@Shimy

That’s formatting all messed up! It’s meant to be the first 3 letters are the A’Level grades, the next 3 numbers are the old UCAS tariff equivalent and the last 3 numbers to the right are the new tariffs. Clear as mud.
😀 I understood after a minute or so! Thank you. EPQ when I looked it up was about 26 or 28 points at A* I think.
FoolsAssassin · 18/07/2021 13:10

DS will be eligible if they do it from 17.9 and we have a CEV person at home. Which helps us but not many many others,

I’m totally out of the loop with everything and have no idea which countries are doing what and how they are all doing .

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 18/07/2021 13:19

Thanks for all the points feedback everyone, very helpful.

Where is the news about the teen vax from?

Zandathepanda · 18/07/2021 14:08

singingstones yep leaving 4 on the UCAS form blank. Shock

But if we get it in early I hope they will give us a yeay/nay soon. She’s deferring a year for medical reasons so that’ll take the pressure off. She can add more for quite a long time as far as I am aware.

Dd1 left 3 blank because only 2 universities she liked did her course. They stated AAB but one (?) offered ABB as she got an A in Year12 at EPQ. She was pretty sure she’d get that but it was a little tense as everything can go wrong on the day (2019 ‘proper’ exams and first year of new syllabuses). She got 2Astars and a B. The B was the one she thought she would most likely get an A in so we had one paper remarked and they missed 8 marks off, which took her well into an A. So she ended up with 2Astars and an A. It seemed a bit excessive to have a remark when she had got into her course so we didn’t apply for the other papers to be remarked too. On results day it’s weird because UCAS tells you if you have been accepted on your course before you know your results from school. Some people that were accepted thought they had done really well then were shocked how low their results were. Others did really well and got marks they never had before (one girl got an A but predicted a D in the subject Dd originally got a B in). She’s a lovely girl and was really happy for her but as a class that subject results were bonkers. The teacher said the class results were almost reversed!

I was completely different in that I did not do well in my A Levels and was desperate to do almost anything and go anywhere by clearing.

Tbh I wouldn’t recommend not using up 5 as a strategy! Just my Dds are very clear what they want. I would say in the past if there is an aspirational course they really want to do then put it down - you never know - especially with humanities. Of course this is slightly different now it may be CAGs or TAGs.

I posted about the 17 and 9 months on the other thread. From August, under 18s and post 2 week double vaccinated will be treated the same for travel and self isolation. If they didn't do that, there would be a cohort of people after their 18th birthday who would have 3 months under a different system of rules until they had been double jabbed
Monkey2001 · 18/07/2021 14:14

...which would add an extra layer of complexity for schools. I am willing to bet there are a lot of frustrated school staff hoping that the Telegraph hot it wrong. Angry

Orangecinnamon21 · 18/07/2021 14:19

Jenrick seemed to be saying good chance of vaccines to Andrew Marr this morning (then again he was also defending Johnson and Javid not isolating)

Thank you Monkey; that makes sense, very helpful. Last few weeks have been really hectic and I keep missing things at the moment which is not good timing as loads seems to happen each week currently !

Zandathepanda · 18/07/2021 20:01

Is anyone’s Year12 still at school tomorrow or are we all broken up/isolating/given up?

stoneysongs · 18/07/2021 20:12

Finished a week ago here.

Tell me, wise people: would I be mad to book a holiday for 2 July 2022? I have DS doing A levels and DD doing GCSEs. According to the govt proposals, they're not changing the timetables, so exams will take place "at the same time as in a typical year". GCSE contingency day in 2019 was 26 June. I want something to look forward to.

Fiddlersgreen · 18/07/2021 20:34

DS broke up last week too.

@singingstones I want to do that too but worried they will push back the exams later on as they seem to change their mind on everything else

I would! DH has just been told he can't have his summer leave from 10th July 2022 - they get fixed rota leave..if there is space they can move to.a different spot, if no space can find someone to swap with...it is a nightmare. Anyway, my point is that if he had been able to book a 10th July spot I would be searching right now.

We broke up a while ago (independent). We were talking about early holidays next year but both schools carry on with various activities after exams and at DS's school there is a big formal Founders Day which there is no way we will want to miss, it is a big day for the U6s.

Piggywaspushed · 18/07/2021 21:05

I'm still at work tomorrow. CBA...

Monkey2001 · 18/07/2021 21:22

Final 2.5 days on line here.

icanbewhatiwant · 18/07/2021 21:52

My ds's finish on Tuesday at midday. Seems pointless going in on Tuesday really, all the buses get called in early to collect them, I bet that goes down well with the bus company.

Then Ds2 starts his summer job 3 days a week. I'm hoping to lift share with the parents of another lad in the village. Otherwise it's 34 mile round trip twice a day. Ds has to be there at 8.30am. He's not a morning person.

20newnames · 18/07/2021 22:18

Still at school until Tuesday here. Can’t wait for it to be over and not have to get up so early!

Zandathepanda · 18/07/2021 22:21

Commiserations for those still in. Hopefully it will be so quiet as everyone avoids isolation.
Dd has a week left but is working (!) from home.

MirandaWest · 18/07/2021 22:53

School goes on until 12:35 on Friday. All online though.

DD gets to do her postponed singing exam tomorrow 😊

Good luck to your DD today Miranda!

ealingwestmum · 19/07/2021 08:18

Well we have survived day one of DD travelling internationally and independently in these strange times. I know that some are anti overseas travel (climate change, covid etc) but her entry visa states for ‘study’, and as an aspiring language student, total immersion is key to her development, for language and cultural growth. And to determine if this is the path she wants, in the absence of uni visits.

It did not come without challenge. The form filling is immense, and whilst the intention is that under 18s have parity with those that have been double vaxxed; the reality is that you are treated differently, at airports, accommodation, entering social venues etc. She has had to produce her proof of vaccine several times in 36 hours alone. So what the Govt thinks and how other countries would prefer from young people are 2 different things.

So today’s news on

Monkey2001 · 19/07/2021 08:40

Good luck to @MirandaWest DD!
