Thread 38 Covid Cohort, After Results Day

1000 replies

CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee · 20/08/2022 06:03

ALL our children are heroes of their own stories, they have thrived through a once in a century catastrophe and they will succeed

This is a support thread for our young adults post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting, and their results (life updates for those who went into work or have had results earlier). It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades. It's all relative!

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.

Our DS/DD may continue down various pathways ( employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will find a thread within the Further Ed board.Possibly a move to Parent of Adult Children Board in future? Post Sept?

@Alsoplayspiccolo upgrading info might be different depending on your supplier. Ours sent a list out by email with all available upgrades. You just email back for a final quote but they are saying there may be a 6-8 week delay on Macs (DD asked for a quote today)

Fruitygal · 30/08/2022 22:43

Filled in Tell us about your dyslexia form today for Durham and they came back an hour later and offered her an initial chat via teams to discuss her requirements etc this week or next. Impressed

@Tomnooktoldmeto is right maybe different wherever you go with dsa - we have been quoted differently in terms of price plus availability 3-4 weeks ?! Who knows x

CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee · 31/08/2022 00:13

Do we have any birthdays on the 31st? I'm presuming that is the last for this thread /age group?
I've made a shiny new thread over in Parents Of Adult Children. That seemed the most appropriate place. When we've finished this one we can go over there and liven the board up a bit.

Thanks for the new thread @CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee great opening post. I'll stay here for now.

Managed to update Student Finance yesterday, we forgot we needed to change course code as a result of the uni merging DS's course with another one over the summer then the SFE website wouldn't recognise the new one, but the uni sorted it so we could do it.

DS and I are both starting to feel nervous now. Only a week and a half to go.

cheninblanc · 31/08/2022 07:31

My dd has left for her first day! Very excited and officially a London commuter

GoldenRuby · 31/08/2022 07:40

Fingers crossed all goes well @cheninblanc .

@Seeline - we used to stay at the Premier Inn Norwich Riverside when visiting DS. There is an on site car park and it is an easy drive from campus. Nicer than the Travelodge in town.

Heifer · 31/08/2022 08:06

@cheninblanc really pleased for you (and you). Hope she enjoys her 1st day :-)

278Newnames · 31/08/2022 08:20

Good luck to DD @cheninblanc

CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee · 31/08/2022 08:31

Great news @cheninblanc she certainly seems driven ! Let's hope the novelty of the commute and excitement stays with her as long as poss !

Fingers crossed for @cheninblanc + DD, tell us how it went!

Seeline · 31/08/2022 08:58

Thanks for the recommendation @GoldenRuby - I'll check it out.

Hope all goes well @cheninblanc

crazycrofter · 31/08/2022 09:37

All the best to your dd @cheninblanc !

We’re moving all our furniture into storage tomorrow and dh has badly sprained his wrist 😩 - such bad timing. We have some help in the evening and in theory the kids and I could get quite a bit done in the day… but both are acting a bit teenagery at the moment 😬

Alsoplayspiccolo · 31/08/2022 09:49

Thanks, Fruity and Tomnook.
We’ll call the suppliers today to see what’s what, thanks.

Good luck to mini Chenin today! Hope she has a fantastic first day.

Final day at home today for DS. I didn’t sleep much last night and we still have a lot of packing and some last minute purchases to make.
I feel a bit sick and very emotional, so I’m going to take the dog for a walk and hope that helps.

Alsoplayspiccolo · 31/08/2022 09:50

Hope your day goes ok, crazy.
Teenagery…that’s a good description for our 2 too. Trying, isn’t it, especially when you need them to step up and help.

singingstones · 31/08/2022 10:00

Have a good day, Also Flowers

278Newnames · 31/08/2022 10:13

Good luck today @crazycrofter , hope their tennagerish behaviour dissipates!
@Alsoplayspiccolo I feel for you, I am bursting into tears at stupid things and we still have a few weeks left!

278Newnames · 31/08/2022 10:14

*teenagerish (make up a word and I still can't type it Grin)

Tomnooktoldmeto · 31/08/2022 10:46

Absolutely loving ‘teenagery’ sums my 2 up completely

singingstones · 31/08/2022 10:54

Mine both have bridging work to do - DS is in bed contemplating an afternoon at the beach and DD is in bed contemplating an afternoon at the shops.

Alsoplayspiccolo · 31/08/2022 10:56

Thanks, singing and 278.
I feel like I’m holding my breath. Such a strange feeling, knowing tonight is the last time I’ll get to say goodnight to him for a while - we always watch tv together as a family last thing and generally all go upstairs at the same time, even if DH and I are asleep long before they are.

OublietteBravo · 31/08/2022 11:00

DD has her accommodation allocated and is currently seeking out other people in the same block via FB (she had to join FB specially). Plus looking for people doing the same course.

crazycrofter · 31/08/2022 11:03

All the best to you and ds @Alsoplayspiccolo . I hope everything goes smoothly and he settled in quickly.

Just posting this here as we only have two posts to go already ! I might summon you all if I get a moment (although that doesn't always work). Feels like Autumn already creeping in.
