hiya, i have a new laptop, and i can't get it to connect to my livebox.

background--my pc is connected directly to orange broadband thru my bt socket upstairs. had never used my live box, and it's been in the box for 3 yrs.

Dug it out and tried to set it up down stairs so my lappy can access my account, but it doesn't want to. I spent one hour on the phone to orange who said i should just go to a wifi cafe or something and check it's not my new lappy.

I then thought lets start formthe beginning andtried to install the livebox via the ethernet port on my pc first. But got totally confused by what was supposed to go where.

i am stuck.

Sorry to hear your daughter is unwell - cannot help on that score - though of course she might be distracted if the laptop can be used...

"a line and three squares going off it"

Yes - that's fine as an ethernet port... so there's still a reasonable chance of getting it working!!

OK, well, rather than fix a time when you could put your PC on in public, perhaps you could e-mail (using a freebie GMail a/c if you prefer).

We can go from there.

Glad to know there could be light at the end of the tunnel - once the desktop is working OK on the Livebox we can tackle the laptop.

piratecat · 17/06/2010 16:27

network, hi, the lappy is working fine! that's where i keep posting from!!

OK, so if laptop working via wireless means we can plug the Dell desktop PC in via ethernet and (temporarily) replace Livebox by Speedtouch (so I can connect to the Dell desktop PC. Then once ethernet on Dell desktop PC working, both can be using the Livebox.

Or do you mean the laptop is working via ethernet cable ? If so, will need to use another cable to connect Dell desktop PC to Livebox and unplug Livebox from BT link, so as to put the Dell desktop PC online using the Speedtouch, so I can look at that PC remotely.

piratecat · 17/06/2010 19:55

laptop is working wirelessly.

Oh, then your multiple pairing button presses must have fixed that. So it could be time to put the Livebox back upstairs (unless you already have it there).

Glad that's functioning OK for you... makes life easier to know one is going OK.

piratecat · 18/06/2010 13:29

yes, livebox has been upstairs since sunday. I am back working on the desktop now. speedtouch set up. livebox plugged into pc via ethernet. typed, 192.168.1.1, but it won't got to the page.

OP posts:
NetworkGuy · 18/06/2010 15:28

Does 192.168.1.1 work from the laptop, please?

Are you ready to use LogMeIn to let me have a look at the desktop PC settings?

piratecat · 18/06/2010 16:36

hi, well it worked from the laptop when i configured it downstairs with the live box.
not sure you are around now?

OP posts:
NetworkGuy · 18/06/2010 16:56

OK, be patient. Hope you are installing on the Dell desktop PC

NetworkGuy · 18/06/2010 17:52

If asked for an access password to get onto PC (separate from logging into LogMeIn) then can I suggest using

remotepc

as it is appropriate

Has it blanked the screen (briefly) ?

Is there a new icon down by the clock ?

Also just wanted to check you chose the LogMeIn Free version...

piratecat · 18/06/2010 18:04

yep to all 3

OP posts:
NetworkGuy · 18/06/2010 18:06

OK, so if you right-click the new icon, does it give you any menu ?

You need to be using the desktop and the Speedtouch for the Dell to be 'online' so that LogMeIn can 'call home'

piratecat · 18/06/2010 18:07

yep got menu up, speedtouch is currently connecting me to you, to the ether and beyond.

ethernet cable is in situ between livebox and pc.

OP posts:
NetworkGuy · 18/06/2010 18:08

If you get a menu, it hopefully shows something on the lines of 'go online'

If you have a firewall (eg Windows Firewall) you might need to allow LogMeIn to pass traffic.

piratecat · 18/06/2010 18:10

it's online yes. can't see where it says anything about the firewlaa. should i turn firewall off?

that scares me tho!

OP posts:
NetworkGuy · 18/06/2010 18:11

OK, on the browser, presumably you are still logged in, so can you click 'My Computers' and see if you see your PC name, please ?

(Not seeing it here)

NetworkGuy · 18/06/2010 18:13

don't touch firewall - was just mentioning it in case you get prompt about an application being blocked and asking permission to pass traffic.

piratecat · 18/06/2010 18:14

sorry, i have now verified my account, and now on the web page, andmy pc is showing yes
