@Piggywaspushed I’m prepared for that! I’m already making plans for trips without any offspring once he goes off to uni next year. Just praying he does not decide on a gap year Grin

icanbewhatiwant · 27/07/2021 21:52

Ds2 doesn't want to come on holiday with us next week. Ds1 would, but is working full time on his summer job. Ds2 did have work 3 days a week, but as I said in an earlier post his lift share has dropped out. So now he can't get to work, he can't go out anywhere as no transport. So he will spend a week at home. He said earlier he can't believe he's stuck at home a whole week. So I said he can still come with us "no that will be too boring" came the reply.

crazycrofter · 27/07/2021 22:51

@icanbewhatiwant we are committed to moving to a small town in the country about 40 mins from here next summer, for work reasons. You’re making me worry about the lack of public transport now! It’s Sod’s law that year 10 ds, who never used to go out, now spends every day with his mates, trekking across the West Mids visiting different gyms/food places/cinemas on his bus pass! I’m starting to worry that he will really hate small town life with one (expensive) bus an hour! I know he will be wanting to go back to Birmingham at every opportunity 😬

Neither of my two are massively excited about family holidays. Dd is particularly miffed that ours clashes with Reading, meaning she can only do one day!

Monkey2001 · 27/07/2021 23:56

I got my 2 DSs to come by bringing DS1's GF and DS2's best friend, which has worked well. The friends are very polite and the DSs can't be too grumpy! I also sorted a 1 week gym membership for them whilst we are away as DS2 and friend usually go to gym every day at home and DS1 was keen to go and had not been since uni gym closed.

Zebracat · 28/07/2021 00:09

We very enthusiastically described our holiday as an isolated cottage with lots of country walks and no WiFi and stoically concealed our disappointment when ours opted out, now busy packing sex toys and gin for a rustic romp!

stoneysongs · 28/07/2021 00:13

Zebra you are a genius 😂

ealingwestmum · 28/07/2021 06:42

(Also admiring the energy...)

EverythingDelegated · 28/07/2021 06:48

Grin ours came along on holiday quite happily, shared a room even though they didn't have to and were good company throughout - seems we missed a trick there!

Orangecinnamon21 · 28/07/2021 07:34

@zebracat...not jealous at all...WinkGrin

We came up to west end of Brecon Beacons last Fri and got stuck in humongous traffic through Wiltshire and Somerset.

We are in a gorgeous cottage which DH booked and for some reason is extremely spacious..we have a room each and a hot tub!

Dd has cried everyday since we got here abput some issue with her boyfriend....it's exhausting. Yesterday she was in a big strop with him because he didn't tell her she looked pretty when she sent him a photo. I keep wondering where I went wrong as.she is extremely.needy, which she admits and has a skewed relationship with self e
Worth. sigh

Been worrying all night about it ( her reactions to stuff, rather than the relationships). She has pockets of happiness that.she just doesn't appreciate, yesterday was magical visited a castle and tearooms, ponies and longhorns etc

Wedding.anniversary today. Me and DH in our separate ensuites..Grin

I’d happily leave Ds at home if I felt he could be trusted to be sensible. Sadly not...

Yes true, illicit parties are my worst nightmare. Not least because of the inevitable mess...one of the nice things about being on holiday is less clutter and household mess!

We left ds and dd home alone when we were away for a couple of nights but I'm not sure I'd trust them for a whole week: although that's more about the inevitable mess and the danger they'd eat nothing but ramen and biscuits for 7 days ;-) Luckily, our two are still (just!) happy to come away with us, on the proviso I only make them do one educational or physical activity every 2 days or so and allow plenty of bed-wallowing ...

icanbewhatiwant · 28/07/2021 14:49

Yes I'm worried about parties. But both ds's are tell tales, so I think will report back if the other has party ideas. Though they might both get in on it together. I don't trust them with the dogs...they'll forget to let them out or leave a door open or something. The pup is only 18 months old so needs to be kept occupied. The older one would have been fine at home. She'd sleep all the time...she'd probably hold her bladder 24 hours too, she avoids going in the garden if it rains.

