it was username webman and then you might need to have done something like 'set password' before entering system

If you could add user webman I'll have another go.

piratecat · 18/06/2010 20:24

done

piratecat · 18/06/2010 20:27

there's a little person !!!! on the circle!!

NetworkGuy · 20/06/2010 17:34

This USB wireless dongle might sort out the problem - it will plug into the Dell on a USB port and connect to your wireless router, costs about the same as buying a PC card for ethernet, and is easy to fit as you just plug it in (without needing to open the PC case at all).

Best wishes, NetworkGuy.
