JollyPirate · 14/12/2008 17:32

KnickKnackNaNollaig · 14/12/2008 17:32

try restartng your computer?

RubberDuck · 14/12/2008 17:34

Erm I translated that and it was mostly japanese characters with the word "sly" in the middle?

wonders if that means she's either too geeky, for knowing how to translate, or not geeky enough for not translating correctly

WhenFRUITYgotstuckupthechimney · 14/12/2008 17:35

Ok.

I've gone on the internet using my husbands log in. Obviously something to do with my log in?

I have a Macbook pro and for some reason when I type under my log in name on the laptop the writing comes up in japanese or something. Then when I press "Post" it comes up like it has above. What the feck is going on?????

WhenFRUITYgotstuckupthechimney · 14/12/2008 17:36

DP thinks it might be a virus?

OP posts:
AndATigerschickInAPearTree · 14/12/2008 17:37

That was my first thought ... virus ... sorry

KnickKnackNaNollaig · 14/12/2008 17:37

Go into >View
then >Character Encoding
Is anything there set to Chinese?

RubberDuck · 14/12/2008 17:37

Sounds like you've set the International settings screwy somehow.

Do you have a british flag icon up at the top right or a different flag - that's as good a place as any to start.

Then I'd try System Preferences: International and see if there's anything obviously odd there.

WhenFRUITYgotstuckupthechimney · 14/12/2008 17:37

Shall I try re-starting the laptop?

OP posts:
RubberDuck · 14/12/2008 17:38

If you're in Mac OS, a virus is less likely, tbh.

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 14/12/2008 17:38

Have you simply accidentally changed the language to Japenese?

WhenFRUITYgotstuckupthechimney · 14/12/2008 17:39

Just gone into my log in name again. Tried KnickKnack's idea. It says Western but the british flag isn't there

OP posts:
AndATigerschickInAPearTree · 14/12/2008 17:42

Really hope it's not a virus, I've just managed to get rid of one so they're at the front of my mind.

Feeling very out of my depth in 'Geeky Stuff'!!

WhenFRUITYgotstuckupthechimney · 14/12/2008 17:44

How do I know if it's a virus? and what do I do about it? DP being useless. Says he'll check later. I want it done now!!!!

OP posts:
AndATigerschickInAPearTree · 14/12/2008 18:06

Sorry, I can't help there ... I downloaded something that I thought was anti-virus software which turned out to be a virus I have a good friend who sorts out all my puta problems for a cup of tea and a slice of cheese on toast! I didn't even know it was a virus until he looked at it - I just thought it was annoying me because I wouldn't pay to 'up-grade' it

RubberDuck · 14/12/2008 18:08

View>Character Encoding I think is just browser specific. The British Flag doesn't show unless you ask the character palette to show in the menu bar.

It's the System Preferences>International you need to check.

It's very unlikely to be a virus - Mac viruses are pretty rare and you'd have had to have deliberately installed it and typed your admin password and everything.