@crazycrofter we used to live on a farm about a mile and half away from here. Until DH retired. When we lived there the boys could literally go no where. We had no children nearby, the road was single track with lots of bends so I wasn't keen on them cycling either. We have now moved nearer the centre of the village. The boys can walk to the shop (small village shop) there is a recreation field with a few swings etc. mine are too old for swings but ds2 does meet a few friends there to play football. Though there aren't many dc's in the village. But it feels a lot less rural than where we were. There is a bus a couple of times a day, but it takes an hour and 40 mins to do a journey I can drive in 30. So the boys wouldn't get the bus. I can drive them to the train station. Ds1 is at university in Norwich. I thought after city life he wouldn't want to live where we do. But he says he prefers country life. But I'm sure ds2 will prefer city life.

DD (who is 18 in October) had her vaccination earlier today!

Sorry, just wanted to share Smile

Piggywaspushed · 28/07/2021 16:42

I thought you were talking about your older DD there ican. I didn't twig until I got confused by gardens and rain...

That’s good news whoamitojudge.

whoamitojudge · 28/07/2021 17:33

@FoolsAssassin
She’s very happy but got a bit freaked out when the nurse was telling her about the potential side effects.
We had a Starbucks afterwards which took her mind off it Grin

Decorhate · 28/07/2021 18:26

Ds is coming with us but now travelling separately. So much potential for things to go wrong. He has never flown on his own before (though has done the route with us dozens of times). He will need to be responsible for getting his PCR test done, checking in online, getting to the airport etc.

Seeline · 29/07/2021 08:59

My DSis and I were left alone for 2 weeks when we were 15 and 17! We got back from a youth camp the day my parents left so didn't even meet up in the middle - 4 weeks without seeing them. WE didn't really have a close relationship with neighbours, and no family nearby. 80 year old granny was to ring us once a week so that we were looked after! 30 years ago so no mobiles - I don't remember our parents even phoning the landline!

And yes- of course we had a party Grin

Very pleased that both ours (16 and 19) were happy to come to Norfolk for a week with us.

Oblomov21 · 29/07/2021 11:23

On our last visit to our Dorset caravan Ds1 came home early and was home alone for 3 nights. I trust him implicitly. He's very sensible.

He's got a job at screwfix Saturday and Sunday's. He's just been offered 3 late afternoons at our local sainsbury, fixed contract only till January 2022.

Tomorrow he is picking up his girlfriend and driving her in his car, from Surrey to Dorset, where they are staying with us for 9 days. The beds in our caravan are huge and incredibly comfy. But Ds1 and girlfriend will be in a closed off 'pod' within the humongous awning, blow up mattress and double duvet.

Life feels like it's changing. Growing up.

Ds2 and I will be in my car. Dh is already down there, because He had tonnes of holiday that he would've lost if he didn't take it. Ds2 was supposed to have a friend coming for 3 days, but they rang yesterday to say he's got covid. Sad

Ds1 is going for his 2nd fasting blood test, so that I can try and get him his 2nd Prescription for Roaccutane. I'll ring the consultants secretary tomorrow.

Oblomov21 · 29/07/2021 11:31

Pleased for judge.

When I get back from Dorset I'm going to ask GP re Ds1 vaccine. 17.9? He's not 18 till Feb, so does that mean he's not 17.9 till October?

but I'll see what she says. Because I'm type 1 and Dh is type 2, I can claim CV, but not CEV, which gets my goat because Chris Whitty has twice mentioned Diabetics Type 1 being more vulnerable that they are given credit for.

EverythingDelegated · 29/07/2021 11:41

Diabetes was right up the list when they sent out the second round of shielding letters wasn't it? DH (type 1) didn't get one, but it seems it depended on your other risk factors too. DS got the jab due to his own CV condition but we'd be in the same boat otherwise, many of my friends DC are also 18 in Jan/Feb (we all met at NCT, baby groups etc) but no one has managed to get jabs for them yet either even when parents are CV.

FoolsAssassin · 29/07/2021 12:30

DH is T1 and got shielding letter in round 2. I tried to say about that when I rang walk in centres recently but they weren’t interested .
Really lucky DS wasn’t able to have it done when we took DD for hers as he has had bloods recently as not been feeling right and he’s actually not at all well. I think really we need to get new medication in his system and balanced before having the vaccine. Poor lad must have been feeling incredibly rough.

FedNlanders · 29/07/2021 12:30

We just did 2 weeks away with our year 13 and year 11 kids, also have 2 younger ones....never again for 2 weeks!
