Threads was terrifying!

I grew up next to a nuclear submarine base. Also not fun.

Used to cook and serve Les Dennis his breakfasts and late evening drinks while his production team fired 100 peopled surveyed questions at me …. The aim was to make me stressed changing their orders…. So they could get crazy answers and then write adlibs for Les for the hit skis at the time Family fortunes He is an amazingly kind guy.

Fruitygal · 17/08/2022 21:30

*hit show

Fruitygal · 17/08/2022 21:35

Give us a P please Bob from Blockbusters fame was a little bit fussy and Bob Monkhouse was an absolute darling …..

DS2 works in high end TV and film so has met loads of super cool people ….

Fruitygal · 17/08/2022 21:36

My niece plays a dead body in War of the Worlds🤣

I have taught a few kids of 'celebs' as in footballers and musicians

horrificbiology · 17/08/2022 21:46

A local artist's garden backed on to my MIL. She had an Open House/Gallery event. MIL was quite surprised to see her cat feature so domestically in some paintings!

Beautiful cats 🐱
And Fruity I am glad to hear that Les Dennis is nice because I have a soft spot for him.

I saw him being interviewed once and he told a story of when he was married to Amanda Holden, they had builders in. She was going out to get something and asked Les if had any money on him so he gave her a tenner. She scoffed and said "that's not going to be enough" so he gave her some more. And the builder looked at him and said "ha, kids eh, who'd 'ave 'em?"

I thought anyone who could tell that story about himself must be nice.

This is such good reading! Got to hop off soon but xxxx

singingstones · 17/08/2022 22:01

And my favourite Bob Monkhouse jokes are:

Everyone laughed when I said I wanted to be a comedian - well they're not laughing now, are they?

And:

I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my father. Not screaming and terrified like his passengers.

tryingmybest13 · 17/08/2022 22:14

@singingstones tee hee

singingstones · 17/08/2022 22:21

Goodnight all, good luck and thank you for your excellent company.
(Who am I kidding, will probably be back shortly when I can't sleep)

Our one and only family pet parrot Abraham, sadly died in November 2017. He was 17yrs old.
One day I came back from work and there he was, DH had bought him from a breeder and he came to us at 6 weeks old. We taught him all sorts of tricks and things to say. He knew all our names and would mimic our voices which was quite funny. He also mimicked the sound of all the electronics e.g microwave, fridge door when open etc. When i went into labour with ds2, it was just me and him at home. After i came back from the hospital he had picked up on my labour sounds and used to do these long deep groans a lot which was hilarious.
He had amazing hearing. Every time i made a call he somehow knew when the call had started ringing on the other side and he would mimic that too. He would follow it with (in my voice) 'Hello, Mum, how are you?'. He knew when we were praying and used to say 'Amen' & halleluuuyah! stressing the uu.
DH taught him to dance, one foot a time and bob his head up and down which was entertaining.
I became his main carer as dh travelled a lot. When he was 15yrs, He started plucking this feathers a common illness in parrots when they are in their 'teens', i managed to control it for a while but then it started again and he became quite ill and stopped eating. We visited 3 different vets but there wasn't much they could do for him. It was terribly sad. One day 2 yrs after he first became ill, i was at home with him alone and had been studying all day. It was night and I went to cover him up as i had always done at bedtime. He was hanging by his wing, lifeless Sad. I think his heart just gave up. DH was overseas and distraught, the boys were distraught. We buried him in our garden and had a proper funeral for him, hymns (all things bright and beautiful). I buried him in what has now become a flower bed. There are loads of wild flowers on his plot and I always miss him.

Distraction Inn has lived up to its name. Thank you all! Signing off.

Alsoplayspiccolo · 17/08/2022 22:47

Here’s our pup - he celebrated his 10th birthday on holiday last week.
He’s my Velcro dog - always with me - and I’m hoping he’ll stop me feeling too lonely when both DCs have left.

Haven’t got much in the was of famous people anecdotes. I’ve had some really embarrassing sex dreams though. Not saying . Jonathon Davies story is definitely an Awful Warning..

Zebracat · 17/08/2022 22:54

Cats

Fruitygal · 17/08/2022 22:55

....@singingstones he was one of the most lovely guys ...he was dating Amanda and she was young only a year or two older than me .....she popped over a couple of times ...but I wasn't keen - think she's probably mellowed with age..

Love you Bob monkhosue joke - off to watch ...the next episode of Shetland ...a murder to switch off before bed is required.

Thanks for the pics and the stories very helpful .

Zebracat · 17/08/2022 23:00

and dogs. Not posting!

EquallyDivided · 17/08/2022 23:00

Not much in the way of famous people anecdotes here either but I did nearly run over Alan Titchmarsh a few years ago (he stepped out in front of my car).

I have distracted myself this evening with the third episode of Marriage, looking through some magazines, going to Sainsburys with DS to buy ice cream and sitting in the kitchen listening while the DCs made a cake together.
