DD had her first exam on Monday. Hers are really spread out. Her last is on the second to last day of the exam period on the 23rd May.
It means she has plenty of revision time but she is a bit at sea without any structure.

bruffin · 01/05/2019 18:04

Hardwicke
She has to do placements, i think its 1000 hours over the 3 years, they get marked on those as well as coruse work
She was sent a case study last week and had to do a 20 minute presentation and 10 minute Q&A on it this week.
She will be on a stroke ward for next 6 weeks.
The university insisted they had at least one exam in the course so they got it over and done with in first term.

raspberryrippleicecream · 01/05/2019 21:30

DD had her first exam on Monday, she has one next week and one the week after. She has to be out of halls at the beginning of June, I think she will be there until the end.

She has done nothing about anywhere to live next year, except for planning to share with 2 others.

DS1 started his third year exams today. GCSEs loom ever closer for DS2. This is my 7th year running of GCSE/AS/A level exams and the novelty has worn off!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/05/2019 21:39

dds exams are at the end of this month and the beginning of June.
I bet it has worn off Raspberry!

ds has not started exams yet. I think the first one is 13th May and the last is mid June. This third term seem spectacularly unproductive - two revision lectures and seven exams - that's it. Am sure I had lectures and seminars in term three and exams right at the end, but it was over thirty years ago...

TapasForTwo · 02/05/2019 07:19

That's a lot of exams Shanghai. None of DD's friends have as many as that. Her BF has had a couple of exams and has one later this month. Then on to more drinking and partying than ever. Not that revision and exams ever got in the way. He doesn't have a 100% pass rate so far. Some people never learn.

marmiteloversunite · 02/05/2019 08:08

Raspberry we are in GCSE hell here too!

DD1 has had two French exams and had one more to go. French was an extra option that she had to do and she has struggled with it. Will be very glad when it's done.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/05/2019 09:00

I really feel for you with GCSEs. What a stressful slog it is.

I thought seven was quite low. Am clearly completely out of touch with university life!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/05/2019 15:30

dd has four three hour exams.

TheFirstOHN · 04/05/2019 10:08

DS1 only has one exam, plus one piece of coursework still to complete.

The new job is going well (no further famous customers though), he has resumed driving lessons and is going to the gym most days.

Daisiesarenotflowers · 05/05/2019 19:59

DS has 6 exams finishing mid June. I spoke to him earlier today and am a bit worried he sounded very 'flat', I think that in his halls everyone's been working hard this week quite individually, so he's a bit lonely. Also at the moment he's lost some of his original fondness for his uni as there's a lot of talk on campus about a serious incident being handled badly by uni leadership. Anyone else with DC in a slightly low mood at the moment?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/05/2019 20:54

dd has been a bit low - revision related.

OP posts:
TheFirstOHN · 05/05/2019 21:11

Sorry to hear that some of your DCs are feeling low. Could exam pressure be contributing?

I feel a bit bad now, because DS1 is as well as I've ever seen him. He likes this job more than the previous one; the regular exercise is having a positive effect; he is enjoying catching up with friends back home and I often see him studying.

MsAwesomeDragon · 05/05/2019 21:28

It's a shame si many are feeling low with exams.

I'm quite glad dd isn't doing her exams this year, although actually exams don't really bother her, it would only have been the Italian exams that would have stressed her out.
DD seems to be doing reasonably well in recovering from her anxiety/depression. She's taking her tablets every day and seems more capable of dealing with everyday things. She's been on holiday with friends, which was rather less enjoyable than it could have been due to 2 of the friend she was with dragging on a break up over the week they were away. It would have been crap for anyone to be in the middle of that. It's not put her off going away though, she's away camping art the minute with one of her uni societies. They do a lot of weekends away camping in the summer months so DD has organised lifts and arranged to borrow our car for weekends to join them. She even arranged herself a driving lesson to practice motorway driving as she'll need to go on motorways for these trips and had never done more than pootling around town before. She's planning on practicing with our car over the next few days (after I come home from work) and then heading off on a solo trip 2 hours away on Friday night for the weekend. I don't think I've ever seen her this motivated.

