Yes @Sweetpea1532 . The one at the very far back is Rosa Officialis , the bush with lots of blooms is Gertrude Jekyll, and the bud at the very front which is red looking is Nostalgia. ( it was a thoughtful gift from a patient when I retired)

I have 2 of those bird frames for hanging baskets. I might need to paint them for next year.

Thank you for the descriptions of your beautiful garden roses. The Gertrude Jekyll is so prolific!

This thread just popped up on active - I hope you don't mind me joining in.
My climbing rose has gone mad this year - it's absolutely full of blooms.

Oh, I am so jealous @mamaduckbone

SunComeBack · 27/06/2025 22:43

@mamaduckbonei am also jealous!
I’m pretty new to gardening but I took these photos today on a walk. I believe the purple plant is a Russian Sage, how long do they take to get to this size?
And I’d really love to grow a blanket of these pink seaside Daises? Has anyone got any tips, how many packs of seed would I need to get a coverage like the photo, is it best to plant the seeds straight into the garden or would a pot be better?

Well, that make 3 jealous posters on this thread @mamaduckbone ..your roses are very happy and healthy looking and I love the pink colour.
@SunComeBack those are lovely. Thanks for sharing...I'm sorry I have no seed gardening tips for you. Seeds are not my strong suitEaster Confused

The garden is really coming alive now. Being up North on the coast with heavy clay soil on a slope isn't easy.

@SunComeBack A lot of it is about whether the plant wants to live where you want it to. They can be very fickle 🤣

One pack of seeds would create this effect and beyond - assuming they germinate and live to adulthood. You’d need to keep them in pots until a decent size and risk of frost passes. Daisy seeds tend to be 100+ in a pack. They can take a month to germinate and I think the recommendation is to sow in autumn and over winter. I am very much at the neglectful end of the gardening spectrum: I expect plants to want to live. Which means I steer clear of ones involving a lot of effort or uncertainty. Waiting that long for germination is not for me! Also, overwintering small seedlings is quite a faff…

Instead I’d buy 3/6 9cm plants of daisy and dot them about. They’re available now and quite reasonably priced which means you could enjoy them immediately. They’ll soon spread and turn into clumps you can split: be warned if they are happy you will end up with a LOT.

Re the salvia… if you bought a 2litre plant I’d expect it to be the image size in a couple of years if pests or circumstance don’t end it. 2 litres is big enough to be immediately impactful though.

A hidden bit of back border where my William Lobb and Adélaïde d'Orléans are having their yearly one off flowering finally! Lichfield Angel also pictured - which blooms until Christmas.

DH has been working on the edge of the pond today as you see the grass along one side is looking bad, this was a brick built box the whole length of the pond that had the pumps etc in. We’ve laid all the pipes under the lawn and into the shed (just out of picture) and have put all the pumps / filters etc in there out of sight and easy to maintain.. just need to put an edging round the pond to hide the liner now. Just can’t decide what. I fancy some crazy paving style slabs with something like chamomile or something spread over to soften it

Beautiful pictures from everyone. I picked up a few bargains from Blackbrooks and Aldi, the rose bushes are only £2.50 and so pretty.

Lovely @SunComeBack !

Yes @AnneKipankitoo @applecatchers36 ....what a big fat mess they've made of everything...I wonder what they were thinking!?Hmm
Hmmm, I think it may be time for another 'Baptismal' ceremony !😂

Sweetpea1532 · 12/07/2025 13:46

Update on the invasion of the squirrels!
I climbed up the slope to do a little investigating and was shocked at the size of the holes! Those are no squirrel holes which are about the size of a tennis ball...these were huge...volleyball sized...I decided against 'the christening' 'til further investigation because I didn't want to have a giant animal encounter whilst perched up on the side of a hill.
Any ideas? I was guessing at a fox
