Thread 38 Covid Cohort, After Results Day

1000 replies

CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee · 20/08/2022 06:03

ALL our children are heroes of their own stories, they have thrived through a once in a century catastrophe and they will succeed

This is a support thread for our young adults post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting, and their results (life updates for those who went into work or have had results earlier). It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades. It's all relative!

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.

Our DS/DD may continue down various pathways ( employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will find a thread within the Further Ed board.Possibly a move to Parent of Adult Children Board in future? Post Sept?

Excellent news chenin Hope you now get a proper chance to celebrate 🎉

Piggywaspushed · 23/08/2022 21:38

That sounds a great opportunity chenin, and potentially opening way more doors than Cornwall could.

Isthisjustnormal · 23/08/2022 21:41

Great update @cheninblanc : frustrated it took so long but sounds like a really excellent outcome!

GoldenRuby · 23/08/2022 21:43

@cheninblanc it really is Falmouth's loss, and sounds like mini Chenin is on a great path.

NCTDN · 23/08/2022 21:45

So pleased @cheninblanc

Zebracat · 23/08/2022 21:56

Whee @cheninblanc . so pleased you are sorted.
We are also sorted. Just got the news this evening that she is now classified as an Independent Student. Think it was probably the MP ( even though he’s a Tory, he’s interested in Looked After Children and levelling up) intervening. It has made me resolve to campaign for change. I am so so relieved.
Been distracting myself with rugs and duvets and laundry baskets. Should hear what accommodation she has this week and then we can shop. I love old china and have quite a lot, so may be able to offload some! Definitely distinctive. I bought her a small, pink rectangular frying pan, as I know they are the worst to fit in drawers. She loves it. Very japanese apparently.

PhotoDad · 23/08/2022 21:57

Very glad you got a resolution, @cheninblanc!

Fruitygal · 23/08/2022 21:59

@Zebracat That's amazing news !!!!!!! So pleased for mini Zebra!!

Fruitygal · 23/08/2022 22:01

@Isthisjustnormal we aren't going to ikea because we don't have one nearby. Lakeside is the nearest at almost 100 miles away. I've never been in a proper ikea, Norwich used to have a small ikea with a collection point and a small display, but it's gone now. Anything we need will have to come from Tesco, Morrisons or online. Duvet, pillows etc we have lots of in single size. The older 2 have double beds, but plenty of bedding left. Some of ds1's stuff came back from his uni house, so will be used again. I'm not thinking about it yet. I'll take a leaf out of ds2's book and leave it all until last min.

The dc's had a big argument this eve. Ending in ds1 hitting ds2 then ds3 told ds1 that no one wants him living here etc. so he stormed off in his car. He was gone all eve. I wish my lot could get on. It's such hard work. Ds1 is very disrespectful though. But he doesn't seem to realise.

PhotoDad · 23/08/2022 22:05

Wow @Zebracat, great news!

cheninblanc · 23/08/2022 22:06

Zebracat that is amazing news! Well done you for advocating so hard for her x

HarrietDVane · 23/08/2022 22:07

Great news @Zebracat! So pleased for you Smile

ealingwestmum · 23/08/2022 22:07

Another great result for today, well done Zebra, and now the cause has you on the case, double win :)

chenin, Primark clearly know how to retain their good ones in today’s challenging job market, huge compliment to your DD’s work ethic in working around her needs.

singingstones · 23/08/2022 22:09

Fantastic news zebra and well done for fighting so hard for her, you are awesome

Piggywaspushed · 23/08/2022 22:11

Oh, sorry decent Tory. I'll let you off for a short period 😁

I do know some MPs do take an interest. All hope is lost for me with mine...

It's fantastic news!

Monkey2001 · 23/08/2022 22:13

Such lovely news from @cheninblanc and @Zebracat . Well done to you and your DDs for great outcomes. 👑🎉

sazzy5 · 23/08/2022 22:17

@Piggywaspushed i think there are some good Tory mps about, sadly nowhere near enough of them. Well done @Zebracat, you did it!
@cheninblanc so pleased for your daughter, it actually sounds better for her.
I went to IKEA once, couldn’t get out of the place and couldn’t see what everyone raved on about. That was about 20 years ago though. Sainsburys for us I think. DS is inter railing so no shopping yet.

EwwSprouts · 23/08/2022 22:29

@Zebracat Thrilled for you both. You broke a ceiling there! What an achievement.

cheninblanc · 23/08/2022 22:31

Sazzy5 I think everything in our house is ikea! My dds like going for a Saturday night out 😅

mango0 · 23/08/2022 22:34

A good news day :-) I'm really pleased for you both @cheninblanc and @Zebracat you must both be feeling very happy and relieved! I'm sorry for your loss though @cheninblanc

Still waiting to hear about accommodation allocation here too, we've started some shopping though. Dd has a good day too, she got her first pay packet (literally, cash in an envelope - I wouldn't have thought that was very common these days) and she's booked a couple of days camping with her friends in September.

I'm thinking about emailing my own MP; there's a 3-6 month wait for a contraceptive implant in our area! Absolutely shocking, especially considering we have one of the highest teenage pregnancy rates in the UK, and also high rates of social deprivation which mean pregnancy intervals are even more important. I knew it was bad but I didn't realise it was that bad.

My good news today is I have been offered a place on the MSc course. I'll actually be starting uni before dd!

Cantonet · 23/08/2022 22:37

Absolutely brilliant news @Sazzy & very well done to your dd @cheninblanc for formulating such a good alternate plan.

Zebracat · 23/08/2022 22:44

@Piggywaspushed .not sure if I would go as far as decent!

singingstones · 23/08/2022 23:00

More good news, well done Mango
