Could this be a sunflower?

It's been growing for ages as a spindly stalk, I al most pulled it up a couple of times as thought it was a weed.

All of a sudden it has a weird looking ( and slightly sinister!) bud appearing.

Could it be a late blooming sunflower, or something else?

It’s beautiful already

AnuSTart · 05/10/2022 21:59

Oh it's lovely!

@lljkk It's been pretty mild here recently ( London), but I get the feeling it bloomed far too late and really could do with a blast of hot sunshine!

It looks a bit anemic 🥲

It's been such a battler, it's October and it's managed to flower! It might be bowed but it's not broken, I hope it gets to raise its head.

Thank you op for keeping the thread updated.

If it was in my garden the squirrels would have fecked off with it by now.

Oh, beautiful! What an exciting thread. I now want loads of sunflowers in my garden next year.
Loads of stuff is growing in my garden still (yorks) quite mild so far 🤞

It might be a hybrid one?
I had several different variations of red sunflowers this year

@IcakethereforeIam I hear you! Bastard squirrels took the heads off all my sunflowers last year.. found one head on the top of the shed roof!

@RunningFromInsanity those are stunning 😍

I’ve not seen red ones before, how pretty.

Here the birds or squirrels eat seeds from the bird feeder and then x months later sunflowers spring up at random in the pots on the patio. When they’ve finished blooming, the heads are put out for the squirrels to eat. It’s very ‘Circle of life.’
