@GirlsInGreen@Ventress
Leeds was good, no open windows required thankfully.
Nice campus, bit of a mishmash of old ,70s and new but I suppose that's normal.
DS liked it, the accommodation was fine. Business school is in a new building and a row of old terraced houses but everyone was lovely (obviously best behaviour lol)
You can take 40 credits in something completely unrelated which I liked, so a language or food science or anything that interests you. Gives a bit of individuality
Good day all in all.

Edited

I really liked Leeds when we went in the summer, my DD is looking at business/economics and the lecturer was very good. The sports centre got 10/10 which is vv important to her. Only one better has been Nottingham but she's decided campus life is too quiet...

Just jumping back on the thread. So exciting and also nerve wracking that some are in the position to start getting offers!

HazelHedgehog · 05/10/2025 22:34

I am all new to this and son does not want my help at all, but I think he just wants to put one course down for one uni. Is that possible, if he does not get offered an place will go through clearing/year out/re sit. Is it possible to just put one option down ?

That's what my DD wants to do. ...
She has been advised to put other things down too, which she doesn't have to take if she doesn't want to.
Right now, her stress is her tutor writes her reference, and her tutor hardly knows her and doesn't " get" the course she wants.....

bluefineliner · 04/10/2025 07:50

😂love this @Countrylife2002 ! Hopefully she'll hear something soon. Has she put all her choices in now so she can get offers from non oxbridge choices?

My DD did this 5 mins after submitting and we have an ongoing joke of me asking her 'any offers yet?' just to annoy her, as with choosing medicine she will be waiting until the end of time for any sniff of a response!

She did get a bit giddy at getting her acknowledgment emails from the unis, made it more real.

Yes she was thrilled by the acknowledgments too! Today she woke up with the sense it was another possible day for offers! Yes she’s put the full application in but all of her unis are traditionally very late in offering so it’s going to be a long few months!

ComingInByAnsible · 08/10/2025 08:25

@Countrylife2002 hope your DD gets her heart’s desire with an early offer! Sometimes it happens even with traditionally slow unis, so you never know.

@Ventress in case you meant to tag me rather than @Countrylife2002 into your question about history NEA - DS is doing his on British-Indian colonial history. He has been finding it super interesting, but having worked on it for quite a while just wants it finished now. He’s also been ill with the seasonal lurgy, poor thing, so has a bit of catching up to do.

I am worried that he isn’t getting enough time for TSA prep, but I guess it will be what it will be.

Lalux · 08/10/2025 08:30

DS told me yesterday that one of his friends who is applying for medicine got an offer for his 5th choice of Biomedical Sciences 4 hours after submitting his application to UCAS. No idea which Uni. Must be quite a nice feeling but also odd as most of them will never take the place and give medicine another go if they don’t get in this cycle.

Ventress · 08/10/2025 09:11

Apologies @ComingInByAnsible, yes I tagged @Countrylife2002 accidentally. British Indian colonial history does sound fascinating. So much for them to do at the moment. Good luck to your son.

GirlsInGreen · 09/10/2025 22:44

DD put her UCAS in last Friday - she's just got an offer today from Bristol. She's very happy "oh god someone wants me"😅. Its cheered her up no end.
Hope your dc are all marching on with the work, its all a flurry right now - a few of dd's friends are grinding for the LNAT & other tests, good luck to anyone taking them shortly.

ComingInByAnsible · 10/10/2025 08:11

Wow that’s exciting @GirlsInGreen, congratulations to your DD!

No worries @Ventress and thanks! Good luck to your DS too.

I think it is possible @HazelHedgehog but it’s prob a good idea to put down more than one just to spread your options?

@scandinavianyellowgood luck to your DS today. Plus all the others sitting entrance tests.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 10/10/2025 10:12

Blimey. It’s a busy time isn’t it? Not just the ucas application and admission tests but school expect a lot of the prefects too - helping at open evenings, being on various school councils, supporting year 7 pupils and choir suddenly seems to have a lot on too.

