Thread 31 Covid Cohort - Hopping through Easter and Revision

1000 replies

OrangeCinnamonCroissant · 07/04/2022 13:15

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.

Our DS/DD may go down various paths (such as employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will most likely find us within the Further Ed board.

previous Thread 30

I've made this one a little bit earlier as things are so busy, at home and on thread, so please feel free to use up previous thread first

@Oblomov22 one of DD’s friends from her old school has just firmed Nottingham and she was telling her to choose catered as it’s much more sociable. It made me smile as initially she was set on self catered.

22Newnames · 16/04/2022 23:48

Wow @crazycrofter, that is the sort of thing my eldest DS does. To be honest I wish he would keep out of it, the only times he’s got into a mess are when he’s been defending other people.

@Piggywaspushed your revision plans sound amazing! I wish DS would be told what to do by somebody outside our house. How was Witness for the prosecution?, it’s something I’ve been tempted with many times but never actually got round to going.

DH and I are returning overnight from a trip to the States to get away, been away since Tuesday morning. DS on his own until Thursday night when eldest DS came back from a work trip. I understand the cats are fed and have been kept in each night as planned. DS even sent me a picture of the immaculately cleaned kitchen after he had had friends round Grin. I know eldest DS has people round tonight and I have already been asked exactly when our flight gets in so he can get tidied in time. I am sure the will is there but rarely do his and our standards meet Grin

Happy Easter all 🐰🐰
Wishing you a calm & peaceful day without any teenage angst.

BlueMarigold · 17/04/2022 08:07

Happy Easter everyone!

crazycrofter · 17/04/2022 08:34

Happy Easter everyone! We have covid Confused so not going to be doing much.

@22Newnames it’s a bit worrying isn’t it. Ds seems to see himself as defender of the weak! He’s the same at school if there’s an unequal fight happening.

Heifer · 17/04/2022 08:49

oh no @crazycrofter- Who has it and do you feel ill (hope not). Rest up and enjoy the sunshine.

Happy Easter to you too @BlueMarigold - and to everyone else :-)

crazycrofter · 17/04/2022 09:23

Dh has been feeling rough all week but had his dad’s funeral to get through so ignored it, but Friday he felt worse and tested positive. I haven’t tested but definitely have it - sore throat, headache, a bit breathless. Ds says he has a sore throat. It’s nowhere near as bad as when we had it in Dec 2020 though.

22Newnames · 17/04/2022 10:13

Yes @crazycrofter. DS also sees himself as defender of “weaker” people and has a very strong moral code. Problem is he gets affronted and jumps in before necessarily knowing all the facts. All well intentioned but hotheaded and not a great idea.

Happy Easter to all!

ealingwestmum · 17/04/2022 10:28

Crazy, hope you all feel better soon. We’ve been covid household too, I’m out the other side but the staggered infections rules out doing anything outside of the house.

Piggywaspushed · 17/04/2022 10:54

Witness for the Prosecution was good. Not to long and an atmospheric setting. DS enjoyed it.

Crazy, I hope you all recover quickly .

Piggywaspushed · 17/04/2022 10:54

too

EwwSprouts · 17/04/2022 12:51

Happy Easter.

Wishing those with covid speedy recovery. My parents have it for the first time but Dad is cutting the grass so thankfully mild.

I'm doing a roast as DS NEVER gets a Sunday roast. Hmm There may have been negotiations that he revise while it cooks. Smile Then he's off to friends and on to an 18th tonight.

singingstones · 17/04/2022 13:34

Happy Easter everyone, hope everyone is managing to relax a bit, the calm before the storm.

I just dug out the child trust fund info as DS wants to use some of it for his holiday. He has £750 from just the initial investment, not too bad at all.

Get well soon to those under the weather Daffodil

Volterra · 17/04/2022 14:53

Happy Easter to you all and a speedy recovery to everyone who is ill.

Wheresthebeach · 17/04/2022 18:10

Happy Easter everyone.

Hope you all feel better sooncrazy: DD recovered but DH still feeling pretty shattered and not back in the office yet (wfh with naps).

Zebracat · 17/04/2022 18:15

We have an offer of BBC for Exeter. A very good, and achievable contextual offer, and it puts cats among pigeons.

crazycrofter · 17/04/2022 19:02

Oh wow, @zebracat, that’s a fantastic offer! Is she very tempted?

Piggywaspushed · 17/04/2022 19:17

That's a great offer! Is that for Liberal arts?

22Newnames · 17/04/2022 20:16

Thanks @Piggywaspushed

Excellent offer @Zebracat

Zebracat · 17/04/2022 20:25

Thanks @crazycrofter, she is, very. @Piggywaspushed, it’s for Flexible Combined honours.

Piggywaspushed · 17/04/2022 20:28

Ooh, great course!

EwwSprouts · 17/04/2022 20:32

So pleased for her @Zebracat

crazycrofter · 17/04/2022 20:44

Brilliant, could that be a first choice @Zebracat?

Zebracat · 17/04/2022 21:09

She’s waiting to hear from Cambridge foundation, but doesn’t think she did well in the interviews. She loves the WarwickLiberal Arts course too. But Devon is home so…

Wheresthebeach · 17/04/2022 22:46

Congrats zebra. Lovely offer. Exeter is a great uni and lovely location

There I was being impressed that DD was doing three mock chemistry papers…turns out it was set by her teacher!
