How are they doing?
I wanted to show ( brag) you a photo of the first two blooms out on Eustacia Vye. She's gorgeous and smells utterly divine.
Hope the other pet roses you all have are equally successful!

@haba it has a very light scent so not the best choice if thats what you are looking for. And yes.. my son bought me two bare roots from DA this year for mothers day in March (lasts longer than a bunch he said). This is the growth they have put on since then! Im absolutely delighted with the growth and the amount of buds. I have them both in semi shade in a north west facing area of the garden in Scotland. Would highly recommend and based on pics on this thread it looks like a popular choice Grin

Here are mine: the white rose with delicate pink edging is a Leda and it has a beautiful scent; the orange rose is Wildfire - it's struggling a bit because it needs a bigger pot.

@ThreeKneeRepeater are you watering enough? I contacted DA about the Kew Gardens i posted in my pic as i was having to put in a pot and was concerned about aftercare. They advised to water twice a week with about 1 full watering can per rose. Said its better to give a huge drink once or twice a week to get water right to the roots rather than a light sprinkle every day.

Thank you @Eggnoggoanngoanngoann yours is absolutely beautiful, NW facing in Scotland? Perhaps it wouldn't like my sheltered S-facing courtyard in the Midlands then? I love its shape, and flower form though, so so pretty.
I was drooling over the rest of the David Austin website last night (to take my mind off the football!)
I just want them all!

pickingdaisies · 08/07/2021 14:32

Leda is so beautiful! Francis E Lester over an arch. Only blooms once but it still has buds and will have lovely rosehips. And the smell is incredible. It's quite vigorous though, so I'm having to learn as it grows! This is its third year. It did nothing in its first year but was stunning last year.

Ah, also Scarborough fair, a bit rain battered, and Comte de champagne.

ThreeKneeRepeater · 09/07/2021 11:34

Eggnogg I’m pretty sure it’s getting enough water. The leaves look healthy enough I think. There are no flowers or even buds though. Maybe I was expecting too much for a bare root rose planted in April?

JofraArchersFastestBall · 09/07/2021 12:13

Roald Dahl getting going now

@ThreeKneeRepeater April is quite late for a bare root rose so it might focus on getting its roots established and healthy growth this year and flowering next year. We planted one bare root in Jan and a couple in March and you can certainly tell the difference.

I have an enormous Jude the obscure climber but it's over now. I think it's quite early

It looks like this-

VenusClapTrap · 09/07/2021 12:21

Some newly planted roses wait two years before flowering.

ThreeKneeRepeater · 09/07/2021 12:25

Thanks JofraArchers.
I’m too impatient. I thought it would be swarming all over my pergola by now. It’s a bit like having a baby. Grin
Here it is today.

Received my replacement Mortimer Sackler today, it’s really lovely.

Bedsheets4knickers · 09/07/2021 12:27

@bloodywhitecat

I am planning to buy some later to plant up but in the meantime I will just keep admiring the ramblers round our old front door.
Beautiful
JofraArchersFastestBall · 09/07/2021 12:31

It looks like it's doing well @ThreeKneeRepeater I bet you'll get a couple of flowers this year and loads next year.

Whitney168 · 09/07/2021 12:31

@IndanthroneBlue

I love David Austin roses, here's mine Kew Gardens and Munstead Wood. They both smell amazing at the moment too. I feel like it's been a great year for roses, I keep nosying at them in people's gardens.
I have both of these. MW doing well this year, KG been a bit attacked by caterpillars but putting on loads of new growth now.

Munstead Wood is just the best rose, and I believe they are discontinuing it, so buy it now while you can folks! (Only available on pre-order for bare root, I think.) As soon as I walk out the door in to the garden, I get hit by its scent.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 09/07/2021 13:09

Yours looks a similar size to my Oh Wow (not DA) which was put in at the end of April. I do think that at that late stage they need to spend longer establishing their roots @ThreeKneeRepeater

BeaLola · 09/07/2021 20:50

I have a couple of photos but not sure how to upload - if I can work It out will post

We have G Gardener (my fave), LD Braithwaite (2bd choice) and then new for this year Summer Song

Also Falstaff & Crocus, Gertrude Jekyll, Strawberry Fayre, Golden Celebration, Graham Thomas, William Shakespeare and Tess of Durbeviles - We Like a deep red rose

Most were bought following RHS Chelsea visit /Hampton Court and for occasional birthday gifts - can't beat a rose especially a David Austin

LemonRoses · 09/07/2021 20:58

I can’t remember the name but it’s a rose for my mother, given by good friends when she died a few weeks back.

@VenusClapTrap

Lady Emma Hamilton is finally flowering. She has been a lot slower to get going than the others
That's an absolutely beautiful bloom! But what are the flowers in the background? They look gorgeous together!
VenusClapTrap · 10/07/2021 09:17

@BattineBlooms it’s mostly Nepeta (catmint) but there’s one bloom of Geranium Rozanne in there too.

89redballoons · 11/07/2021 15:14

I bought a Nostalgia, Emily Bronte and Benjamin Britten as bare roots from DA at the end of last year and planted in December. They all got really badly attacked by aphids and black spot in around May this year, the black spot I think because of the wet weather we had. Lots of the new growth and early buds shrivelled up Sad wasn't convinced any would bloom this year.

However! I pruned off the worst of the black spot, sprayed once with diluted washing up liquid, made sure to water them when it was dry, and also put some ladybird larvae on them to try and tackle the aphids. They're looking so much better! Here's the Nostalgia and the other two have promising looking buds on them too Smile

Late to this but I planted a few DA roses as bare roots in late March so I wasn't expecting much this summer. Loving the three Strawberry Hills I bought I am planning to train two up an arch and one on the side of the shed. And the yellow Roald Dahl is doing well too.

@weaselwords

Here’s “Roald Dahl” bought in April and “Poet’s Wife” bought last year.
I have Ronald Dahl too! It's lovely.

Just resurrecting this thread to update you on my Generous Gardener, planted as bare root stock in April. It wasn’t showing any signs of flowering, but you were all so encouraging.
Here it is today! I am so thrilled. It smells wonderful.
