@beautyisfoundwithin
You're the "Sweetpea Whisperer "
I am amazed at how large the blooms are...do all of them have fragrance?
My SP that planted themselves are doing brilliantly 😂 every year I've harvested the seeds and them tried to plant them the following year...they are stubborn little buggers..I've never gotten even one to grow where I've planted when...I even tried to emulate their natural popping out of the dried pods by just throwing them about....other than looking like a nut, I accomplished nothing...it's as if they are saying " humpf, SWEETPEA1532, we don't need any help from you, hun...we're doing just fine on our own..just cause you named yourself SP1532 doesn't mean you can get us to grow!" They remind me of a cat! I take photos of there latest chosen spots in a bit

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 11/07/2021 19:21

Wow @beautyisfoundwithin those colours Shock

Beautiful Dahlia @WobblyLondoner

Good luck in the football Smile and to think that this time last year, I hadn’t heard of Gareth Southgate 😂

Here’s my “Hyde Hall” rose

Wow, please excuse mistakes...yet againGrinHmm

Sweetpea1532 · 11/07/2021 20:50

@AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet and other ROSE aficionados...I'm an perplexed a bit by the jumble -jamble of most of the inner petals on your roses...maybe it is the particular varieties ya'll grow there...here in the US the rose petals are usually very sparse and orderly...like on the American Beauty...a red rose given for valentines day...although last year I did see my actual first jamble-jumble petal rose in my mum's garden that was new.. I think I posted a photo and said something about how I'd never seen a rose like that and maybe the corona virus had caused it to do thatGrin
I forgot about it until I saw your posted rose photos that looked the same

Sweetpea1532 · 11/07/2021 20:56

@beautyisfoundwithin
My errant sweetpeas...one under a big rock and the other in an old five gallon plant container..neither of which get watered and one gets no sunHmm

@WobblyLondoner
You urban garden really is an oasis tucked in amongst the city...what fun!
You've been busy, too with your pond, fountain and irises...that dahlia is so gorgeous Smile

@AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet...you mean I'm the last of the bunch who's never heard of Gareth Southgate? Is he a SOCCER player?Grin

Sweetpea1532 · 11/07/2021 21:10

Ok, SWEET just realised she's been a motormouth and is going to stop hogging the thread...off for a kipBear

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 11/07/2021 21:38

Not at all Sweetpea I love your chatty posts Smile Gareth Southgate is the English football (I say soccer too Wink ) manager, and they are playing in the European final against Italy right now. There was a poster on this thread last year called “GarethSouthGatesWaistCoat* and I remember having to google both him and his waistcoat 😂

Sweetpea1532 · 11/07/2021 22:35

@AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet
Whatever did we do without google!? Somehow our 25 year out of date World Book encyclopedia wasn't much help...when DC were small in the 90s..our WBE said that John F. Kennedy was president of the US Confused

AnneKipanki · 12/07/2021 09:32

They are special resistant ones @beautyisfoundwithin. A disease wiped them all out a couple of years ago and it is difficult getting supplies.
I do not have the wall trough because of the scaffolding.

Thanks @Sweetpea1532! It's not without effort and patience though, they were a large part of the jungle of seedlings in my house, I sow them in root trainers indoors till they're big enough to go outside. About 80% of them have fragrance, the biggest ones don't. You did make me laugh with your description of trying to recreate their natural life cycle 😂 I still can't believe how they keep popping up in the most unlikely locations in your garden, and thriving!

Beautiful rose (as always!) @AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet.

Today I'm sharing a little upcycled creation, pleased with how it's looking at the moment. I think I mentioned it on the thread last year but never got around to posting photos. Planter/storage made out of a pallet 🔨

@beautyisfoundwithin
Ha,
You should have seen me serendipitously tossing the seeds around the neighbourhood...., good thing not a single one grew..I might have caused a sweetpea infestation in my villageGrin
Isn't that strange though, how they just don't NEED my help!ShockHmmWink

I love this thread! I always disappear and come back to such bloomin beauty (pun intended ).

@beautyisfoundwithin are you my soul twin? I've also got pallets that are being upcycled like that, yellow courgettes at the same stage in life and a thousand failed sweet pea seeds .. well that's all for now (minus the fact your garden seems to be flourishing and mine is rather basic).

@Sweetpea1532 I grew sweet peas this year, I had no idea they grow so tall so stuck them in a pot in the kitchen window and then neglected them for the first few months. Finally I planted them into the ground without any support and they dried right up during our heatwave in early June. Bright yellow stems . Well the other day I went to prune my tomato plant and somehow a couple survived and have regrown against the plant. I managed two flowers (from a million seeds 😂).

My dahlias are looking like they'll bloom soon and I cannot wait. Lilies too!

This time last year I had a garden that had been a junkyard (literally) for the last 30 years. The weeds were 8 foot tall in places and cars/car parts strewn within the tall grass. We managed to clear it all, dig up so so SO many sycamore seedlings/mini trees (which we'd thought were huge weeds), gigantic nettles and levelled the ground and placed compost/top soil etc. We were just about to lay the turf and had major doubts whether it would root.

This time this year I just added a hammock and some hostas to the shaded part of the garden, some synthetic ivy to some old trellises and some fairy lights. I had no idea the transformation would be so dramatic or I would have vlogged it. In our small space we now have a vegetable plot, a table/swing area, some lawn, and troughs dotted around. Even a cheeky coffee corner to feel like I'm at an allotment Blush

@Sweetpea1532 how're the onions? And is that a bees nest? I will be sorely embarrassed if I'm wrong 😂.

Attached is the trellis we rescued from the old garden and upcycled to block out the view of our landlords machinery etc, as well as some cucumber flowers.

Sorry for all the rambling! At this rate I'm better off being a rose Grin

Whoops I hadn't realised @Sweetpea1532 mentioned tossing the seeds! I just realised you're a sweetpea maestro @beautyisfoundwithin. Perhaps we differ vastly there 😂😂. Your sweet pea pictures are swoonworthy.

Beautiful dahlia @WobblyLondoner. Love the colour!

And such pretty foxgloves @bettyfloormop. Once we buy a property, foxgloves and lupins are a must!

Lovely rose @AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet

And of course @AnneKipanki your pots and troughs are lovely. Everything looks so healthy. Wish I could say the same about mine Grin

Sweetpea1532 · 13/07/2021 02:15

@notsogreenthumbFlowers

Boy! You've been ultra busy getting your garden into shape...I think I'll award you "The Most Improved Gardener -Space Improver of the Year" award!🏆🏅🏅🏆🥇..you've worked so hard...and look at your vegetables...you must have attended the same gardening school at @beautyisfoundwithin

Nope, not a bees nest, but flaps it's wings like a bee..
Thank you for checking on my onions...they are large golfball sized now...I had to remove the mounds as the moisture from the soil was causing them to get mushy and rotten.

AnneKipanki · 13/07/2021 07:20

Thanks @notsogreenthumb. I saw your pallet and had one but we did not do anything with it .
Your garden is transformed.
@Sweetpea1532, I couldn’t see it .☹️

@AnneKipanki
It's a little nest of a hummingbird sans eggs....she did an excellent job of hiding it...I had to get a ladder to reach it and then stick my phone through the leaves to try and get photos...I felt like Sir David Attenborough Grin
She used some of the pampas grass plumes to line the nest to make it extra soft. It's so tiny...not much bigger than a wine bottle cork.
