Thread 38 Covid Cohort, After Results Day

1000 replies

CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee · 20/08/2022 06:03

ALL our children are heroes of their own stories, they have thrived through a once in a century catastrophe and they will succeed

This is a support thread for our young adults post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting, and their results (life updates for those who went into work or have had results earlier). It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades. It's all relative!

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.

Our DS/DD may continue down various pathways ( employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will find a thread within the Further Ed board.Possibly a move to Parent of Adult Children Board in future? Post Sept?

DD has aced her GCSEs, 14 x A star and 1 x A, she is bouncing off the walls and the rest of us are quietly relieved as her high goals were a bit of a worry. She has now been sent some compulsory bridging work which is not going down so well 😂
What a week, glad not to have to go through that again.
Well done all and hope everyone on the thread is moving forward with optimism!

cariadambyth · 25/08/2022 12:44

Congratulations to all who have had GCSE results today. I don’t know how you’ve done it, I’m still recovering from last week, I can’t imagine having to go through it all again!!
Dd seems to have joined a few WhatsApp groups etc which has helped her feel slightly less anxious and we have done a Dunelm run so things seem to be ticking along quite nicely at the moment.

Monkey2001 · 25/08/2022 12:50

Great to see more happy results day posts, well done all!

Tomnooktoldmeto · 25/08/2022 12:56

@Piggywaspushed we’ve just received invitations to NTU early orientation for disabled/ neurodiverse students on September 9th which I plan to encourage both of mine to attend

Its all moving very fast now

Cantonet · 25/08/2022 13:11

DS has finally told me. He got the 9's he needs to stay at his school & a couple of 8's. One will be remarked as its 1 mark off a 9. And he's gone back to sleep 💤

Piggywaspushed · 25/08/2022 13:26

I have just done online Dunelm shop. DS's two contributions were not knowing what a clothes airer is and requesting 'inoffensive grey or blue' bedding.

mummyinbeds · 25/08/2022 14:11

Well done to all the GCSE siblings. Some amazing results to be proud of.

DD made it back from Africa having had the best time ever. She has plans to go back next year for a longer stay and has a list of supplies she wants to take for the children out there.

DS has agreed to go to Ikea - with his sister, not with me ☹️ I'm guessing they'll get meatballs and a fake plant.

Delphigirl · 25/08/2022 14:18

Well done everyone on results! Some fantastic results reflecting all their hard work.
Of DDs friends there are quite a few not happy with English marks - mostly lit but also Lang. No real other complaints.
delighted to hear about your DD’s time in Ghana @mummyinbeds - sounds like a great success.

I have just taken DD shopping. She lives in hoodies and baggy sweats and school have just changed their dress code for sixth form to say no hoodies, no sweats, no leggings, nothing ripped, nothing too baggy. I’m delighted!!! She has bought a whole new wardrobe and looks fab. Gone for a sort of 70s rock-chick look 😁

icanbewhatiwant · 25/08/2022 15:05

Well done to all the gcse grades today. I can't imagine having A levels and GCSEs results the same year. It's another 3 years before ds3 will be taking his ...Feels a long way off, no doubt it'll come round quickly.

crazycrofter · 25/08/2022 15:42

Phew, finally back after a mammoth day of driving. Ds got to school at 8 with his friend and couldn’t understand why the head was grumpy with them for coming half an hour early! By the time we got there at 9 he’d disappeared.. things are never simple with ds and it was embarrassing asking the teachers to search for him! Finally tracked him down at the tram stop..

He got all above 6, which is amazing for him as he’s never got 6s in English. He was a bit disappointed with a couple of grades but no big deal. He’s decided on Sociology, Business and PE A Levels

Alsoplayspiccolo · 25/08/2022 16:03

I was desperate to hear how your boy did, crazy, and it’s definitely been worth the wait! Congratulations to him, especially for English. He pulled it out of the bag when it counted!

Delphigirl · 25/08/2022 16:37

Fab crazy!!!

Seeline · 25/08/2022 16:54

Congratulations to all GCSE-ers! Some great results!

DD had one of 'those' moments this morning. DS has been back and forth this summer, but finally went back for the last time this morning. Said goodbye - see you at Christmas! She suddenly realised that she wouldn't be home until Christmas either! Obviously, she can come for a weekend, and we can visit her, but I think Christmas seems a long way off at the moment 🙁

OverlySensitive · 25/08/2022 16:55

Some absolutely amazing GCSE results!!! Congratulations!!! So well deserved all of them

Delphigirl · 25/08/2022 17:08

Ok you may all remember my DS in the US for a year abroad was put in a flat with a music megastar’s kid.
Well he is moving in today (after a 3 day induction trip) and the kid….. has already moved out to another flat 🤣🤣🤣

so he hasn’t even seen them. Shortest celebrity association EVER. at least we know it was nothing DS did!

give me a month and I may even tell you who the megastar is. Kid has gone public about where they are at college…

CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee · 25/08/2022 17:11

Ooh Delphi ...the suspense !

Congrats on some fab GCSE results !!!

Haha! Total opposite here - stood in dunelm for what felt like hours deciding on which shade of grey for mugs!

DS wants white bedding as if “looks nice”
I said no 😂

Fiddlersgreen · 25/08/2022 17:22

Well @Delphigirl if they’ve moved out then I think you can definitely tell us!

ProggyMat · 25/08/2022 17:56

Belting GCSE results- well done all! ⭐️
@Delphigirl perhaps it’s for the best? Particularly if your DS prefers a quiet flat?

EwwSprouts · 25/08/2022 18:00

Congratulations on the GCSE results! More hardworking DC reaping the rewards.

@Delphigirl That could have been a very interesting flat share. If there leases crossed then he can still claim it I reckon and swerve the lack of stories with respect her privacy. Now we get to play guess the replacement?

EwwSprouts · 25/08/2022 18:01

Their not there!

Delphigirl · 25/08/2022 18:03

I think he is faintly relieved! I don’t think there is a replacement yet but no doubt I will get the full story later

278Newnames · 25/08/2022 18:08

Well done on all the GCSE results!

Delphi maybe that’s a bullet dodged there.
