To continue into Spring 2022.

Unfortunately, I am not sure how many pictures I will be able to supply this year . Some builders are in building an extension for me .
I might have to live off all your lovely photos. Keep them coming!💐

They're lovely @FloBot7

notsogreenthumb · 14/03/2022 12:40

Such lovely pictures all, that iris is stunning @FloBot7. You're making me want to get one!

What crazy weather @Sweetpea1532. I hope your plants all survive.

I've just reseeded my grass as some areas are becoming clay like bare soil Sad and have added a camellia, a rhododendron, and a peony to the mix 🤪.

I have all my plants in pots so unfortunately lose a lot every year from becoming waterlogged. It's taken me this long to realise that's the issue. Hopefully this winter I'll place them in the greenhouse so they don't get oversoaked.

Does anyone have any tips for growing my new flowers in pots? I'm too scared to repot them Blush

AnneKipankitoo · 14/03/2022 18:03

I love the colour @FloBot7.

Make sure the pots have drainage holes , put a layer of broken pots in the base .

Glad I took that photo, DH accidentally beheaded the few in bloom when tugging on the cord for the lawnmower Sad
They're in a big pot about 45cm deep with a drainage hole and chunks of polystyrene rather than broken pots at the bottom (it's all I had at the time). I'm planning to direct sow some annual seeds for summer flowers. I'm not sure if that's a good idea or not. Does anyone know if it would be ok with cornflowers or stocks? It seemed like a logical plan at the time but now I'm wondering if the roots of the annuals will interfere with the dormant bulbs.

MrsBertBibby · 15/03/2022 13:28

No that should be fine! I have a bed with irises and tulips, and I plant it up for summer with annuals or direct sow annuals (particularly fond of Linum Bright eyes) and the iris pop up again each year. As do the tulips.

MrsBertBibby · 15/03/2022 13:36

The iris have all gone over, but you can see their long thin leaves among the tulips shoots. This bit was all snapdragons over the summer. I just put the young plants between the tulips as they died back, and then pulled them out in November.

I then put a load of chicken manure pellets on the surface, and mulched with garden compost, to ensure the bulbs had good nutrients leaching down to them for when they started to awake. Seems to have worked! (And very little weeding needed, hurrah!

Thanks @MrsBertBibby! That's a relief. I'm still trying to figure out how to get colour into the garden for more of the year while still enjoying cut flowers during summer.

notsogreenthumb · 15/03/2022 19:53

@AnneKipankitoo 😂
Yes, all those other awards ceremonies had to check our awards schedule before they planned their events

Sweetpea1532 · 18/03/2022 21:41

Meanwhile somewhere in southern US it has decided to flood a bit making Lake Sweetpea in my mum's front and back gardens
At least the flowers and plants survived the below-freezing temps last weekend.