She's only just had the assessment meeting for CBT though, and they haven't even given h her an indication of how long it will take to get her first appointment Hmm. So she still can't deal with making phone calls or doing more than the minimum of self care as that just send pointless, whereas holidays and camping trips are exciting and motivating. I'm hoping she can start doing bits of housework over the next week or so, even if it's as simple as bringing the rubbish out of her bedroom or doing her own washing. If she's well enough to do the nice things then she's well enough to contribute to the running of our household.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/05/2019 21:44

That's really good to hear TheFirst

MrsAD your dd has come a long way in such a short space of time. The driving and camping sound brilliant. She will get there with the self care.

Sorry to hear your DD is feeling the pressure too kitten. I think for mine it is largely due to exam pressure; he's finding uni maths is harder than school maths (both hard for me Confused). DS says that he's okay really though, just tired. Hope exam time goes well for them all and that afterwards there can be a bit of relaxing!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/05/2019 22:06

That's a lovely hope :)

I think dds ok today she puts a massive amount of pressure on herself and so do her college. Today's timed paper went well, so it's very related to how the revision is going.

OP posts:
Nettleskeins · 06/05/2019 00:23

MrsAD that is really good news about your dd; it does sound as if she feels so much more confident and positive when she is [literally] in the driving seat and not at the mercy of plans which are foisted on her (Italian] That is lovely news. CBT may be a dead end anyway, for some people it just doesn't work, occasionally being busy and doing other stuff just makes the depression seem like a bad dream, it is difficult to look back and remind yourself of a time when you felt anxious - thinking of it might make you feel anxious again Confused

First also great news about your ds

ds1 is back brieflly, in very good form, although worrying about earwax and earache and the fact that his dinner jacket is too large now. He gobbled up some chicken soup, reluctantly accepted hugs, thanked me for making his bed up and has disappeared back into Line of Duty land. One more task before this term is finished, a review of a classical concert, so he is going back again on Tuesday. Had to force him to take off his anorak indoors. He is definitely becoming a very stylish "anorak" as he wears it at all times, and never any thing warm and woolly...apart from a white teeshirt..

The dog is doing well.

Kitten hope dd feels happier soon, I think it is alright to have ups and downs this term, ds certainly has had some in the last few weeks, worrying about deadlines. It is just such a relief that it isn't so make or break as last year.

ShanghaiDiva · 06/05/2019 02:16

Mrs AD - glad to hear that your daughter is making good progress :)
Kitten - good news that the timed paper went well.
Ds leaves tomorrow to go back to the UK. We will not see him again until September as he will go straight from the UK to Austria for work so am feeling a bit down today.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/05/2019 08:52

Flowers shanghai. Thank goodness we have facetime and the like now, even if it's not the same.

Good to hear about the dog Nettle Grin It sounds like your ds is going to enjoy his break.

dd avoided the annual Cambridge pre revision giant piss up in the park, with the police and the daily mail in attendance. Lots of stern emails were sent by the college warning people of dire consequences if they let the college down. For an ancient place of learning Wink it sure has its wilder side.

She will be ok once she's through the exams and she is still doing enjoyable stuff. Its just a bit of an anxious time.

Been away and you'd dropped off my TIO.

TapasForTwo · 07/05/2019 06:35

Good luck to everyone's DC doing exams. DD didn't get the job. Another shop rang her yesterday with the intention to interview her, but once they found out she intends to only work until she goes to university they said that they had enough students and were looking for something longer term.

This is probably why her job search is so unsuccessful. I have suggested that she looks at the more touristy places nearby where they take on summer temps instead.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/05/2019 06:50

That's a bummer Tapas.
Does she need to disclose how long she is going to work for? But looking at touristy places is a good idea.

OP posts:
TapasForTwo · 07/05/2019 07:12

The shop yesterday asked her the specific question, so she couldn't really lie. Unfortunately the touristy places don't have public transport links so DD would have to rely on lifts.
