Thanks guys. I noticed there was a strange icon where the British Flag should have been. It was for Katakana - whatever that is
DS must have been fiddling with it.
So pleased it doesn't seem to be a virus [phew]
Weird that on System Prefs and Character Encoding it was set to English even though the flag icon was wrong Ah well, all sorted now