DS should finish his application today and school plan to submit on Monday. The final college choice is going to come down to the toss of a coin I think 🤷🏻‍♀️

Good luck to those taking their ESAT, ds kicks off with his TMUA next week.

JessyCarr · 10/10/2025 10:14

Are we allowed to know which colleges are in the running @Muchtoomuchtodo?

Muchtoomuchtodo · 10/10/2025 10:17

It still seems to be quite changeable but for the last few days it’s been Balliol, Trinity and Exeter! This is after having looked at the unofficial prospectus for a few more colleges!

I’m trying to remind him that if he is successful in getting an offer, there’s a good chance that it won’t be from the college that he applies to anyway.

GirlsInGreen · 10/10/2025 12:30

@scandinavianyellow ☘️☘️☘️ Best of Irish luck for you boy today😃

JessyCarr · 10/10/2025 13:39

No bad choices there @Muchtoomuchtodo- but I do have a soft spot for Trinity, which I included on my list of 3 choices back when that was a thing. Not too huge in terms of people, gorgeous gardens, always prioritised good food and taking care of each other. One of my nieces has graduated from Trinity in recent years having had some real personal difficulties (health) crop up in her time there. The way the college rallied round for her was wonderful, and she came out with a well-deserved First and a fierce love for her college. She would also want me to mention that Balliol famously murdered Trinity’s fish!

Very best of luck to @scandinavianyellow’s DS today.

gingercat02 · 10/10/2025 15:30

We finally have predicted grades! ABB which is as good as I would have hoped so push on now for the real thing.
DS is off to Berlin on Thursday for 4 days, I'm quite jealous of the trip, sounds great.
However DH and have the perfect excuse for a few days in a cottage with some old uni mates.
Well done to those with offers and a short wait for the others.

JessyCarr · 10/10/2025 15:36

That’s great news @gingercat02!

Muchtoomuchtodo · 10/10/2025 15:46

Great news @gingercat02. It’s so much easier to make decisions with that information. Hope DS has a great time in Berlin.

Ventress · 10/10/2025 16:36

DH’s uncle was at Bailliol back in the 1970’s but wasn’t allowed to graduate because he didn’t clear his bar bill! This says a lot about DH’s family 😂 He did graduate eventually when his dad cleared the bill for him. DS did not chose to apply to Bailliol. I doubt anyone is still there from the 1970’s but DS didn’t want to take the chance!

Good luck to your son today @scandinavianyellow

Great PG’s @gingercat02- well done to your son! Hope he enjoys Berlin and you enjoy your break with your friends!

Congratulations on your daughter’s offer @GirlsInGreen- fantastic boost to know you have one in the bag!

scandinavianyellow · 11/10/2025 11:59

Thanks for good wishes - he said it was "alright"- he is def relieved it is over.
Need to focus on the next part of application papers now for Cam itself.
Feel like I'm constantly nagging about something.

That’s great @scandinavianyellow , I think it’s a relief to get predictions finalised. Dd off with DH to Liverpool open day today, hope she likes it, on paper it’s her first choice, she liked Manchester too, but thinks it may not be realistic, certainly for the BSc, which she seems to prefer as an option to the BA.

They’re staying up there overnight with family in Lancaster, I’m really not liking her being so far away! I’m so proud of her and I know her going away will do her the world of good, but there’s a bit of me that’s just not ready for her to be all grown up.

JessyCarr · 11/10/2025 20:52

We had an excellent visit to Manchester today. DD very enthused by the various options open to her (variations on Arabic Studies or Arabic + “something” joint honours). I fear the list of courses she fancies at Manchester got longer rather than shorter today! But they were very amenable - apply for more than one course if you want, send us a separate email if you can’t say everything you want to say in your PS, here are the direct emails for the various course admissions leads, so just be in touch with any questions, etc. The sun even shone for us, unlike for those who coincided with Storm Amy last weekend! We thought it was a well-organised open day and gave a really good impression. Hope others still doing the visits have also had a worthwhile day.
