Did anyone play "The Secret of Monkey Island" on the PC many years ago?

I loved it (and the second one) but haven't played any PC games for years. I'd love to play some now in a similar vein - any recommendations?

I've also just remembered Leisure Suit Larry!

My 73 year old mum played Monkey Island [amile]

Doh

There are remakes of some of the earlier kingsquest series here

I never got in to Monkey Island,

But I do admit to having the following installed on my laptop (running under ScummVM)

Day of the Tentacle
Flight of the Amazon Queen
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
Loom
Sam & Max Hit The Road
Simon the Sorcerer 1
Simon the Sorcerer 2
The Dig

I love the talkies!

Oh and if anyone technical could help, Indiana Jones used to work fine, but has suddenly stopped... it now jumps between unconnected scenes. Ahh! May have to try removing saved games, and a reinstall.

I have recently been revisiting Dungeon Keeper

Thinking of old games... I had an Amstrad 1512 as a teenager, and Lemmings was one of the early games I remember playing a lot (instead of doing my GCSE studying). Getting Lemmings to work on a modern computer is hard... but someone has written a version using DHTML and JavaScript - so give it a go at DHTML Lemmings

God I played this back in the day. A good equivalent is on the DS now, erm, Professor Layton and the Curious village. Myst is also on the DS now. I tried Myst III I think it was about 8 years ago on the PS2 or Xbox and couldn't get beyond the first 5 minutes. I'm still at how impossible it was. I solved the original two on the PC.

Oh yes! Dungeon keeper! That was excellent. I remember completing that on a 6 week business trip to Sweden [nothing else to do emoticon]. Apart from the naked jacuzzis.

Pharoah was good too.

Professor Layton looks quite fun - playable demo - one puzzle, Wolves and Chicks

I like puzzle games... 7th Guest was another one which I recall completing. Bit of a pain to get to work though, required quite a powerful system at the time. 11th Hour I didn't find as good.

Thing is, I keep dreaming about it...

"your minions need a bigger lair"

"the lord of the land is approaching"

the original rollercoaster tycoon was good.

charliecat · 22/06/2008 11:46

Does anyone know what the game was and it had a volcano with poo spurtng out of it...? And there were level warps in the toilets?

nannynick · 22/06/2008 11:58

May have been WizKid. That had toilets in it, and a volcano. see Quick Round 3 Warp

charliecat · 22/06/2008 12:00

Oeeer thank you Thats it! Loved that game. Gonna google see if its available still anywhere.

nannynick · 22/06/2008 12:05

Wizkid download for PC

nannynick · 22/06/2008 12:11

I can't get it to install - errors saying no fixed disks. Expect it may need to be put on a floppy, and run on an old machine.

arfishy · 22/06/2008 12:12

LOL yes! 'Your minions need a bigger lair!'. I can hear the voice now after all this time [feels ancient and goes to bed with a nice hot cup of cocoa]
