One thing to look out for on the meal card system is if any credit rolls over.

I saw one where you got £x credit each week and if it wasn't used that week you lost it and it reset each week (sorry I can't remember where that was). At Bath the credit racks up and you can use it at any time until you leave the university and then you can get it refunded. So you never 'lose' your money if they don't spend it. The 'full catered' is a £50 weekly meal credit and the 'part catered' is £25 weekly. I still think it'd be cheaper to self-cater though...

Ds2 passed his driving test this morn. I didn't think he'd pass, i guess I should have more faith. Just 2 minors. I do find the thought of him out on the roads in a car quite scary. As they say...you pass your test then learn to drive.

20newnames · 20/08/2021 13:46

Fantastic! @icanbewhatiwant

ChristopherTracy · 20/08/2021 13:51

Congrats to your DS!

icanbewhatiwant · 20/08/2021 13:53

I was going to take a detour home and get his covid vaccine. But I didn't know they'd keep his license, we had no other ID. So didn't chance it. I don't l know if they ask for ID he doesn't look 16. I've told him we must go and get one this weekend though.

AnneOfCleavage · 20/08/2021 13:57

Yay, congrats to your DS icanbe that's brilliant.

Oblomov21 · 20/08/2021 13:58

Congratulations icanbe

ealingwestmum · 20/08/2021 14:01

Well done to your boy Ican!

Volterra · 20/08/2021 14:04

Congratulations to your DS Icanbe!

Monkey2001 · 20/08/2021 14:27

Congratulations icanbe! No ID required for vaccine here.

PaddingtonPaddington · 20/08/2021 14:54

Great news icanbe. No ID required for vaccine here either.

Finally an open day in person for one of DDs choices (Leeds conservatoire) in September so have booked. Starts at 9.30am and is a 4 hour drive. No accommodation can be viewed but at least it’s something before she has to apply by 1st Oct. Considering the train and have swapped £10 Tesco clubcard vouchers for a £30 2 together railcard which I thought was a good deal as it then makes train tickets 33% cheaper.

mummabear74 · 20/08/2021 14:57

@icanbe congratulations to your DS.

mummabear74 · 20/08/2021 15:04

We took NHS number to the drop in centre but it wasn't needed as they just asked DD's name and date of birth. Very efficient service.

Monkey2001 · 20/08/2021 15:34

@PaddingtonPaddington assume you know about split ticketing for trains

icanbewhatiwant · 20/08/2021 15:58

But do any of your dc's look 13/14? I'm sure mine does...that's why I wanted to take ID. We do have nhs letter saying he can have a vaccine. But after they refused to do ds1 because he was 2 days off the 8 weeks I didn't want another wasted journey. We will go tomorrow.

icanbewhatiwant · 20/08/2021 15:59

Thanks everyone. I thought he might want to go out for a drive. But he says no...it's a chore he doesn't want to do.

@20newnames

That's is something I hadn't considered - at Nottingham they seem to have 19 meals provided per week - of which £25 can be used for lunch at various outlets on any campus - breakfast and dinner has to be in their allocated Halls ( I think). The 19 are 5 x 3 during the week and then brunch and dinner at weekends.

I hadn't even considered catered until this week when DD suddenly said that is what she wanted. It will depend on the uni she opts for tbh if the accomodation is too ££ she will self cater to keep the costs down but if ok we can go catered. She may well have to decide between catered or ensuite.

Rutland (Nottingham) looks ideal, Catered - single bedroom and shared study with 1 person and shared bathroom (5) So got some extra space £5761.32 . Looked good online but would need to see in person. Although is it 33 weeks so would have to clear out for 4 weeks at Christmas and 4 weeks at Easter. Not sure how much of a pain it will be clearing the room out each time.

Anyone DD/DS done this?

Nard75 · 20/08/2021 17:13

Congratulations to your DS icanbe that is great news. DS1 had vaccine today. We got a letter from NHS yesterday and booked online for appointment today. 2nd appointment was also booked at the same time online.

icanbewhatiwant · 20/08/2021 17:17

@Nard75 we had the letter a couple of days ago but still can't book online. Says he's not eligible for vaccine.

Heifer · 20/08/2021 17:53

Many congrats Icanbe that is great news - well done your DS.

Seeline · 20/08/2021 18:13

@Nard75 We were told it was only one vaccine for my DD, but she is only just 17. Interesting that you could book the second

@Heifer I think it would be a real pain having to clear out every holiday. My DS has so much stuff to transport each time. I suppose if catered they wouldn't have all the cooking equipment, but even so it would be a car full.

Zandathepanda · 20/08/2021 18:32

icanbe congratulations to your Ds!

PaddingtonPaddington · 20/08/2021 18:37
@PaddingtonPaddington assume you know about split ticketing for trains
Is there a website that specifically does this? Now got another trip to Royal Welsh to book also

mummabear74 · 20/08/2021 20:35

@Seeline @Nard75 DD had her jab last Sunday at a local walk in centre. She received a letter yesterday offering her the vaccine which we disregarded as she had already had hers. It did say that they would only be offered one jab at this stage. After your posts I've just had a look on the central online booking system and it's offered a second jab for 10 October (8 weeks from first jab).

whatsnext2 · 20/08/2021 20:49

DD got a text from GP Monday, booked, and had Pfizer Thursday night. Had sore arm this morning but felt gradually worse all day and went to bed early. Mind you most of her classmates have tested positive after Boardmasters which she didn’t go to so could be worse.
