We found out yesterday that DD who will be 18 in October can have her vaccine.
She is going tomorrow. 👍

Piggywaspushed · 25/07/2021 14:15

South Wales is an odd place....

Could I ask what sort of place she is going to?
ChristopherTracy · 25/07/2021 14:38

Yep. DS has his first jab this week and he is 18 in a few months. So pleased! They did it at his workplace.

Seeline · 25/07/2021 14:45

So jealous of those getting jabs. DD is only 17 at the end of this week so won't be covered for exam season and barely covered when she starts uni ☹️

whoamitojudge · 25/07/2021 15:26

@FoolsAssassin

There is a vaccination centre in our town so she is going there.
Both DH and I had ours there too

FoolsAssassin · 25/07/2021 15:28

Thank you WhoamItojudge, I'll keep on looking.

whoamitojudge · 25/07/2021 15:35

@FoolsAssassin

Whereabouts are you?

Piggywaspushed · 25/07/2021 15:46

Cwmbran especially

Oh yes!!

FoolsAssassin · 25/07/2021 16:39

We’re in Dorset.

NCTDN · 25/07/2021 17:17

Our local vaccination centre is taking 16+ now.

whoamitojudge · 25/07/2021 17:18

@FoolsAssassin

We are in Kent, Hope you find something soon

ProggyMat · 25/07/2021 17:33

@Alsoplayspiccolo I’m in a similar position to you
Said goodbye to DD this morning at train station and 350 miles later she’s just arrived at her course
Prep for Uni commences - particularly negotiating how the ten tonne suitcase that needed to be lugged on and off several changes of transport
That’s not to mention the ‘handbag’ …

Monkey2001 · 25/07/2021 17:33

How are you all finding out about vaccine eligibility in your area?! Are the ones doing people under 17.75 all in South East?

Piggywaspushed · 25/07/2021 17:42

also I may be over invested in your DD, but have you considered Winchester?

MirandaWest · 25/07/2021 18:47

@Shimy I live about 10 minutes away from the main York campus, studied there in the 90s and know it quite well if you have any other questions about it.

The secondary campus has been there about 10 years now - is looking better now as it looked a bit stark at first. It is still growing though.

Am not so useful about courses but know a bit.

Shimy · 25/07/2021 18:50

@MirandaWest Thanks, very kind of you, I'll remember that.

NCTDN · 25/07/2021 19:08

@Monkey2001 we're in the north west.

ealingwestmum · 25/07/2021 19:58

I know there is a separate Oxbridge thread, but in case some of you have DC that 1) haven’t quite committed to all their options yet, 2) possibly have bandwidth to consider an essay submission in next week or so 3) interested in a subject that hasn’t a closed submission date 4) not doing an EPQ like mine so may want to generate a talking point etc etc!

Seriously, know some haven’t posted on other uni threads yet so just an fyi...

Piggywaspushed · 25/07/2021 20:10

Oh , thanks! DS has a sociology essay comp to do but he might give this a go too! He likes essays...

stoneysongs · 25/07/2021 21:05

Also, are Exeter / Bristol etc out of reach because of the grades your DD is likely to achieve or because of the grades she's likely to be predicted? DS is sitting on BCD at the moment, which would rule out all of his choices (or anywhere actually), but he is studying over the summer and will try to persuade his teachers that he can do better. They know he's had a tough time in Y12, his GCSEs were good, and he'll show them what he's been doing in the holidays as evidence of his determination.
(Then of course he has to get the actual grades but first step is predictions.) Not sure it'll work, but that's the plan at the moment. Your DD's GCSEs were good, weren't they? And she has good reason to have dropped back a bit this year, would they reconsider her predictions or do you think it's just too much at the moment?

Shimy · 25/07/2021 21:10

Has anyone seen the thread 'Exams 2021'? basically, it's a campaign to get all GCSE and A'levels grades for this yr bumped up a grade due to the supposed unreliability of the TAGs. Personally, I think it's a bonkers idea, ideological and short-sighted but wondered whether there were any takers here.

EwwSprouts · 25/07/2021 21:24

Shimy
Agree bonkers. It makes no difference to where anyone sits in the cohort relative to others.

Shimy · 25/07/2021 21:38

May as well just mandate all universities to give unconditional offers, job done!
