We've got a garden going to Chelsea.... (maybe)

I'm in our local horticultural society, it's one of London's oldest. It's full of grannies.

I suggested we put forward a small Courtyard Garden for Chelsea... and we've had loads of meetings, and talked about designs and themes etc. etc. etc. for months...

Anyway, I had a pile of meetings last week looking for money, and got the go-ahead from a major sponsor !!!!!!!!!!!!

Our application needs to be in next week, and we'll know in November if we've been accepted. Yikes.

We staged an initial mockup of the design in a car park yesterday, LOL. Looks good.

Move over, Mr. Titchmarsh, Mr. hub2dee needs the microphone.

Sounds fab - will have to come and see it!

hub2dee · 30/09/2005 09:23

... fingers crossed we get in first !

Sadly, Chelsea has a strict no babes in arms / pushchairs policy. ... Will try and sneak Camille in on Press Day but not even sure about that.

That's fantastic! Well done hub

suedonim · 30/09/2005 16:05

Wonderful!! We want lots of photos of every stage, don't forget!

greenbean · 30/09/2005 20:09

well done hub. it'll be hard work but def worth it.

hub2dee · 01/10/2005 11:40

I hope the design is good enough to get in.....

And then I'll have to hope we've got the planting list spot on....

And then we'll have to pray the flowers grow nicely....

... and that the lads turn up to build it...

etc. etc. etc.

Thanks for the well wishes.

When we get a yes / no from the Chelsea Panel, I'll post the name / theme of the garden and you can all come up with mad ideas for publicity / celebs who might support it / sources of further sponsorship etc. And if you do visit Chelsea, be sure to say hi and ask a tricky question, LOL.

ooh - sounds fabby!

Snotty w*nkers though - no pushchairs?!

katymac · 02/10/2005 19:27

How exciting

gingerbear · 07/10/2005 22:54

I can see a gold medal and a spot on BBC2 with Rachel de Thame heading your way.

hub2dee · 07/10/2005 22:55

Don't think BBC2 would air my 'conversation' with Rachel. It might just make very late night Channel 4.

You are a norty hub, she is a happily married lady you know. She is the Nigella of horticulture though methinks.

hub2dee · 07/10/2005 23:01

Was only going to talk about the mating habits of those club mosses you like.

(he doesn't half get about, hub de lurker).

Nigella was nicer before that horrid show.

In the local M&S a cashier used to always make a big fuss over dw at the till cos she thought she looked like Nigella. Would make all the customers think she was famous, LOL.

Your Mrs looks like Nigella? Lucky, lucky you!!! She is my DH's ultimate yummy mummy (with the exception of me, of course)

JonahB · 08/10/2005 09:13

Oh, and i'll definitely be watching this thread to see your chelsea progress. Best of luck - how exciting!!

I can't believe Chelsea wont let pushchairs in! Are they allowed to do that? (well, i guess they are, by the fact that's a ruling). How discriminative!

hub2dee · 08/10/2005 09:21

In the right light and with her hair a little rustled, and her tummy sucked in, yeah a bit. I have some much better photos of her looking Nigella-like, but there's a few shots here which give a hint of her cooking prowess.

Hahaha re club mosses. Glad you noticed my subtle wit there. I think your wife is stunning, esp. with red lippy on. I would look like a vampire in red lippy. (Coco Channel always said, if in doubt wear red - not if you are a ginge Coco.)

you really wouldn't want pushchairs at chelsea. it is a real scrum, not a place for children!

highlander · 30/10/2005 12:49

oh no, not the shoebox link again.......... I could only watch it once (through tears)

hub2dee · 30/10/2005 13:36

Awww, highlander, there is only joy on the new album ('9-16 weeks') ITH. The thread is here .

We should know at some point in November whether we've got the garden or not. Apparently as we've got sponsorship lined up, it is likely we will get awarded a plot. GULP.

hub2dee · 30/10/2005 14:14
