This thread just popped up on active - I hope you don't mind me joining in.
My climbing rose has gone mad this year - it's absolutely full of blooms.

That is stunning. What a fantastic colour. Do they have a perfume?

Toootss · 20/07/2025 13:24

Absolutely stunning roses @mamaduckbone

Did you ever discover what it was @Sweetpea1532 ?

I can finally join in, having started my border. A very slow and steady process. I'd love to just fill it to the brim but I know by next year I'd would be a giant mess so I'm having to try and ignore all the empty muddy spaces.

No @greenerfingers I never did... I got brave and stuck the hose pipe down in the hole. I was ready to run in case a giant animal came out the other side. Fortunately, nothing came out of the hole but water. I think maybe it was 2 squirrel holes close together that collapsed and made one big hole. ConfusedGrin
The flowers you've chosen are beautiful. I can see why you're tempted to keep on planting more.!

SunComeBack · 24/07/2025 18:32

Loving all of your beautiful photos. My new boarder has had abit of a growth spurt and all of the flowers look like they’ve appreciated the rain.

@applecatchers36 Interesting hibiscus! Ive never seen that variety. Each flower seems to be a bit different.
We just have those big tropical kind that have flowers that are almost as big as a dinner plate.

Sweetpea1532 · 30/07/2025 18:03

@ILikeDungsThey are beautiful. I really love these thread, so much inspiration from all of your lovely photos.
These big tall grass/lilies in my front garden have gone gone crazy over the last couple of weeks, along with all the daisies in the back garden.
After watching lots of videos on tik tok I’m going to try and get these hydrangea cuttings to root. Any tips welcome, I’ve never done it before.

SunComeBack Don't worry at all about your hydrangea cuttings, they will readily root. My SIL stuck a bunch in a pot of compost for me when she trimmed hers and I was terrified of killing them when I was ready to plant them into a hydrangea hedge (even complained about it on another gardening thread and was reassured).

I planted them, they romped away, and later when I cut them back I stuck the trimmings in the ground to thicken the hedge and pretty well all of them took root. They are pretty willing plants.

This is a photo of part of the hedge today, in the rain

Wow, @KingscoteStaff those are amazing...I 'm in awe at your ability to grow flowers from seeds. I've never had any luck with it nor with propagating
☹️

Toootss · 03/08/2025 19:35

Lovely mix of flowers.
And pleased to hear hydrangeas grow from cuttings -will do some shortly

Sweetpea1532 · 03/08/2025 19:41

The Monarch butterflies are flitting aroynd the gatden today...probably look8ng for some milkweed to lay their eggs on. Trouble is, their friends got here first and have eaten 8 plants worth... Im down to giving the larger caterpillars bits of cucumber and acorn squash. It's not easy being a monarch foster!

Monarch visiting my Buddleja plant.
The photo is of what's left of my milkweed plants...toothpicks, anyone?

Sweetpea1532 · 04/08/2025 17:59

@AnneKipankitoo That piece of acorn squash is now quite holey and the cucumber spears are nibbled down to nubs.
Im torn as to how to handle them going forward.
On a more positive note..I came home to a pink gladiolus
and a pink stargazer lily looking very healthy all by themselves with no imput from me.
