I will, I'm due an upgrade & will never make the mistake of going with anyone other than Apple again

ShelaghTurner · 08/09/2016 19:07

They're not the only wireless headphones in the world....

That's fine of course, but does everyone who is moaning about the lack of headphone jack realise that a) an iPhone will never have a headphone jack again so you're waving bye bye to iPhones. Again, fine. And b) they won't be the only ones by any stretch. Because everyone else will eventually follow, I guarantee it.

whywonthedgehogssharethehedge · 08/09/2016 19:07

No even the wireless wanker phones don't let you charge and listen. Sorry Apple you fail.

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 08/09/2016 19:08

would love the 7 Plus because of the camera.

But not sure whether I can cope with a phone that size! I'm still using a 4s that is on its last legs.

The cost of the 7 makes me wonder if I should just go for a 5 as it'll be cheaper than ever now, even a 6 might be, but I know that I'll still be hankering after the camera on this one, and given that I keep them for so long before upgrading, maybe I should...

I looked at the apple upgrade plan, and it seems fine if you aren't actually planning to upgrade - but if you do upgrade after 11 months, haven't you just basically lost that amount of money? You then have to take out another 20 month plan for the next one. I guess it just lets you do it earlier than you would with a normal contract.

And the apple care is included, but I can't tell yet if that means it's already adding on the £100 or so for that, and the actual cost of the phone (buying it outright or on a contract somewhere without Apple Care) would be cheaper then - I doubt they are really giving it for free. It could be useful though, screen repairs for £25

Hulababy · 08/09/2016 19:09

My phone isn't due for upgrade for about 18 months - no doubt they;ll be another new one out before then.
DD's upgrade is due next April (always a birthday present every other year now) - so we shall see.
DH needs a new work phone - currently has a Samsung but he wants an iPhone instead. So he has looked at it - will be upgrading his phone to some form of iPhone after this year.

whywonthedgehogssharethehedge · 08/09/2016 22:55

They're not the only wireless headphones in the world....

They are the only ones that work though. At least for now.

I love my iPhone but if it won't do what it too (charge with headphones in) then yes I will look elsewhere. I had an s6 before it. The phone was shit but there are tonnes more brands of android phone. Why would I be loyal to a point where I will buy something that doesn't do what I want it to for the sake of brand loyalty. That's stupid.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 08/09/2016 23:07

Is it worth upgrading from 6 Plus to 6S Plus?

This is the first time I have actually upgraded as only had a contract for two years so I usually bought a handset outright. I'm going to try to wait a couple of months so that any hassles should b ironed out

MrSlant · 08/09/2016 23:27

I must be one of the only people who is happy there is no headphone jack to faff with because it is of no use to me whatsoever! I already listen to my music wirelessly through my hearing aids and with no bizarre sticky down toothbrush bit either Grin. Being deaf doesn't have many plus sides but I'll take them where I can!

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 08/09/2016 23:29

I have a really stupid question....

Wireless headphones - do they need a wifi connection or is it more like Bluetooth where it pairs with the phone (I'm not normally this dense Blush)

WaitrosePigeon · 08/09/2016 23:29

I'm due an upgrade now so yes, will get it. Will probably wait a few weeks to see if there are any problems.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 08/09/2016 23:30

MrSlant Yay - you can shake your head sadly at those moaning about themGrin

MrSlant · 08/09/2016 23:45

I have to say it is amusing me a lot Drusilla, puny mortals who haven't already upgraded to cyborg technology Grin

RustyBear · 09/09/2016 00:00

The airpods connect using Bluetooth, but with Apple's own wireless chip, so they have Apple's own connection technology too.

RustyBear · 09/09/2016 00:05

You can charge while listening if you get an Apple Lightning Dock, which has a headphone socket.

AcrossthePond55 · 09/09/2016 00:10

Nah. The camera is the only thing that interests me and it's not enough to upgrade from my 6s.

We usually upgrade every two years IF that years model has enough new goodies to make it worthwhile.

AvengeTheDoc · 09/09/2016 00:27

I can upgrade in December, I don't think I will upgrade yet, I think getting rid of the 3.5mm is a mistake and will become a USP for Samsung and android. I like the gear VR and know that Apple are exploring it. I think that will make it main stream. I'm expecting a lot more next year for its 10th... birthday?!?!

Interesting is the Apple upgrade plan £33-40 a month and you can upgrade each year or after 20 months you own the phone but it's also £49 every time you pick up a new phone

CafeCremeEtCroissant · 09/09/2016 01:00

I'm a bit tempted, but my iPhone 6 is only a couple of months old.

ShelaghTurner · 09/09/2016 06:16

I'm not sold on the Apple upgrade plan. I'd rather stick £40 in a tin every month and sell the previous phone. I generally upgrade every year as DH and I have 2yr contracts that finish on alternate years. He couldn't care less which phone he has and he knows my hand me downs are always good phones in mint condition so he's happy with that.

Funko · 09/09/2016 06:43

Everyone (I've seen admittedly) seems to have missed other issues with lack of headphone jack.

I have a newish car but didn't have the Bluetooth pack. So I use my phone as sat nav in the car via the av jack and listen to Spotify with sat nav on long journeys. That's me screwed if I upgrade unless I pay silly amounts to upgrade my car kit

Gizlotsmum · 09/09/2016 07:04

Funko have to admit I hadn't thought about that, mainly because it isn't an issue in my current car ( has USB connection and Bluetooth). Interesting if I ever had a hire car tho

Bananasandchocolatecustard · 09/09/2016 07:16

Rubio - I have recently bought a Bluetooth connector ( can't remember the correct name). It plugs in like a charger, you tune it into a radio channel and play podcasts, your music via the car speakers. Mine was with wocher, £11 , lots more on Amazon. You can also charge 2 phones simultaneously.

Gruach · 09/09/2016 07:32

Hmm ... My 6 contract ends on 3rd October.

But I'm just not sure I can spare an entire weekend to tweak a new phone. Everything is where I want it on this one.

Oh. Apart from the "battery dying five minutes after charging" issue - which is a bore. Hmm

CalmYaTits · 09/09/2016 07:33

Nope. Ill let the sheep queue up for hours to buy them and if I'm that desperate I'll wait till the price goes down next year Smile My iPhone 5 works perfectly fine.
