How are everyones tomatoes. Ours are all still very green. I am sure we normally have ripe ones by now.

My cordons are very green, still. I have two in a planter on the patio and the others are in the ground. I’ve never had such a poor crop. I’d normally be making pasta sauce by now. SE here, it’s been cold and wet.

If they are orange or yellow, you can pick them and put them in together (or with a banana) and they will ripen faster inside.

viques · 09/08/2021 17:43

Growing three varieties of small cherry tomatoes . One plant I have been picking a small amount off for a week or so, barely enough for two people. Second has got trusses just colouring up and the third has got trusses just forming. It has been a sad year, I don’t usually expect to be buying tomatoes this late in the season. They are not particularly sweet either, don’t know if this is the variety or lack of sun.

Mine are very green apart from two orange ones at the bottom of the plant ....they are a cherry type...all going to be orange I think

Paddingtonsmarmlade · 09/08/2021 17:46

I've just had the first ripe ones last week (Cornwall) very late

Bookaholic73 · 09/08/2021 17:47

I have loads of very green ones. Wondering when they should be going red, as this is my first year growing them.

Slub · 09/08/2021 17:49

Already had a couple of dozen off mine and still loads to ripen

I have two types of cherry tomato growing and have picked about 8 so far. Lots are beginning to ripen but majority still green.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 09/08/2021 17:50

I feel sure we had this same thread last year at the same time, and it reassured me. Once they started to turn I was inundated with ripe tomatoes until the end of September.

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 09/08/2021 17:52

Mine are all still green.

I didn't know about stripping leaves but, to be honest, one cordon is above the leaf line and very "in the light" but still green.

00100001 · 09/08/2021 17:56

Mine are just flowers atm....

Stanlie · 09/08/2021 18:04

Green here

Slub · 09/08/2021 18:07

Well it's been very warm and wet in my corner of Yorkshire so maybe that's why my toms are doing well outside 🤷‍♂️

Clusterfckintolerant · 09/08/2021 18:12

Cherry tomatoes ripening slowly. Plum and 2 beefsteak varieties still green, not a hint of turning.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 09/08/2021 18:22

DeepNorthFarmGardening

I wasn’t clear sorry. DM buys tomato seeds and germinates them, gives them to me when they are a bigger plant, in exchange for purple sprouting seedlings.

So the tomato seeds were all new seeds from a packet and germinated together. Mine have turned rogue in my care. So it’s something I’ve done. I’ll try to attach a picture

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 11/08/2021 19:22

coastergirl · 11/08/2021 19:29

I'm glad to see this thread. I've got loads and they're all green. I live in hope!

itsgettingwierd · 11/08/2021 19:30

We have a shared garden and my neighbours been growing tomatoes.

He commented yesterday how green they still are!

OneMoreForExtra · 11/08/2021 19:39

My lovely heritage varieties in the greenhouse all got blight last week while we were away on hols, came back too late to salvage anything Sad

Modern varieties in pots outside look OK - but all green

cheezy · 11/08/2021 19:40

Everything veg wise seems so slow this year.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 11/08/2021 19:43

Green tomatoes aplenty here , and one cordon blown over in the wind.

We’re suddenly in ripe blueberries though.

aerosocks · 11/08/2021 22:46

Removing leaves from around the trusses of tomatoes helps the light to get in and ripen them.

I ended up with piles of green tomatoes last year, which I ripened on our sunny kitchen windowsill, and I still have some greenish ones chopped up and in the freezer. This year I've not bothered growing any.

Imicola · 13/08/2021 06:46

Not sure what im doing right here, but I've had a couple of decent bowls full of ripe tomatoes so far, coming from both greenhouse and patio pot. Lots more will probably be ready today. In W Scotland. Perhaps i started them off earlier than usual.

Whydoiwearsomuchleopardprint · 13/08/2021 06:49

Green here too!
