Thread 31 Covid Cohort - Hopping through Easter and Revision

1000 replies

OrangeCinnamonCroissant · 07/04/2022 13:15

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.

Our DS/DD may go down various paths (such as employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will most likely find us within the Further Ed board.

previous Thread 30

I've made this one a little bit earlier as things are so busy, at home and on thread, so please feel free to use up previous thread first

Hello!

@Delphigirl Nice to see your update.

I haven’t been on here for a while. Nothing to report. Just checking in….

Zebracat · 06/05/2022 21:17

Well mine has got Cs n her 2 NEAs. I do think it kind of is what she deserved, she started the research months ago, then left the work to the very lastminute and came a cropper with both. I think we are going to be in clearing. Shes out tonight at a party, which is nice.
Dd2 had a baby today. All good in the end but it s been a bit hairy. And I’m miles away.. so I didn’t sleep last night. Shes 30, the worry never stops.

Cantonet · 06/05/2022 21:26

Congratulations @Zebracat on your new grandchild. Such an exciting time for you & your daughter.
Nice to hear from you @Delphigirl.

Monkey2001 · 06/05/2022 21:43

Congratulations @Zebracat . I think being a grandparent should be great, lots of love without all the responsibility!

Great to have you back @Delphigirl

Fiddlersgreen · 07/05/2022 01:07

Congratulations @Zebracat such lovely news and such a cute name.

@Delphigirl that’s so random, I bought an airer from our local Sainsburys last weekend!

Oblomov22 · 07/05/2022 07:55

Many congratulations Zebracat. We haven't had a baby on the thread. Do you prefer Grandma, or Nana or what name? Which Uni shall we put him down for? Wink

icanbewhatiwant · 07/05/2022 08:17

Ds1 had a time slot at UEA in 2019 we were meant to drop everything in our half hour time slot outside accommodation. Then I parked back in the main car park.

Sainsbury's. That's good to know. We don't have one anywhere locally. I bought 3 white, deep breakfast bowls from there years ago when we were on holiday. We all fight over them. They are chipped and looking scruffy. So I must head to one and get some more. They don't match my other stuff but we all like them.

@Zebracat congrats to dd2. Dh has 2 grandchildren. His dd asked if I wanted to be called nanny. No way 😂 I won't mind when I really am nanny.

Wheresthebeach · 07/05/2022 08:57

Ah congrats Zebracat...how lovely.

Alsoplayspiccolo · 07/05/2022 09:35

Gorgeous news, Zebra! Welcome to the world, Casper, and congratulations, Grandma! ❤️

Hattifatteners · 07/05/2022 11:44

Congratulations @Zebracat@Zebracat
Such lovely news 😊

Heifer · 07/05/2022 13:56

That's lovely news @Zebracat (disappointed I can't see a single emjoi to suit the occassion).

Welcome back to those that haven't been around so much recently, that's the joy of this thread - people can come and go as they want and no one is offended or put out.

Lots of revision going on here, PE coursework handed in yesterday.

Felt sorry for one of DDs friends. Her French teacher has been off long time sick, other language teacher went on maternity, bit of a crisis. School tried to cover as best they could but couldn't get supply. Ended up hiring someone whose first language was French but hadn't taught before and didn't know the spec. Head teacher helped out when she could (used to be language teacher). Just hired a new teacher to cover maternity. DDs friend was told on Thursday that her 1st oral exam is next week!! First she had heard, she asked a few times before but was told it was in hand. The school has given her the last possible day in the window but still - she is very upset. It's her 4th Alevel and doesn't need the grade but she doesn't want a low one. They have put on extra sessions for her but it was stress she could have done without.

Isthisjustnormal · 07/05/2022 14:08

welcome back @Delphigirl and huge congratulations on the grand baby @Zebracat - Casper is an adorable name!!

Delphigirl · 07/05/2022 14:41

Oh many congrats on the grandson zebra👏❤️ - I can’t wait to be a granny!

Lovely to be back everyone, and I am DELIGHTED to hear that one can now buy airers in sainsburys, so we can complete the entirety of our uni shopping in 20 mins at the big orange store! Not that I have to do it for a year.

Instead, I am working through DS’s long and esoteric kit list for his ocean crossing adventure which is (a) like a treasure hunt (“4 bottles of factor 50 sunscreen - must be biodegradable, reef friendly with no nano particles”, “2 pairs waterproof socks” “4 long sleeved technical quick dry UV (factor 50) T-shirts” etc etc) and (b) expensive (one set of ocean-quality foul weather gear, £600; one dive computer, £250; fins at £50 BARGAIN but oh no they need to be used with dive boots, that’s another £56; ad infinitum). DH keeps asking how much I have spent so far and although I have been tracking down bargains online and haven’t paid full price for almost anything I just don’t think I can bear to add it up. The only upside is that he will use much of this stuff during his degree as well.

Zebracat · 07/05/2022 14:42

Well thank you all. I am Granny.

Shimy · 07/05/2022 14:47

Grin A whopper and a cute name.

Shimy · 07/05/2022 14:58

We've gotta have 'Casper' added to the list!Grin (all in good fun) we'll make up some uni choices for him:

His predicteds are: AAA*

Oxford/Cambridge, of course
Nottingham (because it's most popular the yr of his birth)
Other choices??

He wants to study ??

Probably very different degrees by then....

Sustainability ?
