Are those Felco No. 2, Sweetpea?

Sweetpea1532 · 13/07/2025 04:47

YES @ILikeDungs they are Felco, but Im not sure if they are No. 2 though...I'll go check.
Just checked, they are No.4. Do you have some? I bought them for myself for Christmas about 20 years ago.Ive not taken very good care of them, unfortunately. ☹️

Thank you @AnneKipankitoo Grin

Love my Felco 2, don't really know enough to understand the difference between F2 and F4 except they are both well made!

Mine were a very appreciated gift from DD. Good garden tools make a huge difference.

Do they cut more effectively or stay sharp forever? £60 seems a lot for secateurs…

I’m the sort of person who leaves secateurs out and finds them in a bush a few weeks later 😆

ILikeDungs · 13/07/2025 16:34

Well I am no expert but they are extremely good secateurs, Swiss made, and so far I have not misplaced them under a bush.

Gribbit987 · 13/07/2025 16:35

A couple of pics. Garden is happy and the butterflies have arrived 😀

I'm kind of like @Gribbit987 when it comes to my garden tools...yes, I find them under bushes or in a pile of leaves, or even buried in the dirt. That being said, my Felcos have somehow escaped this fate...so, I suppose the Felcos are worth it because their cost has caused me to be more mindful of them when Im done for the day, so I consciously don't leave them out.IYSWIM. And, like @ILikeDungs I really enjoy using them and good garden tools make quite a difference...the handles are made so that they balance well in your hand... come to think of it, Ive never sharpened them.
@Gribbit987 Your flowers look so healthy! What kind of butterflies are those?
@BOD your green garden looks like a cool oasis

Ha ha! Look what I found, digging potatoes :)

Not mine!

Ha! A sharp tasting potato, prone to rust!

If by chance you meant the potato tops in the fuzzy background, those are very sad Nicolas. I planted three beds of them and the other two beds are green and thriving still, no rush to dig them up. I was warned not to plant in this spot but took a chance. It is very dry because it is slightly higher ground and there are thirsty sycamore nearby (and it has been a very hot and dry summer). The poor things didn't even flower as far as I know.

I did get some potatoes.

You will have Time Team round your place @ILikeDungs

@Sweetpea1532 they’re gatekeeper butterflies. Not the prettiest of my visitors but the most common.

The marguerites are from my late grandmother’s garden and very sentimental to me. I have 3 large clumps which are almost as tall as I am. It makes it very hard to photograph all the bugs they attract. I managed to get a picture with 5 butterflies (first pic) but there were so many more on them!

It was dug up in the allotment, and the second pair I have dug up this year.

And Time Team was a great Channel 4 series hosted by Tony Robinson. They dug up fields and indeed gardens looking for the past, but with a three? four?day deadline. Loved it.

Sweetpea1532 · 16/07/2025 18:22

That sounds like a lovely series @ILikeDungs .
I love it when gardens of our love one who have passed come back every year as a reminder of the joys of gardening that we shared.

Defiantly41 · 16/07/2025 23:33

I can’t remember what this is (the pink spiky one) but the bees love it! Between this, the buddelia and the verbena bonaresis, the pollinators are having a ball

I been hovering about posting on this thread and seeing your lovely pictures. Here’s one of mine:

Trip to the garden centre yesterday. Our tulip bulbs we planted didn’t germinate and went mouldy (bad batch). Yesterday DH I went to get a climber for the front door on the left as you go in. I thought passionflower he thought clematis and then we both saw the Mme Alfred Carriere and just fell it love with it and the scent (absolutely stunning!) and despite it being x6 the price we have budgeted for - we were like ‘we have to have it’ no real discussion 😍. Then 3 lavenders for the pot on the other side. It rained last night after planting it - it should grow over the front door and looks happy in its new place. I went out this morning and the scent was amazing it just smelt amazing.

Thanks for sharing @Lavenderandclimbingroses ! I love your birdie trellis, also🐦‍⬛

Lavenderandclimbingroses · 18/07/2025 22:11

@Sweetpea1532 thank you we are very happy with it. DH and I like a garden centre potter and nearly always agree. The birds soften it a bit as a trellis I think - we want to grow it up and over the door. It seems really happy in its new place.

DH has put up the large awning outside the back door to provide a bit of shade when needed. Black Friday deal and looks great and has good reviews. It is supposed to be waterproof but we won’t leave it up when it rains!

We had two quotes to remove the timber fence posts and put concrete ones and gravel boards in and fence panels in so we can make the large slope of a garden into two separate levels and we’ve accepted one recommended by a friend. He’s fully booked for 5 weeks but I’m looking forward to it and if he gets a cancellation he will do it quicker. The builders put a timber fence in - but it cracked and split within 6 months so I want to get a decent fence in sooner rather than later! And start converting the blank turf into a nice garden 🪴
