Yesterday evening I spent a disproportionate amount of time squishing asparagus beetle larvae (small slug like things with caterpillar legs) which felt very cathartic - I even brought a glass of wine down the garden with me.

What are your favourite garden jobs?

I like clearing down in late autumn and early spring time, when the soil isn’t too wet but very workable (heavy clay!)

I like gardening in the rain - fewer wasps to scare me 😂 mainly weeding in that type of weather

I’m training myself to stop buying loads of random plants and now appreciate more how things go together.

I like sowing seeds although I’m Hmm because I bought a load of poppy seeds of different varieties. Everywhere I’ve sown them, only nigella has sprouted!!!!! This was from reputable suppliers.

My cosmos has self seeded from last years plants which is exciting. They look much healthier this year.

I’ve also discovered the joy of division to get free plants. As a result I’ve got some nice low growing geraniums and some crocosmia flowering. And some bunny’s tail grass as well. It’s very satisfying.

Digging up dandelions from the lawn!

Don't know why but I find it hugely satisfying digging up a few each morning.... may be as its the only thing Im confident doing as a new gardener!

Yy the planning
Sowing seeds, labelling up

I find weeding, planting out and harvesting a bit dull tbh.

Deadheading, pruning and lawn mowing ok.

I love hacking a really overgrown plant back.
Which is odd, as in the rest of my life, I'm really not at all destructive.

I like a good session of 'mindful destruction'Grin. DH got me a brilliant pair of extendable loppers for my birthday this year. If you don't get enough of this in your own garden then volunteer on a local nature reserve - not exactly 'gardening' but balsam bashing with a tool reminiscent of a cutlass is most therapeutic.

Wandering around the garden on a summers evening smelling the flowers, deadheading, maybe pulling the odd weed and watering is bliss.Smile
