@Autumnchill They are lovely aren't they. Yours looks established. Mine's brand new.

Does anyone know if you plant a new rose (St Ethelburga - container grown) just in normal potting compost and not manure etc, will it survive? Also should i feed it with special rose food? Never grown a rose before. I normally just plant everything using potting compost and leave other than watering it

luckygreeneyes · 09/07/2019 12:47

Can only upload 3 at a time 🙈

@Killybashangel I plant roses using a general compost, and feed using a special Rose feed in the spring.
Prune in March

I'm not sure if that's correct or not, but my roses always thrive, and some most years, I don't feed them at all Blush

I just plant any plant, roses included (I have 9!) straight into the soil in the garden...

Sometimes I chuck a bit of compost around as a mulch and occasionally I might sprinkle a bit of fish, blood and bone about in the spring.

But generally speaking, no special composts and no fertiliser here.

It's pretty rare that something I plant dies, if it does I just don't grow it again!

My morning glories. At last! I started them around Feb/March I think. Just waiting for Heavenly Blue to flower-this is Ipomoea Purpurea

It's very gloomy here today so these are a cheerful reminder of Sunday. The rose was here when we came 26 years ago (eek) and gets an annual severe pruning then plentifully 'fed' with dirty bird bath water. The nasturtiums are beginning to take effect in this corner behind the shed, and I was evidently a bit too liberal shaking the rose campion seedheads last year as they've gone mad and taken over this part of the border. Pretty though.

I hope people keep posting here as I can't get enough of other people's gardens. At least the cultivated ones - our Ndn specialises in bindweed and ground elder.

Is that some lychnis in your border @campion?

AnneKipanki · 09/07/2019 16:15

A garden view with borrowed landscape.

AnneKipanki yes, lychnis coronaria (rose campion).
Is that your garden? Lovely either way.
I'm getting serious house as well as garden envy looking at these pics!

AnneKipanki · 09/07/2019 17:35

Yes.
The barbecue house belongs to our neighbour.

AnneKipanki · 09/07/2019 17:38

Needs work though!

Siameasy · 09/07/2019 18:27

our Ndn specialises in bindweed and ground elder

Had to laugh at this. We seem to be specialising in bindweed. To the point where my daughter sees it in the street and shouts “blooming bindweed!” at it

Siameasy · 09/07/2019 18:29

I do love your nasturtiums campion
I ended up with all leaves and cabbage white caterpillars last year so no more for me

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 09/07/2019 18:30

A barbecue house 😳😳😳

It's probably a good thing, that I don't know what that is

Cabbage whites were a nightmare last year. Maybe the weather as I haven't seen one so far #temptsfate.
