Thread 21 Corona Cohort - Nervous waiting, so frustrating

Monkey2001 · 09/10/2021 12:21

Continuation of OrangeCinnamonCocktail's threads

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.

Our DS/DD may go down various paths (such as employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will most likely find us within the Further Ed board.

@Seeline ds1 is at UEA it's only 40 mins drive from home. I think they were first to send an offer. Ds only wanted to go there. So was pleased. He put Essex as insurance.

@singingstones that list is impressive.

Monkey2001 · 27/10/2021 19:47

@Fiddlersgreen the applicant receives an email from UCAS when it has been submitted.

Its great to see all the offers. Offers are a long way off for us yet.

I thought I'd booked ds2's second vaccine for tomorrow at a local pharmacy. I wanted him to have it over half term as the first made him
ill. But looked again and it's not until 18th November. Not sure why I thought it was this week. That is almost 13 weeks from the first one. There are no local walk-in vaccine centres. Nearest is in Ipswich town centre, it's 28 miles away, I've never been into Ipswich. So not keen, plus I'm working most of the week, he can drive but wants me to go with him. Not sure what to do really. If we leave it with the booked one, I hope 13 weeks is ok.

PaddingtonPaddington · 27/10/2021 20:31

Wow @singingstones great alphabetised list!

Great news @Seeline on the offer

Thanks. I guess his hasn’t been submitted yet then!

@Horace123, @ProggyMat How lovely to see two potential Classicists on the thread. That was me, back in the day. I'm starting to feel nostalgic now ...

DoggerelBank · 27/10/2021 22:25

Thanks for the list, @singingstones. Very useful for someone like me who was a bit late to the party.
DS had a wander round Edinburgh on Monday and thinks it may be favourite so far.

@Monkey2001 Oh no! I think someone said kids had been skipping school using juice but it may be urban myth?

@Delphigirl Pleased Plymouth was a success.

Monkey2001 · 27/10/2021 23:29

Was it my imagination or did somebody have to send of for a replacement driving licence? DS has his test on a month and can't find his provisional license. Sigh.....

OP posts:
20newnames · 27/10/2021 23:55

@Monkey2001 if you apply online for a replacement it should be automated and come pretty quickly. I know DS’s actual license came within 4 days of him passing his test!

I would apply for a replacement asap to be on the safe side.

As an aside I once had to ID a client and asked to see his driving license. He got 4 or 5 out and asked which one I wanted Grin. Turned out he kept thinking he’d lost it and reapplying for a new one then finding the old one Shock. I did explain that when you declare it lost you’re meant to destroy it (or are you meant to send it to the DVLA 🤷‍♀️) if you then find it again!

Monkey2001 · 28/10/2021 10:39

Thanks @20NewNames, I am doing a final search in the car, but agree that we should order a new one of we don't find it today. I did tell him it might be handy to have spare ID when the old one turns up (as it will!), Didn't realise it was illegal to have 2.

Monkey2001 · 28/10/2021 11:46

Ughhh! I have discovered that if you apply for a replacement licence they need to use your passport photo. We still haven't renewed DS's passport as there didn't seem to be much point as we are not traveling abroad. Driving test in 4 weeks, don't have time to get a replacement by posting photo. Think we will have to get passport and help looking for licence. At least we have 4 weeks.....

stoneysongs · 28/10/2021 12:03

Can you get a new digital photo taken at a photo booth? I have done this for passports before - they print the photos but you also get a code which you use in your online application. The passport office can access the photo that way, so no need to send. (I haven't done it with a driving licence though.)

ealingwestmum · 28/10/2021 12:19

Argh Monkey, that does indeed scupper the swift turnaround. Keep looking for that card, and if it’s a no-show, I would make a special visit to a one day turnaround passport office. Then do the licence replacement.

icanbewhatiwant · 28/10/2021 13:00

Our neighbour sent off for her provisional in April they still haven't received it. I've seen their dd practicing her driving round the paddocks behind our house. She has a car, just can't go on the road. They've asked if they can start application again but were told no. I'd be really annoyed.

EerilyDisembodied · 28/10/2021 13:10

Oh, how annoying. DS's provisional finally arrived this week, can't remember when we made the online application but we sent the form and photo back in mid August.

Wow that's awful!

My DS passed yesterday, he's delighted, I on the other hand are a nervous wreck...!

Doesn't help that most of his friends are a 15 mile drive away (his college city), either via a motorway, busy A road or horrible country roads Shock

ealingwestmum · 28/10/2021 15:37

Huge congratulations to your DS @sofakingcool!

If I’m the only one that says that it’s because everyone’s already jumped onto the new thread. It’s in FE.

I feel like 16 again when your mates have gone onto another party! Grin

Ooh thanks for the tip off! I'm always late to finding the next thread, they move on so quickly!
icanbewhatiwant · 28/10/2021 16:36

@sofakingcool congrats to ds. Yes...I'm always a nervous wreck ds2 now passed. Just one more to worry about.

@ealingwestmum new thread? I didn't know there was one. I'll see if I can find it.

😮😮😮

No hope if we have to send in with a photo again. We applied for the new passport, just hope it is issued quickly enough to get licence in time applying on line. Or he finds the existing one.....
