Your favourite garden job

Yesterday evening I spent a disproportionate amount of time squishing asparagus beetle larvae (small slug like things with caterpillar legs) which felt very cathartic - I even brought a glass of wine down the garden with me.

What are your favourite garden jobs?

OP posts:

Planting out brand new little fabulous plants.
Putting the hose on and watering everything.
Picking the very few ripe figs my tree deigns to bless me with!

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 12/07/2019 12:40

Watering
Deadheading - see pictures thread Grin
Mowing the lawn on my ride on mower
Planting new flowers, but only in a neatly prepared bed I dislike preparing beds

Admiring everything & looking for changes and new blooms, with a glass of wine in my hand also Grin
Although, that's not really a job 😂

@AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet That sounds like me, admiring with a drink in my hand!!!

PolarBearOnARaft · 12/07/2019 13:07

Lying on the bench listening to the bees. That may not be an actual job but its lovely.

happyhillock · 12/07/2019 13:14

I do the garden because i have to, nothing about it i enjoy apart from sitting on the lounger with a glass of V@T

Tensixtysix · 12/07/2019 13:18

My favorite thing to do is weed the garden. Start with a wild looking area, brambles everywhere, impenetrable forest of it.
And then ending up with a nice usable area and having a bonfire.

Planting out vegetables and earthing up potatoes.

I like gardening so much, I do it for other people and get paid Grin

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 12/07/2019 13:20

I love wandering around deadheading, pruning and getting that stubborn weed out.

I love early spring when it is time to get the power tools out to do the larger bushes and things like buddleia.

Siameasy · 12/07/2019 13:56

Weeding
Rummaging
Dead heading
Checking to see if something has flowered
Turning the soil over

Beebumble2 · 12/07/2019 21:18

Deadheading, pruning, sitting and enjoying.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 12/07/2019 21:25

Weeding. I only have a small garden and it needs weeding less often than I'd like.

Smelling it. Especially after rain.

I don't particularly like mowing.

EssentialHummus · 12/07/2019 21:29

Probably deadheading. And I whinge about weeding but actually when I’m out there doing it I get quite into it. Mainly I’m in it for compliments from my friends though Grin.

Knittedfairies · 12/07/2019 21:30

The planning, for next year.

TheSpottedZebra · 12/07/2019 21:36

I love hacking a really overgrown plant back.
Which is odd, as in the rest of my life, I'm really not at all destructive.

sackrifice · 12/07/2019 21:37

Chopping stuff down, and then chopping it up for the compost.

GrouchyKiwi · 12/07/2019 21:38

Can all you crazies who like weeding please come and do my garden? Grin

I like watering on those rare occasions I actually have to do it, and deadheading is very cathartic. Probably something to do with the name.

StephenQueenBooks · 12/07/2019 21:42

Harvesting! 🍒🍓🌶️🌽🥕🍅

MereDintofPandiculation · 12/07/2019 22:52

weeding, especially the gravel areas where all sorts of interesting seedlings appear, and the strawberry beds which some years are full of frogs. Weeding allows you to have really close look at what is happening in the garden.

NotMaryWhitehouse · 13/07/2019 07:31

Weeding and potting on seedlings and cuttings. I love making new plants!

IStillMissBlockbuster · 13/07/2019 07:44

Relaxing on garden furniture with some "wailing woman" music as DH calls it. It's actually like London Grammar and the like. Philistine.

IStillMissBlockbuster · 13/07/2019 07:48

I have enjoyed growing plants from seed which I have done for the first time this year. I did it straight to soil and got loads of Flax and Cosmos. The forget-me-nots never showed though which was sad.

Siameasy · 13/07/2019 07:48

I really want to !!!
You’ll hate me but we don’t have many weeds and some of them are inoffensive so I leave them. Bindweed is getting to be annoying but manageable
Where we live is ex-farmland. I suspect they did something to suppress the weeds.

ExpletiveDelighted · 13/07/2019 07:52

Weeding and pottering in the greenhouse, sowing seeds and potting on. Also harvesting fruit and veg and picking flowers.

I don't like planting out and find watering really boring.

EleanorReally · 13/07/2019 07:54

Pruning, so satisfying, although I would never make a hairdresser

6utter6ean · 13/07/2019 07:58

Weeding.

IstillmissBlockbuster I'll swop you my forget-me-nots for your Cosmos! I have loads of the stuff, which is lovely, but it does tend to take over the garden! Whenever I've tried to grow cosmos the damned slugs have had them.

IStillMissBlockbuster · 13/07/2019 09:55

6utter6ean that would be great! I'd love for a forget-me-not take over. Though slugs have destroyed some cosmos, it seems that they can't access most. Have you tried bark? Not the canine variety...
