Our drop in clinics have just changed to 16 & above today. So keep checking your local ones.

Fferny1 · 14/08/2021 15:09

Why is your DS only going to apply for two unis Monkey?
Anyone doing Bath tour n stay this weekend? Dd's booked in today. She wanted to cancel after all this week's kerfuffle but I said she couldn't. I'm glad I made her go, because she's cheered up, dressed up, put on her make up & dd1 has driven her down. Dd1 will have a weekend in Bath with her boyfriend.

SandyBayley · 14/08/2021 15:55

@Fferny1 - Monkey's DS was late to decide on medicine so there are only 2 medical schools he can apply to with his A Levels. I can't remember whether it's Biology or Chemistry he's 'missing'. You can only apply to 4 medical schools max.

Fferny1 · 14/08/2021 16:10

Thanks for answering @Sandy. My nephew was in that situation and is now a 5th year medical student at Manchester. Is the other option Cardiff?
The Ukcat sounds as though it's gone well though for you @Monkey.

Zandathepanda · 14/08/2021 16:42

I refreshed the link above and there are now 4 walk-in centres that have just changed to 16+ today near me.

icanbe I can sympathise so much with your predicament. All you can do is research and get advice. Unfortunately having covid or covid vaccinations both have seizures as a very rare side effect. The epilepsy society say it’s difficult to know whether it’s the anxiety of having the vaccination which is the seizure cause as anxiety is often a trigger. All I can offer is that Dd had both vaccines at hospital age 16 (she was not unanxious as she had had some pretty horrible experiences there) and she was fine.

Proggy I can imagine schools will believe anything ‘set in stone’ regarding exams until it is actually taking place. I remember Eton getting into bother for lack of evidence (marked work!) for GCSE TAGs?/CAGs? in 2019. I bet all teachers in all schools are making sure they have lots of evidence of our lot - just in case, again.

ProggyMat · 14/08/2021 17:00

@Zandathepanda I agree. However, whether it’s GAVs, CAGs, TAGs, the next version of them or exams that decide our cohort’s grades isn’t what worries me.
It’s how the universities will react given applications for 2022 places are most likely to be at a record high.

Zandathepanda · 14/08/2021 17:10

Proggy yes I understand. It will be interesting to see just how many deferrals there are. Dd will be taking a gap year in all eventualities so another unknown.

Monkey2001 · 14/08/2021 17:15

@Fferny1, @SandyBayley is right, DS is not doing Chemistry OR Biology as this time last year he was heading towards Engineering.

Sadly Cardiff have dropped their foundation year for people with the wrong A levels, but Newcastle will take any 3 A levels and Manchester still does a foundation year.

Volterra · 14/08/2021 18:22

Good news about the UCAT Monkey

Proggy heard about someone who got no offers. Luckily now landed a good job and applying for 2022 now they have their grades- A and 2 x A*. Guess there will be a fair few more like them.

Last year there wasn't much available for them to do if they defer. More around now for those who do want to defer.

OrangeCinnamonCocktail · 14/08/2021 21:31

Great news @Monkey2001Star
I'm trying my best not to worry about course entry next year.

Surely it is too late to introduce different grades for our lot? Some people are talking about numbers or A** but UCAS is already open and universities have been publishing entry criteria for 22 entry.

Let's try to remember that it is not sector vs sector it is the government and lack of guidance that has caused this inflation.

In doggo news. We went and walked a lovely greyhound and asked to reserve, we saw her twice and everything was ok. 2 hours later I get a phone call saying they don't think we as a family were suitable Dd and I talked about her anxiety and I think they conflated that with her being anxious around dogs (she turned away as age had been taught with her BFA Rottweiler). It was really upsetting especially as they allowed us to reserve her etc. They then offered us unsuitable dogs (concerned how Dd would cope with a jumpy dog then offered us a 'bouncy' dog Confused).
Anyway long story short we tried another kennel after speaking to a few people about their experiences rehoming. Dd walked a lovely boy in kennels not too far from us, there were lessons in commands when walking and doggo was so responsive to her and seemed to like us. Fingers crossed please from all of you that we can bring him home on Tues, passed the home check etc with just a couple of amendments.

