Thread 31 Covid Cohort - Hopping through Easter and Revision

1000 replies

OrangeCinnamonCroissant · 07/04/2022 13:15

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.

Our DS/DD may go down various paths (such as employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will most likely find us within the Further Ed board.

previous Thread 30

I've made this one a little bit earlier as things are so busy, at home and on thread, so please feel free to use up previous thread first

@mummyinbeds yes she has - and I just checked again. It would feel a bit impatient to chase. I wouldn’t have worried if I hadn’t known everyone on here has already heard!

Heifer · 08/04/2022 10:03

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn - we applied at midnight and DD didn't get her 1st choice of shared bathroom with 3/4 bed in Rutland - she got 2nd choice of ensuite and single bed.

@crazycrofter - have you logged into check you haven't missed anything? I can click on Application/Offer/Induction but not Room as that's bot been allocated yet (sorry if you have already)

accommodation.nottingham.ac.uk/

Heifer · 08/04/2022 10:04

ah sorry I was too slow - @mummyinbeds already suggested that!

Heifer · 08/04/2022 10:06

@crazycrofter - did you get an email Confirmation of receipt of your application for accommodation?

crazycrofter · 08/04/2022 10:08

Yes, it's showing the application as received, so doesn't look like anything is wrong with it.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 08/04/2022 10:25

@Heifer Clear information about booking times etc should have been published by Notts. I also think the number of deferred students hasn't helped and not sure why their accommodation is a priority nor, indeed, that of 2nd years who know the city now and surely more likely to want to share with friends ?

Heifer · 08/04/2022 10:47

I agree @JustHereWithMyPopcorn - I even emailed and asked what time it would open and was told 8.00am which I shared with you all. I feel bad that it was wrong and really hope that @crazycrofter DDs get her accommodation offer soon so I can relax!

crazycrofter · 08/04/2022 10:50

@heifer it’s not your fault! Grin I’m quite irritated that they didn’t make it clear though.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 08/04/2022 11:24

It’s definitely not your fault @Heifer! I don’t know they are so cagey about it all, whoever made the decisions on it need a new job!

crazycrofter · 08/04/2022 12:40

So she just got offered Rutland en-suite when she requested single study! Can’t really afford the en-suite so I’m on with someone in the accommodation team trying to change it!

crazycrofter · 08/04/2022 13:13

Don’t you hate it when people aren’t straightforward about things? It was clearly just a mistake as there were single study rooms left in Rutland and Sherwood, but instead of sushi that, the lady on the online chat just said ‘we’ll send you a new offer’ and signed off! It didn’t come so I tried again with a slightly more helpful chap who told me what was available. But still no apology that they’d made an error!

Oh well, it’s all ok in the end, she’s accepted her Rutland single study, so you can relax @heifer Grin

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 08/04/2022 13:16

And we got offered single study when we requested ensuite!

crazycrofter · 08/04/2022 13:26

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn if he’d be willing to do 31 weeks, I assume there is now an en-suite in Rutland going free!? If you go on the online chat thEt will change it

mummyinbeds · 08/04/2022 13:29

I'm glad your DD is sorted with accommodation at last @crazycrofter. Rutland is going to be busy with Mumsnet kids.

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn you should get DS to swap to an ensuite in Rutland so that he isn't left out 🤣

crazycrofter · 08/04/2022 13:42

Just noticed a random ‘sushi’ in my earlier post! Grin

We’ll all be trying to work out whether our kids’ new friends are from here, come September! Dd is gradually collecting people she knows who are going to Nottingham- so far one current school friend, 3 friends from her old school and a girl from a different school who she met at a party in year 9!

AnneOfCleavage · 08/04/2022 13:53

Thanks for the new thread Orange and fresh round up Singing

We have now broken up for Easter and it couldn't have come quickly enough. DD was off yesterday as feeling run down and tired but did her half day today and is now chilling with her boyfriend who is equally exhausted. She has planned to do two hours of revision every morning but I don't see that happening as she's more an evening studier but happy to be proved wrong.

Heifer · 08/04/2022 13:56

Phew I'm glad it's sorted @crazycrofter :-) Seems Rutland is the place to be.. DD doesn't know anyone goinghoping to go to Nottingham this year! An older friend looked at snap chat map last week and there were only a few from her year group there too. It's only 2.5 hrs away from here but the map was full of people at Manchester, Leeds & Sheffield with a few scattered south. There may well be more from other schools going so we will see. Yes it would be interesting to find out if our DD/DS end up knowing eachother.. I can't see DD admiting to anyone that I use MN though as she rolls her eyes each time I mention you lot :-)

icanbewhatiwant · 08/04/2022 14:13

Thanks for the new thread. Ds2 finished school for Easter break yesterday, he's meant to have a study day today, but isn't awake yet. I usually insist he gets up on study days, but I've not done today. Apparently he has to go into school on 2 days next week to stuff for business studies, the teacher has asked them in. As the buses won't be running a few can't get in so Ds is picking a few up. We have a letter about the prom. he's keen to go. There won't be study leave for his year. So I'm not sure when they will stop going in.

icanbewhatiwant · 08/04/2022 14:16

I don't think anyone else on here is intending to firm Sussex. So just Ds. He doesn't know anyone in his year who has firmed it either. He knows a few who have it as insurance though. Ds1 knew a few from school who also went to UEA with him.

KingscoteStaff · 08/04/2022 14:17

DD is planning to go into school most days - she has developed squatters' rights on the best table in the library, can get a free lunch, can pop to the gym for a break and use the photocopier/laminator in the sixth form block. Let's see...

singingstones · 08/04/2022 14:33

Icanbe Sussex is DS's Plan C as their neuroscience course was in clearing for ages last year. Not sure they would let him in if he does badly enough for Aston to say no, but that's his plan anyway. I guess it depends how many Aston end up with, their offer is BBB, so if he got ABC/AAC they might say no and Sussex might say yes. I really liked it there and the department looks very strong but it's a right pain in the neck for us to get to.

ChristopherTracy · 08/04/2022 14:43

Why is Nottingham so popular this year or is it always like this? Thanks for the new thread.

icanbewhatiwant · 08/04/2022 14:52

@singingstones I've said on here before that Ds only wanted Sussex. I wish he'd looked at others. Ds1 only wanted to go to UEA which is one of our nearest. But we did view Essex as he put that for insurance as also not that far away. Ds3 is only in year 8 but already talks of going to UEA. I hope he wants to go somewhere completely different. We travel south on holiday a lot, so would be nice if he picked somewhere north of east anglia. Transport links aren't great to anywhere from east anglia though.

Wheresthebeach · 08/04/2022 15:03

Its seems a heavy year for Nottingham for sure!

I think DD is the only one looking at Portsmouth.

mummyinbeds · 08/04/2022 15:16

DS doesn't know anyone else going to Nottingham 🙁
