Yay TheFirst that's great news!

Congrats to your son TheFirst! We are still coaxing DD into booking her first lesson. DD2 has her first one booked!

KingscoteStaff · 20/07/2019 12:13

Well done all those drivers - not even a lesson here yet...

TheFirstOHN · 20/07/2019 13:46

He did his theory test at the end of the summer after Y12; if he hadn't passed the practical this summer then the theory certificate would have expired and he would have had to start all over again. So we are all quite relieved he has done it.

Knotaknitter · 20/07/2019 14:18

Congratulations TheFirst, it would have been a shame to let the theory part expire so he's done well there.

ShanghaiDiva · 21/07/2019 14:37

Congratulations to your ds First!
No lessons here yet either...

Knotaknitter · 23/07/2019 09:16

The talk about driving lessons reminded me to ring and have DS added to my car insurance now he's back (the very last of his washing is on the line now). I was pleasantly surprised, under £200 to add him from now until the end of September and I can ring and have his name taken off when he goes back and get a refund.

PandaG · 23/07/2019 09:33

Good to find you all! To answer previous questions - DS has had a ball this year. Worked hard, played moderately hard, settled in a church and volunteered there ( both important to him) dealt with being let down on sharing accommodation next year and therefore made more friends who are more like him rather than conveniently on his staircase. He has coped really well with finances - and has saved money this year, as well as buying a whizzy new laptop out of his scholarship.

He was home for a week, then went on a 700k bike tour for 11 nights, visiting new friends, spending 3 nights with grandparents, and going back to Cambridge twice! I think this will be the last summer we have him home for a long time, he started a paid internship yesterday for 8 weeks, but I get the impression ext year he will try to find work in his university city. He just loves being there!

Have been catching up on thread. Name changed used to be violets.
Glad to hear all's well now Starfleet. Love that outfit marmite. Googled the shoe company, they looked so nice.
Can't find post but think your DS passed driving test thefirstohn - well done! Aids freedom.
Also everyone seems to have done well who went to uni.
See you on other thread panda- but how active and resilient your DS seems to be.
My DD mostly enjoyed uni. Did okay at end of year but below what she was achieving in coursework which is a blow as she worked so hard. Insomnia before exams didn't help. Now she is in HK, working very hard but having lots of fun. But mum at home (me) is dead scared about troubles there. Fingers crossed she is successful in avoiding it.
Have a good summer all. FlowersSmileSmile

DS got back yesterday from Truck Festival and has been catching up on his sleep. He now has the job of getting all his laundry done before he comes away with us next week.

It might be the last time he joins us for our family holiday (but I also said that last year and the year before).

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/07/2019 20:02

DDS placement is going well. You can't beat work experience or your first pay check. It's lovely to see her enjoying it.

OYBBK I'm glad she is liking it.

Knotaknitter · 30/07/2019 21:49

We're doing ok, DS is cooking a couple of times a week and not moaning about it (yet). He made a poor job of clearing up after the popcorn blower had a whoopsie, I pointed out that it was the sort of half baked attempt that SlackerFlatmate might have done and he made a proper job of it. He's washing dishes and doing chores that he would previously just ignored so self catering has had some lasting effects. I hope that they last anyway.

Sunndowne · 31/07/2019 12:06

A DS doing the dishes! Good news. Still have to cajole mine recently graduated.and my DD who was a tody child now leaves clutter everywhere she moves!!!!
Have to love 'em don't ya or it would very annoying. Allow myself a bit of annoyance!
Well done to DD OYBBK.
Smile

Sunndowne · 31/07/2019 12:06

Haha. She was tidy! Not today - a slip!

Sunndowne · 31/07/2019 12:07

On my phone travelling- causes a few typos etc.

ShanghaiDiva · 01/08/2019 05:44

August already - ds is still working in Austria, but home on 31st. Will be great as I have not seen him since beginning of May.
dd goes back to school on 12th August so we are enjoying the last week or so of the holidays, but not outside as it is over 40 degrees here and horribly humid.

UrsulaPandress · 01/08/2019 14:04

You'd slipped off my TIO again.

Summer is limping along.

Had a huge incident with the dog which has floored me rather and DH needs major surgery so we had to cancel our European trip. Rain is incessant at the moment but I have found a newt in my pond. Hurrah.

DD is struggling with being at home. I think she is missing having her mates around all the time. Sadly this does not reflect in any time filling activities such as washing up, tidying her room or relinquishing all the cups that are hiding.

TapasForTwo · 01/08/2019 20:25

I have added this to threads I'm watching so I don't lose it.

I think a lot of students miss having friends on tap all the time when they come home. Interestingly DD's BF spent far more time at home than he originally planned because all but one of his university friends had jobs at home for the summer so there was only one other person left at his flat to socialise with.

DD has had a horrible stomach bug all week. She gave me such a fright that a call to 111 resulted in a visit to A and E in the early hours of Monday morning. She is still feeling under the weather.

Bronzegate · 01/08/2019 21:28

TapasForTwo
Hope she feels a bit stronger soon.

UrsulaPandress
Sorry to hear that you have a lot on your plate at the moment (and that you had to cancel your holiday).

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/08/2019 21:37

That sounds scary Tapas I'm glad she's on the mend.

Ursula That's rotten all round. I'm sorry about your holiday.

dd has a rotten throat infection. Running a high temp tonight. Fingers crossed she's better for her holiday next week.

TapasForTwo · 01/08/2019 22:01

I posted too early. Sorry to hear about the dog Ursula, and I hope your husband's surgery is a success.

I hope your DD feels better soon Kitten

I hope that no-one has been adversely affected by the weather. I feel for everyone evacuated from their homes in Whaley Bridge.

Sunndowne · 02/08/2019 18:45

Hope all with health issues/operations are on mend soon.
Heard from a friend that her little girl had a really bad tummy bug which passed around the family. Think there is a bug about.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/08/2019 22:49

Just thinking back to this time last year after reading the threads in 'Higher', for those of us whose dc did the a level result it was us biting our fingernails nervously. It seems so long ago now!

OP posts:
HesMyLobster · 14/08/2019 23:44

I still get that butterfly feeling whenever I think about results day or anybody mentions it! Even though we have nobody in the house expecting any this year.
Thinking of all the dcs (and mums) having a sleepless night tonight.
It is strange thinking about this time last year - feels simultaneously so long ago, and also like yesterday. So much has happened since - what a year!
