AmazIng new discovery with iPad

Trying to mn under bed covers.
Screen kept switching views, so I googled it. Turns out there a side switch which you can either make for silent typing or to stop the views switching but sadly not for both. So stealth mning still a bit tricky.

Bet you are all enthralled with my amazing discovery.

You can also set it so that if you place all five fingers of your hand on the screen and then pinch them together it closes the app you are using rather than using the home button.

The multi gesture commands are apparently all very annoying if you are 2 years old and like playing fruit ninja though .

Ohhhhhhh!thats ace! Not sure if I like it though, suppose its for when you are holding the iPad and typing with your thumbs.

Ive disabled the multi finger swipe as ds keeps doing things to the iPad I don't know how to fix! He's quite technical for 15 months!

Anything else I should know?

I said that about the all fingers/thumb thing HOURS ago. nobody listens to me. Even my children don't listen to me. the bloody dog doesn't listen either.

You did, of course, all know about holding the !/, key to get an apostrophe didn't you? and ?/. for quotation marks?

If I'm honest, I've had an iPad for over 2 years and, whilst I knew abut the apostrophe, I've only just learnt the quotation mark one . As i tyled the tip on here, I thought "I wonder if the key next to it does something similar..."

I do love the multi touch gestures :)

My keypad won't split! What am I doing wrong?

No splitting here!

You all need to go into settings, General, Keyboard and turn split keyboard on .

I don't have a "turn split keyboard on" option.

Please can someone tell me how to enable the 5 fingers thing....

Do you also all know about the 'punctuation slide? If you just want to type one thing from the punctuation keyboard, such as a & and then return to the ordinary keyboard, touch the .?123 key, slide your finger to the key you want and let go and it will return to the 123 screen.

You can also get ° by holding the 0 key, ¿ and ¡ from ? and !, lots of currency symbols from the £, ? on the full stop and a variety of dashes -???, and § from the &, as well as various styles of speech marks and apostrophes. And of course, letters with accents from the appropriate letter.

No © or ?, though, you have to get those in other ways....

Little fish, just under general settings again, turn multitasking gestures on.

Not sure why some have no split keyboard option. My dh has the latest iPad and the dc and I have a first gen one each and all three have this.

To split the keyboard your ipad needs to be running iOS 5.

By the way, do you also know that if you split the keyboard, there are 'phantom letters' each side, for people who are used to typing y with the left thumb or t with the right, so you can get yhb by touching in the space to the right of tgv and thv by touching to the left of yhb.

Another useful feature is the shortcut setting - that's how I get my © - I type cp and get © - it's in General- Keyboard- Add new Shortcut. I've got my email address set up so I only have to type 3 letters, and MN turns into Mumsnet, plus a few others.

I have a trillion apps open but can't delete them. I'm pressing my finger on them but how do I delete?

I knew how to lock the rotation the screen, but not about everything else. I have just deleted loads of apps that were running!
