There is a gorgeous shrub/plant growing in my holiday home garden. I’d really love one in my own garden.
anyone know what it is?

Help me identify this

Is it a type of buddleia?

You’re going from the purple flowers in spikes? But the leaves are the wrong shape and colour and tge growth habit too crowded

samsmum2 · 09/04/2023 22:35

@blacksax
Thing is... you don't have to be Monty Don to know that it is 100% a hebe, and to anyone with an ounce of gardening experience, it is blindingly obvious and immediately recognisable.

Thing is - I never said I had an ounce of gardening experience. Hence the question mark after my (clearly ridiculously ignorant) suggestion. Sorry for being so dim. 🙄

curlywillow · 09/04/2023 22:38

So if you don’t have an ounce of gardening knowledge, why answer a question meant for those with gardening knowledge?

EvenHeathens · 09/04/2023 22:40

Wow this place is brutal!!

You’re very lucky it’s survived this last winter. All but one of my hebes have died and two of them were about 10 years old 😭

I've also lost lots over the winter. I have symmetrical beds planted up and all the ones planted in one of the bed have gone. The other bed is obviously slightly more protected and some have survived

littlekipling · 09/04/2023 22:52

It's a hebe I have this exact same one but capped it's size by keeping it in a pot. It's very nice OP.

How very dare you comment on something you clearly no nothing about 😂😂Wow, what’s it like looking down from the lofty heights of your high horse? Don’t fall off now….

Sundaefraise · 09/04/2023 23:36

Gosh I didn’t know a hebe could cause this much friction 😂. Where abouts are you in the country op? I’m in the midlands and my similar hebe with white spikes has survived quite happily in a south facing but fairly exposed bed.

It was you who started being snippy with people.

Anyway.

whatchagonnado · 10/04/2023 06:38

It's most definitely a hebe and will grow quite big, quite quickly.

Greentree1 · 10/04/2023 06:43

There are also parahebes that can look very similar. Lots of them too, from prostrate to tall.

No it wasn’t. It was @pd339 who responded to the original suggestion with a quite unnecessarily rude “you are joking, right?” and @samsmum2 responded to that. It wasn’t @samsmum2 who started being snippy.

This place is horrible at times, there's nowhere that I can see that states you're only allowed to answer if you know the exact answer Confused

Anyway op, have you seen those plant identification apps? We've recently moved and have inherited a beautiful garden - never had a pretty one before! Had a great time walking around with my app working out what everything is

JulieHoney · 10/04/2023 11:02

samsmum2 · 07/04/2023 21:41

Nope. Who the fuck are you? Monty Don?

😂😂😂

I mean, @pd339 has a point, it looks nothing like a buddleia and is obviouly a hebe - a very common shrub - but your reply really tickled me.

And no, I'm not Monty either, I'm Carol fucking Klein. 😉
