I mentioned on the uni thread that DS and his dad went to Warwick today. He came back very enthused which is good because he is going to have to work very hard to get the grades as they are stretching to say the least!

temperedolive · 12/10/2025 02:21

She's in at Bristol!!!

She's delighted. I am very happy for her, though I'm concerned about the housing options in Y2 and beyond. But I suppose students make it work every year, and she will, too, if it's where she ends up.

I think she still has her heart set on Oxford, but she's giddily googing pictures of the Bristol campus now and reading descriptions of modules, so it's great she can get excited about somewhere else.

I think Oxford is a long shot (not because she's not brilliant, but her school doesn't send many people to Oxbridge and I know nothing about that world) but I deeply respect her for making the effort.

ComingInByAnsible · 12/10/2025 09:28

Woohoo @temperedolive, congratulations! So exciting to start seeing offers come in!

bluefineliner · 12/10/2025 09:37

@temperedolive wow congratulations to your DD how exciting for you all. Lovely to have that back up reassurance whilst waiting for further news.

JessyCarr · 12/10/2025 09:44

Great news @temperedolive!

Ventress · 12/10/2025 09:54

Fantastic news @temperedolive- congrats to your daughter!

It sounds like our young people have had some very positive open day experiences this weekend.

MiniMidiMaxi · 12/10/2025 10:22

Not been on here for a little while - have sadly had a family bereavement, so all things uni etc have taken a back seat in my head.

DS pulled out of this ESAT sitting after deciding against an early uni application - he’ll sit the second if he decides to apply to Imperial. Bath is his favourite so far, he liked the look of Warwick yesterday too. He has made no progress on his personal statement - the school are focused on the early applications at the moment (they have a lot!). He’s been applying for lots of part time jobs since he turned 18, he has an interview this afternoon, so fingers crossed.

He’s also been busy with his ‘positions of responsibility’ stuff, and there seem to be at least fortnightly 18th birthday parties - often involving a lift home at an ungodly hour! Ah well, my dad did it for me back in the day!

Newlease · 12/10/2025 14:19

@MiniMidiMaxi sorry to hear about the family news.
DD went bath yesterday and loved it too. I think that would take the place of Southampton. We didn't go Warwick, which sub is he applying @MiniMidiMaxi, DD is mow wobbling about her specific Engg branch. Bath yesterday said they can switch within first two years, I think that helped this added to list now.
@Waspie when is your DS's exam? good luck to all kids sitting exams coming week, TMUA and other ones. @AuntyBulgaria good to have something exciting to work towards, hopefully he can focus now. @temperedolive well done for getting that offer from Bristol. good to know they respond quickly to early applications. we haven't submitted UCAS yet. probably on Monday.
Is this thread dying down or everyone moved to somewhere else? I feel like its all scattered now

Newlease · 12/10/2025 14:23

Sorry about all the typos, mumsnet is very slow/chrome is not coping with it on my phone

MiniMidiMaxi · 12/10/2025 14:51

@Newlease - DS is looking at engineering too - either mechanical or joint mechanical/electrical. Southampton on our list as well, and probably Bristol. What specialisms is your DD debating?

bluefineliner · 12/10/2025 16:04

Hi,
Just catching up with you all. @Newlease I think various posters have joined other threads but I'm sure the core of us is still here monitoring how we're all doing. I know I am, I can't contribute to anything maths/engineering related though so am learning about the exams some of your YP are sitting now, they sound horrendous 😂.

After DD sitting UCAT in the summer I think we were all traumatised at the thought of her ever having to do it again if things don't work out this year! Now her UCAS is submitted and acknowledgements received it is a long waiting game for us to see if any interviews are offered. Probably be late Nov before we hear anything.

So now we are beginning interview prep, which is a bit mind blowing to start with. I am convinced there are enough resources online, it is just organising it into a manageable plan for DD to tackle without feeling overwhelmed. Although medical ethics is an interesting subject I wouldn't want to face an interview with questions on them.

When do YP sitting the entrance exams find out results?

