Did anyone play "The Secret of Monkey Island" on the PC many years ago?

I loved it (and the second one) but haven't played any PC games for years. I'd love to play some now in a similar vein - any recommendations?

Oh I loved it too it was so addictive. I'd play for hours then go to the pub and be looking around me thinking about the objects!! There are 4 MI you know so you could get the other 2 on CD rom.

lol - serves me right

It was looking at the Wii games thread - I'd completely forgotten about Monkey Island but I suddenly remembered the days I spent playing it when I was supposed to be working

there you go

Ledodgy · 17/06/2008 12:13

There's a cracking sword fight in the third one I think which is a fight of rhyme and words it's hilarious. Oh I may have to dig mine out.

ZoeC · 17/06/2008 12:13

loved that, loved Day of the Tentacles better though :D . And the Sam and Max games!! And last was Grim Fandango. Have missed those kinds of games since then.

Hotel Dusk for the DS is similar.

zog · 17/06/2008 12:14

thanks ledodgy, I've got vista though, so i assume those won't run on it?

zoec - are those all similar games? Will look them up.

link for a couple of them

Inquisitive · 17/06/2008 12:20

Oooh love these games - also Beneath a Steel Sky, Broken Sword 1 and 2, and wasn't there one where you had to collect different coloured fruit to make a magic potion? Ahhh, fond memories of wasting time instead of writing up my dissertation...!

ZoeC · 17/06/2008 12:21

day of the tentacle

zog · 17/06/2008 12:23

Ooh thankyou!

Mind you, if they're as addictive as Monkey Island and MN....

this site helps you run old games on new systems by the looks of it

EachPeachPearMum · 17/06/2008 12:45

Monkey Island 4 is for the PC.

I too was a MI addict!

EachPeachPearMum · 17/06/2008 12:45

Did anyone play LucasArts Zak McCracken?

Kevlarhead · 17/06/2008 19:02

Zak McKraken was before my time...

www.abandonia.com/

We got Beneath a Steel Sky off Abandonia the other day; point & click, very British.* Sadly LucasArts are enforcing copyright; given that everyone remembers Monkey island, and remembers it as one of their best games ever, they should put it on sale again...

PillockOfTheCommunity · 17/06/2008 19:03

OMG! I used to play this when I went round to see my geeky friend, had forgotten all about it!

Elmosgirl · 17/06/2008 19:05

Oh I loved Monkey Island.

serenity · 20/06/2008 09:48

Monkey Island MN baby names thread - What do you think of the name Guybrush Threepwood?

Definitely not enough point and click adventures nowadays. I get my jollies playing things like the Final Fantasy series, but I get fed up with the fighting bits - I just want a nice brain stretching rpg.

meimango · 21/06/2008 17:19

oooooh text and object adventure... salivates
outed myself now...

meimango · 21/06/2008 17:27

zog, you can get a free download from microsoft here

it lets you create "virtual" pcs on your computer - you can then install win 95/98 on these virtual machines , allowing you to play all your fave old games!

of course you still need an old win95/98 disc to install the old operating system first

thanks geekdh for reading over my shoulder whilst on mumsnet for coming up with the idea
