There is a gorgeous shrub/plant growing in my holiday home garden. I’d really love one in my own garden.
anyone know what it is?

Is it a type of buddleia?

Ifionlyknewthenwhatiknownow3 · 07/04/2023 21:27

It's a hebe.

pd339 · 07/04/2023 21:28

Hebe

You’re joking right?!

buckleten · 07/04/2023 21:32

That's a hebe, there are different colors and types youcan also get.

rainbowunicorn · 07/04/2023 21:36

It is hebe

Nope. Who the fuck are you? Monty Don?

Gustavo1 · 07/04/2023 21:45

Oh really?! I looked at photos of hebe but they said only 10-20cm tall. This is about 1m tall in a rockery.
I will definitely look at hebe.
thank you ☺️

There are many different types of them. I have one just like your picture x

Robin233 · 07/04/2023 22:08

Hebe. One down the street that size.

Heroicallyfound · 07/04/2023 22:32

Had to Google as it’s the kind of thing I want to add to my garden.

Hebe ‘garden beauty blue’ maybe?

Exhibity · 07/04/2023 22:36

Definitely a hebe , I lost one like this due to the snow 😩

KeziaOAP · 07/04/2023 22:42

Azalea "Blue Bird" coming into flower about now.

It’s got flowers in spikes, so not an Azalea. It’s a Hebe

There’s many varieties of hebe, from tiny plants to bushes 2m tall

Now I've put specs on and enlarged photo can see the spikes 😊

Takeitonthechin · 08/04/2023 23:42

It's a hebe

twolilacs · 09/04/2023 15:45

It is definitely a hebe OP, and there are dozens of varieties. Unfortunately most of them aren't particularly hardy in the UK.

samsmum2 · 07/04/2023 21:41

Nope. Who the fuck are you? Monty Don?

Thing is... you don't have to be Monty Don to know that it is 100% a hebe, and to anyone with an ounce of gardening experience, it is blindingly obvious and immediately recognisable.

Hebe xx

Gustavo1 · 09/04/2023 20:05

@twolilacs that’s a shame! Do you know of one that is? Or something similar? I try with my garden but I’m a bit of a no hoper to be honest!

It depends where you live and what sort of soil you have. A free draining situation protected from the deepest frosts and it should be ok.

I have two in pots either side of my front door and they came through winter very well. However, I'm in the South West, which is generally a little milder.

NeedingCoffee · 09/04/2023 20:22

You’re very lucky it’s survived this last winter. All but one of my hebes have died and two of them were about 10 years old 😭

The ones with smaller leaves do a bit better I think. Mind you, compare the cost of a garden shrub that lasts a few years with a big bunch of flowers that lasts a week, and shrubs are still good value for money.
