BTEC/T level/other vocational 25/26 - part 2

New thread for those of us with DC doing vocational courses (and for those with DC looking for an alternative to A levels next year and looking for advice).

My DC is currently doing a level 3 extended diploma. He struggled academically at school and was pretty miserable in year 11. With a lot of hard work he got the grades needed for the level 3 BTEC and is now thriving at college.

Morning everyone! Just a quickie but just wanted to say that for anyone who is having a tough time with DC and/ or exams, if you can escape yourself for a day, or two, it will be beyond miraculous for you mentally! I’m in Cornwall with my friend. Yesterday we swam in open air 🏊 by the sea and had a sauna, and last night saw favourite singer in super cool location….

It has been AMAZING to switch off for one day, and leave revision to DH! The horrors of last years GCSE’s was back with a vengeance… DS had mentioned “ Oh, well, I can re-take my re-take next year if I need to. No biggie”.. and add my lovely Mum into the BTEC/RESIT hell, and…….🤯😹!!

Anyhoo!!!! I hope everyone has a sunny, or lovely!, Sunday!! ☀️😻

Now, seriously, WTH are those glasses needed for?! All I see is, perving- and, now, cheating!!! 🙀🙀🙀🙀😹!!!

Dd has only got til next friday to hand her pieces in...she's going in tomorrow so she'll be shattered
Older dd has a drs appointment for a skin thing and I've had to fight to get her the appointment 😤 I'm very envious of those who have choice of primary care drs
Funeral on thursday
We haven't heard anything yet re: Holiday flights at half term so we assuming its still on!

Hey all!
Exam week here, DS has been doing practice papers and I'm hoping that's enough. He also made revision cards (not sure if he looked at them, but he's definitely made some!).
He's sketchy about what is happening after half term, he thinks attendance will be optional. I was ready for a longish summer from the end of June, but not from the end of May!
Thankfully he's planning to sign up for as many shifts at work as he can, so he won't be hanging around.

Next year will involve more decisions so it will be nice to have you guys around for that.

I hope everyone is ok, am envious of anyone with nice half-term plans. I'll just be hoping for some garden weather as we're staying at home.

Dd is very sketchy on whats happening after half term 🤔
Last term, she had the week after deadline off as it was assessment week, so I imagine this will be the same.
Dd is going to look for work this summer. Her semi regular job is ending as the owner is selling the shop 😕
Although her college are pushing unpaid summer internships so 🤷‍♀️
I feel dreadful...sinus infection I think 😷 and its the funeral tomorrow. Great timing as ever!

Core maths (Maths in context) survived. DS was very happy with it, more than passed it, he said - second paper next Friday (I think). And IT tomorrow.

Hope anyone else doing maths of any kind did ok today.

I’m so sorry to hear about the funeral. I hope it went well. ( was this DH’s Uncle? ( I think ?)).

Eek as to Older DD skin condition.. I hope it goes well. Oh, I totally agree… I can’t imagine how reassuring it is to have primary care like that!

So!!.. how is DD’s project?! All ready?.. imagine the relief when it’s handed in!

Revision not going well here….. getting full on resistance when mention it. It’s like he uses it as an excuse to kick off and not do it. I’m despairing at the moment!

Funeral went well thank you. I'm very grateful to the people who came from his old hobby group! It would have been about 10 of us otherwise 😕
I feel dreadful...not sure what it is. I have a drs appointment next week, so I'll mention it then.
Dd is shattered. Deadline next friday.
Older dd not in a good way. The dr thinks its a cyst. Nhs won't touch it so seeing if we can get it removed privately. Its quite prominent now.
Thinking of the dc (and their parents!) who are doing resits 🍀

For some reason my Google calendar was on 2025 and was showing dd had an exam today 😬😖

Whoop whoop it's the weekend and we are 2/3 of the way through the exams. DS happy with how it went, so we've ordered pizza!

@Raven08.. OMG your calendar fright made me shudder! Eek!!! Things like that are SO easy to do, tho!! By that, I mean missing an important event is really quite easy to do! Thank God is was just last year’s Calendar! 😹

Ahhhhh, the funeral sounds lovely. How fab that people made the effort. It may be something small to you, but something like showing up rather than just thinking about it

I’m so sorry that older DD not good.. that sounds super scary….. I would definitely look into whether it’s something you can sort out privately, I’m guessing it’s something that is only going to get worse…? How horrible to be going through this. I do hope you get it sorted for her. ( oh the additional stresses!) x

I’m glad you have a Doctor’s appointment… it’s not good to be feeling so wretched… ( and coping with others, too)… I hope you start feeling a little bit better…. And I hope you get some rest this weekend……🤞💖.

As for here… well….DS’s girlfriend is here, and I can see zero revision………🤯. I’m going to get my book and my 🐩 🐩 and head to bed, I think! Otherwise I’ll keep stressing about the bloody resit!!!! 🙀😹

I love characters like that! 😹…. Eccentric… or Irascible …. Or, just plain awkward! 😈.. I bet they loved him because of it, not despite of!

My Dad was in the emergency services, and there was a lovely turn out of colleagues, and vehicles for a guard of honour…. (?) at his funeral. I so wish I had photos to show the DS’ ( he died 22 years ago, so they just have stories of the Grandad they never met).

Anyway! Three sleeps to Paper One! I say that, but I haven’t slept for two nights! Flashbacks to last years GCSE Hell…

How is everyone’s End of Year One ticking along?!

I am really not sure what is outstanding, assignment wise. DS used to keep me up to date. But, in the last couple of months, not so much….. bits of “ oh! I’m up to date!”… then mention made of three, or so, outstanding.

I guess the English resit is affecting him mentally ( it certainly is me, anxiety wise), and I think that is what is at the core of the few meltdowns recently. I also want TK know what has been said to make his foot come off the pedal, so to speak, in order for him to have started saying “ Well, I can always retake it again next year”…..

*Want “ to” know!! My bloody phone resets to TK, which must emanate from when I used to ( had to retype that!😹!) message my Mum when she was out shopping! 😈🤷‍♀️😹!
