Hi 👋
I thought it might be nice to have a support thread for us parents? (Can't see one in further Ed yet??)
It's been such a difficult time for our kids - and for us! - but the end is in sight!
Ds will get an e mail at 8.30am (apparently) and can go into college in person if he needs help/advice.
Good luck everyone!

I am a bit tearful here. My fledgling foster was homeless this year and has complex PTSD. They only disclosed their situation late on and are in a shocking state. After all of that has just got into med school.

Iimaginethiswillbefun · 10/08/2021 18:29

@NellietheNumpty that is wonderful.

Longtimenewsee · 10/08/2021 18:30

Hurrah @NellietheNumpty. Fab news .. aww-you are right to be very proud Smile

@user1471428785 yes dd is there, going into second year. Everything seems very bureaucratic and takes time to get a response, with little room for flexibility. She has recently had to choose her optional courses three times before they were accepted, even though she submitted her choices in June. In 2019 it was her insurance choice, she requested to defer but they took until the day before moving in to decline her request. She withdrew and reapplied for 2020. Hybrid learning has never resumed, after October it was all online. However she loves it there, has made a group of international friends, in spite of the restrictions of living in halls last year and difficult home circumstances, and is looking forward to moving into a shared flat in a few weeks' time.

I'm a bit tearful reading that. What an achievement!

@NellietheNumpty that's amazing, congratulations!

NotSorry · 10/08/2021 18:44

Well done to all our wonderful DC - I know my DS got the results he deserved, as did his cohorts

@EmbarrassingMama

Apt screen name

LIZS · 10/08/2021 18:44

@NellietheNumpty that is lovely, well done her!

user1471428785 · 10/08/2021 18:45

@LIZS. Thank you so much for replying and letting me know what to expect. Shocking that your dd was refused being able to defer until the last minute! I’m glad she’s now settled and made some good friends to share with next year. Hoping my dd will settle though she is v anxious

Well done to your foster DC!! I was a LAC as a teenager and have only sat my A levels as a mature student this year as I couldn’t manage in my circumstances at 18. It takes such a strength of character to manage everything your foster has been through and to come out on top and get into med school is absolutely amazing! Also well done you - good foster carers make all the difference and are worth their weigh in gold :)
@OnTheBenchOfDoom oh, and usually they do..?

I take it back. It was clearly harder to succeed this year.
You are of course entitled to your opinion but I think it is shitty to come on to a support thread for results and spread your misery and shit stirring. Idiotic.

NotSorry · 10/08/2021 19:23

agree @Viciouslybashed especially as @EmbarrassingMama has nursery aged children so hasn't a fucking clue what our young people have been through in the last 18 months. Maybe she can come back in 15 years and we can bash her kids.

LIZS · 10/08/2021 19:28

@user1471428785 what is she planning to study? Apparently some departments are better at communication than others.

Viciouslybashed · 10/08/2021 19:28

It's like people cannot stand some people to have good news. It also makes me worry for the poor kids who have not got what they hoped for. It must make them feel awful if they are being fed the line that all grades have been inflated.

Curledupdog · 10/08/2021 19:37

I don't think grade inflation matters atm - it's been such a shit couple of years with no consistency of experience or teaching - nothing was ever going to be fair - not that it ever was! As an internal recruiter we don't look at A level results if they have a degree, we are interested in the recent.

Exactly, all grades have certainly not been inflated, I know students who have not gained predicted and have gone for their back up -how must they be feeling in this media nonsense?

So, finally we have confirmation that DS has a place at Bournemouth. I'm thrilled for him after such a dreadful couple of years.

My baby will be leaving home. My god I'll miss him.

@NellietheNumpty that is bloody wonderful. I'm thrilled for you both

What a day, I'm exhausted Grin so many ups and downs on here. We should be very proud of our young people, whatever their grades. They rock.

at least in 2 days the heat will be off the A-level students - all the nay-sayers will start bashing the GCSE students instead

NotSorry · 10/08/2021 19:41

hooray @ablutiions

you are right, they do rock!

It honestly doesn't matter. Employers will not look on this year any differently - we chose the best candidates, their A level grades after a 3-4 year degree are largely irrelevant.
Viciouslybashed · 10/08/2021 20:01

I hope to see more news footage on Thursday of gcse student opening their envelopes and being really happy.

AnimalCrossingNewHorizons · 10/08/2021 20:02

One of my siblings got her results today. Apparently she was predicted AAB in her first year of college. She got ABC and all the universities she applied to aren’t participating in Clearing.

In her second year of college, she had a different teacher and this teacher was the one who marked her coursework as a B when the previous teacher in her first year marked it as an A. Getting a B in coursework meant that she ended up getting a C instead of her predicted overall B. Is there a way she contest this? She said her college are only letting students less than C contest grades but students with As, Bs and even Cs aren’t allowed to contest it. Is that arguably allowed? Just curious.

AnimalCrossingNewHorizons · 10/08/2021 20:03

Posted too soon, the university she spoke to said that if she had gotten an ABB, they’d have still accepted her so that’s why she’d like to only contest the C grade only.
