Thread 21 Corona Cohort - Nervous waiting, so frustrating

Monkey2001 · 09/10/2021 12:21

Continuation of OrangeCinnamonCocktail's threads

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.

Our DS/DD may go down various paths (such as employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will most likely find us within the Further Ed board.

Lovely news seeline!

Seeline · 27/10/2021 13:18

Thanks everyone - she's really chuffed 😁

Heifer · 27/10/2021 13:20

Great news @Seeline. I liked the look of UEA but DD said no straight away for same reasons as @crazycrofter. I then realised it was 5 hr train journey or 4.5 hrs drive, which is probably why we don't know anyone that's been there. Seems to have great reviews and lots of very happy students.

stoneysongs · 27/10/2021 13:23

Great news Seeline, congrats.

Here's a first go at the list - just you, child and subject at the moment because DS is on my laptop and it would take ages on my phone. I'm not sure whether any more than this might be unwieldy but I do use the app so only have a small screen.

I haven't tagged properly but maybe this info could be added to tags for a new thread. Feel free to correct / add / subtract of course. It's what I remember and from a quick look back through the thread, so apologies to those not on there or whose info I have got wrong Blush

Fruitygal · 27/10/2021 13:29

Thanks !

Piggywaspushed · 27/10/2021 13:42

That's very impressive singing!

BlueMarigold · 27/10/2021 13:45

Biology looks popular!

stoneysongs · 27/10/2021 13:55

There are a lot of biologists - and 0 physics or chemistry, weirdly.
It's just a start and I know there are a few regular posters missing but I do feel better for having a list Grin

ealingwestmum · 27/10/2021 13:59

Fabulous singingstones. Thank you.

Monkey2001 · 27/10/2021 14:02

Love the list. We are DS/medicine.

Congratulations to @Seeline, that must be a relief! How does the offer compare to expected grades? Comfortable, achievable or aspirational?

Ill add you on - but just literally made a new thread @Monkey2001 sorry !
new thread here for when ready

stoneysongs · 27/10/2021 14:12

I knew that - can't believe I forgot you Monkey, sorry!
Think I took my list from people you tagged at the beginning of the thread Blush

ProggyMat · 27/10/2021 14:50

Well done @Seeline DD!
@singingstones great idea!

Shimy · 27/10/2021 14:59

@Monkey2001Wow! threads moving on with lightening speed. Can Ds be added?
Management/Business and Management.

Thank you.

Wheresthebeach · 27/10/2021 15:12

Oh thanks @singingstones. Interesting to see everything summed up

Seeline · 27/10/2021 15:27

@Monkey2001 The offer is AAB, so should be achievable. Her UCAS predictions are 3 x A*s, but she thinks that is pushing it!

EwwSprouts · 27/10/2021 15:56

@Seeline brilliant update!

@singingstones Great list. No destinations to add for DS. he's still thinking??

Monkey2001 · 27/10/2021 16:23
**@Monkey2001* The offer is AAB, so should be achievable. Her UCAS predictions are 3 x As, but she thinks that is pushing it!
What a lovely position - achievable offer from top choice!

Oblomov21 · 27/10/2021 16:33

Singing I love your list, thank you.

Hopeful201 · 27/10/2021 16:50

@singingstones amazing work with the list, quite a good range of subjects and no engineering. Our school has engineering and economics as the two top degrees I think.
So many offers already, that gives the DC something to hold on to whilst they are working very hard. My DS had a load of work to do in his first week of break, this week he is mostly going to 18th birthday parties.

20newnames · 27/10/2021 17:34

@Hopeful201 There is one wannabe engineer on the list! I am surprised that DS is the only one tbh.

Fruitygal · 27/10/2021 18:47

What a great selection of different courses! My DD's friends are a mixture of engineering, medicine, French, linguistics, physics, biochemistry, veterinary, maths, paramedic studies, economics, film and television production, animation and geology. None doing law degrees which surprised me. I love the fact that these teens have such different interests. Friends DDs and DSs getting offers from York, Sheffield, Nottingham, Glasgow and Exeter. She's getting frustrated as form still with school for ref etc (lots of friends chose Oxbridge hence offers now) but been out at gigs and parties so that is helping. Halloween party cancelled today as friend who is host is COVID positive (luckily DD not seen her for a week).

Alsoplayspiccolo · 27/10/2021 18:48

Brilliant work, singingstones!

Congratulations to mini Seeline - lovely news!

DD turns 18 tomorrow….feeling weirdly emotional Blush

whatsnext2 · 27/10/2021 19:06

DD looking at English joint honours. Went to Swansea last weekend but a bit disappointed- only one outside van selling hot food (it was freezing), accommodation viewing had huge queues and the joint honours hardly got a mention apart from an initial reference in the degrees offered bit. Nothing to describe how the structure allows for it, coordination etc. I have a strong feeling the department view it as a pain and there will be pressure to just do a single honours.

Fiddlersgreen · 27/10/2021 19:36

Great work @singingstones thanks for including me and DS.

Congrats to @Seeline DD!

How do we know when the school has submitted? DS submitted it to them around 2 weeks ago
