No, I bought my Rose gold 6s at the beginning of the year and I'm hoping that is good for 2 or 3 years yet, it replaced my 4 year old 4s, which DS now uses as he lost his phone, so eeking out the last bit of life in it. I'm not bothered about upgrading each year as I don't use the phone that much as I use my new iPad and ageing Macbook in the house.

MrSlant · 09/09/2016 14:29

I bought one (well pre-ordered) at about 8.30 this morning Blush. So excited about it splash/dust proofness and the dual lenses on the plus. I have been waiting two years to upgrade though.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 09/09/2016 14:31

Will you come back and let us know of its awesomeness please MrSlant - I'm really interested

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 09/09/2016 14:34

wonder if you can use it in the bath?! I don't mean deliberately dunking it in, but with wet hands, or risking splashing and dropping it, etc.

And can you use the camera underwater?! That would be quite cool. But I guess it's not waterproof enough for that.

I haven't updated for ages, so I need to, but the question is whether to get the 7 or hope the 6 reduces in price now. But I do like the sound of the camera - though it's the 7 plus that has the good one.

How awkward is the large size to hold? Use as a phone? Carry around without dropping? etc

WannaBe · 09/09/2016 14:43

Nope. Lack of headphone jack will be apple's downfall on this one IMO, and I predict that headphone jack will re-emerge after huge slump in sales.

I'm a voiceover user so lack of headphones and ability to charge is an issue for me as I use them constantly. And no-one in their right mind is going to pay £150 for air pods. Although did someone say that the phone won't work with any other Bluetooth headphones/.

MrSlant · 09/09/2016 15:11

I use my 7 plus all the time and I love it, although it runs my hearing so it's essential to me anyway. I find other people's 'normal' sized phones really hard, everything is so tiny! I have exceedingly expensive 'air pods' which are probably where the technology evolved from as they were the first hearing aids made in conjunction with Apple.

As someone who loves taking photographs, obsessive really, and spends a ridiculous amount of time standing in the rain watching her children do sports but finds the ear phone jack completely useless it's like they designed the phone with me in mind. Very excited although it won't be here for a while, I will of course give feed back.

rollonthesummer · 09/09/2016 15:12

I use my 7 plus all the time

Do you have yours already?!

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 09/09/2016 15:24

I've ordered my 7 Grin

I'm not sure why the lack of headphone jack socket thingy is a problem? Or why it will be Apple's downfall? Wasn't it Apple that introduced USB ports and ditched everything else, and everyone said that would finish them off? But that's now industry standard.

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 09/09/2016 15:53

If it won't work with other Bluetooth headphones, that would be a problem!

I have a bluetooth headset already that I use for exercising, and I prefer it to anything that goes in my ears, as they just don't stay in (however small). But I don't see why a normal bluetooth set shouldn't work, or that people wouldn't be able to get other wireless ones that have a wire joining the earphones so harder to lose. And they can charge it at the same time as listening that way.

ShelaghTurner · 09/09/2016 15:58

Ordered mine too.

And anyone who uses the word 'sheep' in their argument immediately loses.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 09/09/2016 17:02

Okay so I was all ready to wait and be sensible....

Then the bastards emailed me to say I was eligible Grin

Sooooooooooo I have a 7 plus 128 Gb on its way next week - just have to sell my other one to the local second hand phone shop now to offset the cost.

Monthly bills will be less as well

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 09/09/2016 17:41

how will they be less? It seems SO expensive to me. But I pay only about £10 a month for a plan for my old 4s. It'll be about 5x that plus a large initial amount to get the 7plus, 128gb, which is what I'm thinking of too. If I can get over the size issue!

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 09/09/2016 17:42

Because it's a deal they gave me - I pay a lot monthly though so it makes a difference

MrSlant · 09/09/2016 17:53

Sorry, got over excited there I use my 6 plus all the time Blush they are the same dimensions though so shouldn't cause any problems.

I'm glad there are other people succumbing Grin

insertimaginativeusername · 09/09/2016 18:04

Oooh yep love a new phone! By chance I'm eligible for an upgrade now and EE have worked out a good deal for me for a 7. DH will be having my 6 and I'm selling his 5c to a friend.

MrSlant · 09/09/2016 18:19

It's going to be bonkers on ebay for a month or so!

Kione · 09/09/2016 22:03

I really don't like the size of the 6 and 7. When my 5s dies I'll get an iPhone SE

loopylulu80 · 10/09/2016 17:26

I'm going to wait till next year when they will hopefully have wireless charging. I very often charge and listen to music and refuse to buy those ridiculous airpods!

altik · 11/09/2016 10:22

I ordered my new 7 plus yesterday.

Currently on a 5S and my contract ran out a few months back, so have been waiting for the 7.

Apart from the cost of the new phone, contract monthly repayment will be the same as I'm currently paying - so I've only got the cost of the handset to pay.... I'll cover this by selling my old phone.

What I really want is Apple Pay. The number of times I've gone out to find someone has borrowed my cash card and forgot to put it back! That and the new camera. I use my phone for calls less than 1% of the time. So I wanted something good for texting, surfing the Internet, Internet banking (Apple pay etc) and the camera. Never listen to music on it - so the 7 plus suits my needs perfectly.

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 11/09/2016 10:35

I was considering whether I could keep my current tariff, and order the phone on the apple upgrade plan (so that it includes apple care for repairs etc). It would work out a bit more than a new contract from O2, though, but that would lock me into 24months (which is probably fine), and wouldn't come with apple care (again probably OK; it would be on my house insurance, but the excess would probably be too much to make a screen repair worth it, so undecided about this one).

also, my current tariff is a simple pay monthly one, that includes only 500mb of data. That's fine for what I use now. But if I had 4G, I wonder if it would use more? I read very conflicting advice about that on the internet. Some say it goes up just because you use it more when it's fast. Or because it sends you higher spec ads, once it detects you have 4G, etc. In the end, 500mb might not be enough, and if I upgraded that tariff, as well as buying from the apple store on their plan, it would probably be notably more than just getting an O2 contract.

I'm also wondering if the fact that there's a good camera would mean that I'd take a lot more pictures than before. (And of course they'd take up more memory anyway, as they're twice as high pixel count as my old one). I have a 16GB one now, which gets full easily. I hoped 32 might be enough for a new one, but it sounds like it won't really be - if the photos are double the size, I'll be as close to filling that one up soon as I am this one.

And then still the question of whether the plus size is too big to use comfortably...

Do either of them have the gorilla glass that is supposed to stop them cracking? I'd really rather not have to use a case, but I guess it's sensible. A screen protector if needed, but they're so big already that adding a rubber bumper case or whatever would make it huge!

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 11/09/2016 11:31

I have always used a case just for peace of mind.

As for memory, you can use the iCloud which should make things easier.

500mb is nothing in terms of data though. Do you have home broadband? I don't so my plan includes 24gb of data per month

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 11/09/2016 12:19

yes I have broadband, so data is only used when I'm out and about. I occasionally use it all in a month, but rarely.

this is why I'm still on a £13 a month plan! So anything more seems shocking, but obviously will be loads more if it includes the handset as well.

MiracletoCome · 11/09/2016 13:51

I used to have 500gb of data with my 3G 4s and never went over that. Now I have a 6s I seem to use about 1 gb of data but don't seem to do much different so it seems to generally use more

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 11/09/2016 14:24

thanks. sounds like I might be better off getting a new contract then. I'd heard from a few people that 4G seems to use it up more quickly.
