Ooh a thread for recipes is a great idea, DS is absolutely hopeless on any domestic skills so this summer is definitely going to be a sharp learning curve for him!

Desperatelyseekinglazysusan · 09/06/2026 16:25

dhal sounds like a great idea. Nice and healthy and relatively easy to make :). Maybe we should start a new thread with preparing for Uni recipes.

Also cheap as chips ( cheaper!) with some rice.

HighburyHope · 09/06/2026 18:18

DD is the best cook in our family - she’s been cooking family dinner every evening while on study leave, as she finds it a good stress-buster. It’s one of the many reasons we will miss her. Someone gave her one of the Rukhmini Iyer “Roasting Tin” cookbooks for about her 10th birthday and she’s never looked back, though much more adventurous now. Those books are a good concept for students too, I think - at least there’s limited washing-up needed!

MiniMidiMaxi · 09/06/2026 18:39

Expanding DS’s cooking repertoire is definitely on our summer list too. We did get Gousto boxes for a while and I picked up a few options that were in their ‘quick and easy’ range that were good, thinking ahead to uni, so need to dig those recipe cards out.

Katymaus · 09/06/2026 18:43

@Fabfabfab A thread with recipes is a great idea!
And I hope you feel better soon - summer colds always seem very wrong.

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn DD doesn't do Chemistry herself, but has just mentioned that her close friends who do it all said the exam was tough today, so your DS is not alone and hopefully that will mean the grade boundaries will be lowered.

@HighburyHope the roasting tin cook book is a great idea - maybe the recipes thread could include book / online recommendations too!

ArchitectureMum · 09/06/2026 18:57

Recipes for uni sound sensible. Find it hard to believe DD will be fending for herself so soon.

Half way through the exams now. RS Philosophy went ok on the whole. Got a bit short of time at the end so it could have been better but she can’t complain. Time to get ready for mechanics on Thursday.

Ventress · 09/06/2026 21:39

I’m glad R/S and philosophy went okay @ArchitectureMum. Mechanics sounds very interesting too.

I think you should start this new recipe thread @HighburyHopeas you and your daughter have lots of ideas and are very good at cooking 🙂

Gosh, @MiniMidiMaxiyou are super organised!

I agree @JustHereWithMyPopcorn. It will be a sharp learning curve for DS too!

bluefineliner · 10/06/2026 06:34

Morning 😁

Chem paper 2 (AQA) yesterday was 'hard but ok' according to DD which is a relief, others found it hard too. DD did her usual with an immediate response of it was ok/good, to then seeing social media posts and deciding with hindsight maybe she'd got more wrong than she thought 🙄. Experience from GCSEs tells us she underestimates so I'm going on that theory for the next few weeks until results day!

DD can only cook very basic things, as can I tbh but she can survive on pasta for the coming years. One of my lasting memories of DD1 at uni was her phoning to ask how to cook her salmon fillets 😂, she assured me they were yellow ticket ones!

6 down, 3 to go, we are getting there, full on bio revision today and tomorrow now.

BlackBean2023 · 10/06/2026 07:02

Business paper 3 didn’t go great for DD. She won’t talk about whether she thinks she’s done enough to meet her offer so I’ll just be second guessing everything for the next 74 days…!

History tomorrow and Sociology on Friday - limping to the finish line now!

hels71 · 10/06/2026 07:27

Textiles paper 2 today. Then maths 2 tomorrow. DD seems reasonably calm, so fingers crossed!!!

Muchtoomuchtodo · 10/06/2026 07:35

Good luck to everyone taking exams today.

I’m sure the tough ones yesterday didn’t go as badly as they think. These yp of our can be incredibly hard on themselves.

Keep on going! The end is in sight for everyone now xx

AuntyBulgaria · 10/06/2026 08:02

I think the finish line is starting to come into focus. My DS finishes on the 19th. Any poor souls go into the following week? I think there may be some modules for FM that are on 22nd (luckily not one my DS has to do).

Maths tomorrow - for which no revision is being done (apparently not necessary!).

Ventress · 10/06/2026 08:04

Good luck to everyone taking exams today! You got this 🤩👍

@hels71good luck for textiles today and maths tomorrow.

i’m sorry to hear that @BlackBean2023about business ,but I’m sure that she feels she will meet her offer! Did you get your DDs accommodation sorted?

Good luck with history 3 today and sociology tomorrow 🤞DS can survive on pasta I’m sure but it would move to get some variety in there somewhere! Oh wow, salmon fillets, I like dd1’s style!

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 10/06/2026 08:48

Good luck to anyone with exams today, hope they are nice ones!

Maths revision will be happening here but not huge amounts, DS is definitely tired of it now!

Anyone else's hayfever properly kicked in now? Mine is awful since yesterday. 😥

Exeter don’t confirm until offer day - she’ll get accommodation as she firmed but it might not be on campus. Another stress!

Ventress · 10/06/2026 10:40

DS has had hay fever for the last few weeks @JustHereWithMyPopcornI hope your hay fever isn’t too bad 😂

I’m pleased you have firmed @BlackBean2023 and sorted at that at least. They all seem to do things differently don’t they?!

Hope the exams are going well 🤞

Ventress · 10/06/2026 10:47

I’m sorry, my typing is awful 😂 honestly I’m not totally illiterate!

Onthesofawithmydog · 10/06/2026 12:06

All done! Dd had english lit this morning which went ‘pretty well I think’. And thats a wrap. Now for the long old wait till results day and keeping everything crossed. Huge sigh of relief!!!! Hope everyone else who had last exams today felt it went ok :)

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 10/06/2026 15:10

Time to celebrate @Onthesofawithmydog 🍾🎉🙌

MiniMidiMaxi · 10/06/2026 17:28

Must be a big relief to be finished! DS has 4 to go still, all Maths & FM papers - last exam on the 18th. Then we go on holiday a week later - haven’t really thought about it yet, need to start a list!

Onthesofawithmydog · 10/06/2026 17:32

It is a huge relief but I also have youngest doing GCSEs so not quite done yet… I am at the stage of having a glass of wine every night with dinner… so when that happens you know the stress is high! 😂

Muchtoomuchtodo · 10/06/2026 17:48

Well done to everyone who’s finished! What a great effort they’ve all put in.

2 more for DS - maths and further maths!

Prom next week before he heads off on his first lads holiday 😬

Hats off to those of you with dc going GCSEs and A levels simultaneously. keep
the 🍷 going! We narrowly avoided that when dc1 secured their apprenticeship!

HighburyHope · 10/06/2026 17:57

Still a week to go here - but I’ve booked our table at a lovely restaurant for end-of-exams celebrations on the 17th. DD says she wants to celebrate with us on the night, as she’ll see her friends at Prom. Fine by me! Wine

I haven't been gladder of my 3 year age gap since I did the Mat leave/ nursery combo 15 years ago?

That would be of less use to us here in Wales!

They take some GCSEs in year 10, the majority in year 11, AS levels in year 12 and A levels in year 13!