So we've been through a bit of a rollercoaster. DH feels like Dd was judged a bit...because she talked about her mental health issues/social anxiety , we were just honest. They were convinced she was scared of the dogs. I was so proud of her walking that greyhound and controlling him when he came across other dogs, horses, bikes etc for the first time.
Anyhow that is my (exciting to me) news and if you could all send fingers crossed good vibes to us that would be lovely.

OrangeCinnamonCocktail · 14/08/2021 21:34

@whoamitojudge forgot to say very well done to your Dd! Getting closer ✈

EwwSprouts · 14/08/2021 22:14

Orange Very exciting news, I am most envious. Sounds like the first rescue doesn't know its arse from its elbow. Everything crossed!

OrangeCinnamonCocktail · 14/08/2021 23:40

Thanks @EwwSprouts!

I must admit to shedding a tear or two. Just felt so terribly 'judged' as parents/family and I really fell in love with the girl

But I could see with the other hound that he would love us so much, and that she would be so good with him...alls well in the end.

Monkey2001 · 15/08/2021 00:13

Oooh, fingers crossed Orange. Is the dog you are going for another greyhound or more of a street dog?

OrangeCinnamonCocktail · 15/08/2021 00:27

Yes @Monkey2001 he is. Totally convinced they are the right breed for us...luckily the kennels agree too. We hope! They have let us reserve h and make an appointment to collect j. Obviously still wary after what happened with the previous kennels but think it will be ok.

Zandathepanda · 15/08/2021 00:33

Orange fingers crossed here for you. Very exciting. We couldn’t have an adult rescue as our existing menagerie may disown us. There was dissent amongst the ranks even with a tiny kitten last time. I am sticking with a one out one in policy now! My monthly pet insurance bill is ridiculous.

icanbewhatiwant · 15/08/2021 06:39

@OrangeCinnamonCocktail great news for you. Life is so much better with a dog (or 2 in our case!) I hear of so many who can't get a rescue because they are not home all day or their fence isn't high enough, or they have a 10 year old (toddler I can understand) etc. The rules seem very strict. I hope it all goes to plan.

Volterra · 15/08/2021 07:24

Fingers firmly crossed Orange. The rescue greyhounds I have known have all been lovely.

I don’t think they will change the grades for our lot though I do thimk change will come once Gav has gone and things settle down hopefully . I think they will go to numbers to create a clear division between Covid amd new system and I think we will see the return of an element of controlled assessment.

Just found DS in kitchen shortly after 6am, hasn’t been able to sleep at all after the jab.

ealingwestmum · 15/08/2021 08:08

This is the one Orange. Good luck with pick up, let us know when doggy is home. Your DD was brilliant to open up. The judging Is the first rescue’s problem and ultimately, their loss.

Monkey2001 · 15/08/2021 08:18

@OrangeCinnamonCocktail do you have a photo of the hound you are happy to share?

OrangeCinnamonCocktail · 15/08/2021 08:37

Thank you all. I'm feeling much better about things. Poor Dd(and I )were only trying to explain why we think a good would be good for our family. Routine and fresh air helps no end, for Dd something to.concentrate on outside of college.

Here is a photo. Apparently, black dogs aren't so popular anymore as not great for the 'insta' we went by personality firstly though. I think the wonderful ladies that run the kennels were quite reluctant to let him go...he was a very loving favourite of theirs. If he looks familiar he is probably related to a black greyhound/tuxedo boy you know. Apparently, his Daddy was a big deal and sired over 4000 offspring Shock.

Good news on the UCAT Monkey

Lovely looking hound Orange

The walk-in vaccine centre I took DD to last week has now been changed to say 16+ so it looks like they are all slowly being updated.

ealingwestmum · 15/08/2021 08:42

Oh my. His eyes. Stunning boy!

blahblahblah321 · 15/08/2021 08:43

I've had a text from a volunteer vaccinator friend to say our local one is now 16+ too
