:)

I think we've all learned here, that the most important thing is that our dc are happy and healthy. Grades aren't important other than as a means to an end. They don't define our dc.

It's quite scary that it isn't that long until the end of the first year. Confused For those at uni, what do their next terms look like?
For those not at uni, what do the next couple of months look like?

dd goes back after straight Easter, then I think it's 6 weeks to exams. They still have lectures in the run up and begin their computing project. They have 4 3 hour papers and that's what this years classification is based on. After that it's a mix of chilling, garden parties and computing before term ends.

DS1 is basically back home now until September.
He has two assignments to complete which can be done from home.
He has one exam to sit in May which has to be done in person; he'll go back up the day before and stay the night.
Then hopefully he will look for some temporary work for 3 months.

Nettleskeins · 13/04/2019 21:32

ds1 finishes in first week of May. But his accommodation runs until end of June.
He is home now, discussing summer/coursework matters with us. In his own inimitable way.Grin
There was an emergency dentist appointment thrown in too, no appts at uni recommended dentist for two weeks, so he came home to organise (us to organise) that. He broke his tooth on a chocolate chip he says.
We have been watching the very first episode of the Sopranos. I've never seen it before and neither had the dses. Dd had a busy day supervising the dog with a friend of hers who also has a small newish dog. She declared our dog was very well behaved and much more independent/came back when called etc. But had short legs. boo hoo.
Ds2 and I have been at Reading football stadium surrounded by football junkies like ds2. I clapped the wrong team at one point. oh dear. River Thames from the Train was lovely.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/04/2019 21:41

It's amazing how different every place is. dd pointed out that at her uni they don't go back until the end of September.

Short legged dogs and clapping at the wrong team are very funny Grin Ive been bogged with IT stuff today and dd has been doing past papers, so not so fun. But we did book our holiday. So that's good.

I went to collect dd from university last Friday. I was going to my mum's first (she lives in the same city) but I couldn't get an answer even though she was expecting me.
As I didn't have a key we had to get the police to get into her flat. They discovered that she had collapsed in the shower and she died in hospital the next day without recovering consciousness.
Dh came up to take dd home while I stayed there. They all came back for the funeral on Thursday. I am now home but it all still seems rather unreal.
I keep feeling that some crisis has happened and I need to phone my mum to talk it over, only she was the crisis.

I'm so so sorry NoHaudin :( What an awful shock for you. Flowers

NoHaudin so sorry to hear this. You might find yourself feeling a bit unreal and numb until you're able to process it.

ShanghaiDiva · 14/04/2019 13:54

NoHaudin - what an awful shock for you. Totally understandable that you are still trying to process what has happened.

ShanghaiDiva · 14/04/2019 13:58

Re final term - ds doesn't have any new material for term 3 - just a few revision lectures and exams - seven in total I think.
He flies back to the UK on 7th May, term finishes on 28th June, but his exams finish before then. He is going to spend some time with my mum before he flies to Austria to start work second week in July. I think he will come back to China in September for a couple of weeks before year 2 starts.

marmiteloversunite · 14/04/2019 15:29

NoHaudin I was so sorry to read your post. You are definitely in shock. My Dad died on Boxing day but it still doesn't feel like he has actually gone. Don't know when it will sink in. Look after yourself!

Nettleskeins · 14/04/2019 15:33

Haudin short of living with your mum 24 hours a day, there is nothing you could have done to prevent it. My aunt died of a cardiac arrest in a room full of people - her children still feel that there was something else they could have done (there was nothing), but it is so so hard when you feel that you weren't there. I am glad dd was in the same city for at least the last six months and you were able to share that part of her life with your mother. what a terrible shock, it wasn't meant to be like this.Sad

Knotaknitter · 14/04/2019 23:01

NoHaudin I am so very sorry. The numbness will get you through the next weeks or months, it's common after a sudden death. You feel the way you feel, there is no "right" way, it is just what it is.

NoHaudinMaWheest · 14/04/2019 23:32

Thank you for your kind thoughts.
It was okish when I was in my mum's flat with my siblings. Now I am home I feel very disorientated.

Hardwickwhite · 15/04/2019 06:34

NoHaudin I am so sorry to hear your news.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/04/2019 07:17

I'm not surprised NoHaudin, it's a massive thing to happen in your life.

Nothauden Sorry to hear about your Mum, mine died 4 years ago and i still eant to call her up with news etc.

I was on the thread getting to uni.
DD is loving Cardiff and now says Lush and watches rugby down the pub.
Her course only has one exam in the 3 years, which is over and done with.
She had a first placement in a medium secure mental health unit where she learnt to crochetGrin
Home for easter and then another placement in neurology
Then she is going back to Camp America for the summer.

starfleet · 15/04/2019 14:14

NoHaudin - I'm so sorry for your loss.

You dropped off my tio, so sorry I haven't been on much recently. I agree that this is a very friendly thread, no competitiveness and we're all very supportive of everybody's problems while being thrilled with each others success.

Marmite are you finished now? I hope you're doing something nice to celebrate.

Tapas thanks for asking how DD is. She still has good days and bad days, but there are starting to be more good days now apparently. It's really hard getting her some CBT. She can't make phone calls, but they also won't talk to me unless she's given permission on the phone! All I want to do is make an appointment for her to go and speak to someone face to face. It was so much easier when she was younger and people would just talk to me as her parent. And the mh team don't just let you make an appointment by phoning, they ring you back to make the appointment, which is a right faff now I'm back at work after the holidays and obviously can't have my phone on. Think we might manage to get her first appointment the week after next. She's away on holiday with some uni friends next week, which I'm in 2 minds about. On one hand it's good that she's planning on going and having fun, on the other hand I'm concerned that she won't cope and that will be a lot of pressure/responsibility for her friends who won't know what to do with her. She's going though, so I just have to hope she manages ok.

marmiteloversunite · 15/04/2019 18:37

I finished today!!
Went for afternoon tea with DH which was a lovely gift from a friend.

As a uniboober I was amused by one of my cakes!! Grin

TheFirstOHN · 15/04/2019 19:29

marmite that's great that you have completed the treatment.

MsAwesomeDragon I'm glad to hear she is having some good days, although it sounds frustrating trying to communicate with the MH services.

ShanghaiDiva · 16/04/2019 00:27

Great news Marmite. Love that cake!

starfleet · 16/04/2019 07:19

starfleet · 16/04/2019 07:20
