Thanks @annekipanki. The one in the right I think is sticking out of a low purple leaved thing

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 03/08/2020 19:46

Could be a heuchera? mine are just starting to flower....

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 03/08/2020 19:49

Definitely heuchera - fab pic of it!

Pics of my messy border looking pleasingly (to me) colourful, and a mass of pure white phlox Halo

I like Heuchera, not so much the patterned leaves but the striking colours. I thought they looked great in spring, as bright as any flower but looking good now too.

@Elladisenchanted

Hi everyone! I've got 3 more flowers blooming and no idea what they are . Thanks whoever gave me the tip about deadheading the evening primrose. The bees absolutely love the tall thin purple ones. There's always 3 or 4 buzzing about. Anyone know what this lot are?
The pink one with the round petals and big buds is Japanese anemone. I was just about to see if I had a photo of my own to post.
PickAChew · 03/08/2020 20:06

My Japanese anenome are planted with these crocosmia. They get neglected a bit because they're right at the front of our drive.

We also have a little mound of heuchera but the rest of that patch is bare, at the moment while we debate what to do about the ugly fence behind

Ooh, the heuchera with the stripey (petunias?) and pansies is such a nice composition @ditavonteesed Smile

Oldraver · 04/08/2020 08:08

@Elladisenchanted I think it was me who mentioned the Evening Primrose

It should keep flowering for quite a while but when I see it coming to and end I start to leave the seed pods

I think they self seed and when the plants start to grow on spring it is way to mistake for a weed

But the seed pods are massive and amazing when left

Oldraver · 04/08/2020 08:10

Lovely crocosmia

Morning all, I’ve been a bit absent thanks to real life getting in the way of my furloughed gardening Grin. I’d almost forgotten I actually have a job.

My first zinnia bloom appeared yesterday, and my vanilla French marigolds are thriving.

BUT I need your help with my sweet peas! They have been ravaged by pesky aphids I think, and because I’m more green than green fingered I didn’t realise for a while.
I’ve been spraying with soapy water, and trimmed off the small yellow droopy bugs to try and stimulate more growth. Is there anything else I can do to help them?

Not mine but visited Holland Park yesterday. Beautiful roses in bloom at the rose garden.

Thursday, I think that's all you can do, unless you want to use a more chemical insect-killer (BugClear or RoseClear, I think?), but those can kill bees, ladybirds etc too. I find the soapy water does clear the aphids for a good week or so.

Are you giving the sweet peas liquid feed? Maybe some Tomorite or whatever to stimulate flower production?

DDemelza · 04/08/2020 11:18

Cornflowers, and our fiery crocosmia/salvia bed (with the neighbour's lovingly nurtured bindweed growing behind itGrin).

I love cornflowers. They remind me of those coconut marshmallow biscuits that I considered a real treat as a child!

popgoesperfection · 04/08/2020 14:37

Wow so many beautiful pictures , have only not been on for a couple of days and have loads of lovely pics to catch up on.
Some gerbera daisy awaiting planting into one of the borders.

Elladisenchanted · 04/08/2020 15:40

Thank you all! It's definitely heuchera!

WobblyLondoner · 04/08/2020 16:24

Star of the show in my garden at the moment is this Eucomis. I think I had about 5 bulbs to start with which have bulked up over the years to fill two pots. It has self seeded very charmingly in paving cracks too so I'm trying to grow some of them on.

Is it just me or has it been an amazing year for hollyhocks? They struggle in my garden but was in Norfolk last week and they were stunning.

mosscarpet · 04/08/2020 16:38

Hello all, can I join you? There are so many gorgeous pics on this thread. I have been getting back into my gardening this year after a mega busy couple of years where it was a bit neglected!
A few pics for your enjoyment. I love my garden (although so much still needs doing to it!)
