It workedGrin. That is a photo of freesia and anemones picked this afternoon.

@AnneKipanki boysenberry is my favourite flavour - we consume far too much of it as well as too much NZ wine Wine.

FiveShelties · 19/09/2019 10:15

I am now going to try and post photos of the new bed

First attempt at a prairie-style border still going strong and full of assorted flying things....

Beautiful flowers & colours @Fucksandflowers I was looking at that purple Aster at a garden centre yesterday. It's so pretty, I regret not buying it now, of course 🤦‍♀️

I bought this hellebore for autumn & winter colour 😊

Looks amazing @FiveShelties
And yes, I too love a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. I alternate weekly between NZ and french SB Blush

Soooo pretty @everywhichway
I'm sad that my echinaceas are fading 😥😭

@ FiveShelties I love that patio, what is it made from? I had a dark one laid last year but i think it needs sealing.

AnneKipanki · 19/09/2019 16:17

Nice hellebore Always .
Lovely border every .

AnneKipanki · 19/09/2019 16:48

I've never tasted the ice cream but my husband has . I have tasted NZ wine though Grin Wine

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 19/09/2019 20:13

One of my enormous red roses today, and hungry Henry, last night Smile

@userxx I recognise your username from the hedgehog thread on chat I so need to get a life
Now that I'm posting him (or her, in which case - 'Henrietta') in the gardening forum, I'm quite ashamed of my long grass and non edgy (un edgy)? edges Grin

Henry (ETTA ) needs to fatten up for winter .
I love roses . It is so hard getting a decent picture of anything red.

didireallysaythat · 19/09/2019 22:18

How does everyone have such green lawns still? Do you water then? Mine is still brown - no rain for months.....

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 20/09/2019 09:58

Very pretty @Charley50

There's probably a way to adjust the camera for red, but I'm not very camera or tech savvy Confused

@didireallysaythat It rained here literally every day throughout August (Ireland) Hence our green grass.
But also, I mow the lawn on the highest setting. Too short and the sun will scorch it

My ice cream tulip bulbs arrived this morning Smile

@AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet

We haven't mown the lawn since July. The compost heap looks pathetic!

FiveShelties · 20/09/2019 11:37

@userxx it is just plain concrete - dark grey tint I think. It has been sealed. Are you in NZ?

FiveShelties · 20/09/2019 11:40

@AnneKipanki we have about 30 wineries within 20kms of here - so much wine - so little wineGrin We are doing our best to ensure that NZ does not have a wine lake. Is your husband from NZ?

FiveShelties · 20/09/2019 11:49

Those bulbs look lovely and the hedgehog look really well fedGrin

@AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet Your garden is beautiful, no need to do anything to it. I've been admiring your hydrangeas, mine came out early this year and flopped over mid june!! I'd allowed it to get far too big.

Told you the hog would take over your life :-) Henry clearly likes his food, bless him. I had one massive one a few years ago who would sit near the back door at 8pm if the food wasnt out!! Clearly didnt approve of my time keeping :-)

userxx · 20/09/2019 12:20

@FiveShelties I wish I was!! I think I need to get mine sealed, will look into it. I'm in the north of England and it rains..... alot. I've only had it down a yaer and its looking a bit shabby already. I love yours, it looks fab.

FiveShelties · 20/09/2019 12:28

Thank you userxx - I am originally from Lancashire so used to the rain! I am back for a month in October so hoping for a lovely Autumn.

AnneKipanki · 20/09/2019 12:48

No@Fiveshelties , he is not . He went for a cycling tour with a friend and was told he must have it by a workmate from NZ. By co-incidence he bought it from the shop near her Dad's farm . I admire your effort in wine lake prevention . Enjoy your trip home.

What is the first flower @Charley50 ?

@didireallysaythat , my lawn is mainly moss and weeds .

@AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet , I hope they come up beautifully in spring .

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 21/09/2019 10:10

@userxx You were right about Henry - he is so consistent with his visiting time and I know exactly when to expect him. And yes, he has become part of my nightly routine Smile
It was stormy here last night, so he didn't visit Sad But I'm glad that he was sensible enough to stay safe

Re the hydrangea, they only look like that because they were recently bought & planted 🙈 I just hope that they will come back exactly like that next year.
They are called 'Mophead hydrangea' and are so, so beautiful. I think I will probably get a gardener to come just once and advise me on how to care for everything properly, probably in the spring.

Here is a picture of my bellflowers coming back into bloom, just to keep our thread on topic Smile