Newlease · 12/10/2025 17:07

@MiniMidiMaxiMechanical and Aero, was really interested in Nuclear, such a shame that they have to stick to write in length about only one interest and the course. Bristol and Southampton, now Bath. Now she knows too many ppl applying the same colleges, doing the same exams and applying for same course. Obviously they all met/hangout beacause of the same interests and stuff, so I don’t know what she was expecting!!
@bluefinelinerDDs friend who applied for medicine is now doing TMUA for her 5th option, just because she likes maths as well. Kids are putting themselves under so much pressure. Hope you will get some offers soon, or is it different to medicine?
DDs entrance exam was last week and she did okay. I kept telling her, that was not going to be an easy exam, so all we can do is practice and sit the test 😀. UCAS not submitted yet.

ComingInByAnsible · 13/10/2025 12:26

Yay, first offer here - from Exeter for Economics and Politics! DS is super happy 😀

Countrylife2002 · 13/10/2025 15:19

No offers in yet for anyone from Durham or Edinburgh ?
would so love dd to get one offer in to take the heat off a bit !!

SilverBlue56 · 13/10/2025 16:07

It's the 13th October! There's three months til the deadline and most of our kids haven't even applied yet because they aren't early applicants so probably try and calm down...

Countrylife2002 · 13/10/2025 18:11

🤨 not sure there is any call to be so rude. I’m calm, am simply asking as people are already getting offers so am interested to hear which unis. This is the relevant thread for such a question! Maybe hop off if you don’t like it.

That’s a great offer! Well done to your DS!

And congrats to your DD!
You’ve summed up how I feel exactly - I was never interested in Oxbridge but credit to those of our dc giving it a whirl, despite it being very much a long shot !

pinkdelight · 13/10/2025 18:18

Yeah I think it's fine to ask that question when there are offers coming in already from several unis. It's also fine to have not applied yet. And fine to be stressed or calm in either/both scenario(s). This is generally a nice place to share feelings whatever stage of the process we're at and get supportive replies and insights.

fwiw I'm realising that the two uni's DS has applied to (alongside Cam) are both known to be fairly late in offering so won't be holding our breath here. Also having to be patient as waiting for tmua results before filling the final two slots. Thought he'd have a stronger sense after today but though he's happy with how it went, he's not confident at this point to use a slot up on Imperial so we'll wait to see how that shakes down in late Nov then decide on the final two. Then hunker down for more waiting.

Yay, congratulations! Exeter is on our list too - lovely uni!

JessyCarr · 14/10/2025 07:09

Congratulations@ComingInByAnsible - very exciting! Exeter is on DD’s list as well, due to submit imminently. She has definitely had her head turned by Manchester’s open day, though!

Ventress · 14/10/2025 08:22

That’s great @ComingInByAnsible! Exeter is also on DS’s list. He is meeting the schools UCAS coordinator at lunchtime to (hopefully) click “send” on his application.

I have read that both Durham and Edinburgh are often late with offers @Countrylife2002Durham is on DS’ list too.

There is no HAT admissions test this year but DS has got some past papers to work on and has had the first of his mock interviews which he found really helpful.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 14/10/2025 15:01

It’s very exciting to see offers coming in already!

TMUA done this morning and school should be sending his UCAS application off today.

MAT is next week, then it’ll onto revision for mocks (after Christmas) and a driving test thrown in along the way once his cast is off.

What a rollercoaster! The worst is yet to come though I think…….

temperedolive · 17/10/2025 22:45

She decided to just check UCAS once before bed, and there was an offer from Exeter waiting! That's two sorted!

I suppose this is an advantage of needing to get things in early; they get to hear back early as well, at least at some places.

Waiting now on Leeds and Nottingham and possible Oxford interviews.

I still wonder if she did the right thing by not trying for Durham since the campus was so lovely and everyone we met was very supportive, but ultimately she just didn't feel the course was right.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 18/10/2025 08:29

How early did the dc who have got offers put in their ucas applications?

Ds’ only went in on Tuesday (pretty last minute!) so I’m not expecting him to hear anything for a few weeks, but a couple of the universities that he’s applied to have made offers to others on this and the other thread so I’m wondering if it may be sooner. I’m trying to not get too overly invested but it’s such an exciting time for them!
