I have a Cavapoo Nettles (most hated dogs on mumsnet) and when she was little she used to dance up to everyone on her back legs. It was like having some kind of crazy circus performer! Very embarrassing, especially when she ran out of steam and landed her muddy front paws on the strangers trousers!

Knotaknitter · 01/03/2019 21:15

You can take your dogs to Travelodge - I did not know this. There is a cleaning fee but it's not huge. Sadly there did not seem to be any dogs staying in UniCity yesterday but on the plus side there were no hen parties either.

DS has sorted out his oft declined bank card and booked his accommodation for next year. It's amazing what gets done when Mr Procrastination has his mother visiting for the day.

Nettleskeins · 02/03/2019 14:46

little T (our dog) would be very good in a circus. He is very clever, and has already created a sort of circuit for himself which consists of delibarately knocking over an empty dogbasket, landing on a cushion, and then catapulting himself into his crate. We are having to work very hard to stop him standing on his hindlegs to get treats, I've told dd always to come down to his level before offering, I can see it is a tendency for littler dogs to stretch and worse still "snap" at dangling fingers all the time.
knot I dont think the Travellodge will want him at present.Hmm

okay enough dog talk Blush...it is a bit worrying that I know more about the dog than my own ds1

TheFirstOHN · 02/03/2019 21:27

I thought I'd lost you all, but managed to find the thread again.

DS1 has just been home for reading week - it was lovely to see him but I am looking forward to getting my house back (he eats all the food and leaves his stuff everywhere).

LoniceraJaponica · 03/03/2019 12:27

Just seen this on the WIWIKAU page. I think some of the DC on here are at Liverpool.

DS is at Liverpool.

He said there was an outbreak of mumps quite early on in the academic year too just as they'd started - a few weeks into the first term. I think from what I can remember they were all given advice leaflets in his halls.

TheFirstOHN · 04/03/2019 17:05

Yes, they had a mumps outbreak in Oct 2018.

UrsulaPandress · 06/03/2019 18:12

That one must have passed DD by. I sent her the screenshot about this one and she asked if she was vaccinated. As did DH. .

Bizarrely dd has got a new squeeze but he is not at the University. He has a job. And earns proper money. He does day release fir his qualifications. I am slightly horrified as he is apparently lactose intolerant. I’m a feeder. Her last boyfriend loved me for my food. Don’t know where to start with that.

My laptop was once used for a big works presentation. The presenter clicked the wrong link and the enormous screen suddenly went back to my homepage which had all my saved searches down the side. The one that stood out was ‘how do I stop my Springer puppy from biting?’ I quite miss those days now I have a geriatric Spangle with a metal leg joint.

Knotaknitter · 06/03/2019 23:20

Ursula Did the bionic dog make a good recovery? I think the last I heard he was confined to cage rest.

UrsulaPandress · 07/03/2019 04:39

He is at week 8 of his recovery plan. Should be having two on lead walks of 40 minutes per day but he disgraced himself by jumping off his ramp whilst exiting my car. I was holding his collar at the time. I was so angry with him after all the time and money I've invested in him that I really really shouted at him. I took him to the vets the next day as he seemed very lack lustre and asked if he could be depressed because of my anger. The vet laughed at me Hmm. Turns out he's hurt his back presumably as I was holding his collar so he twisted. Fortunately I had pain killers left so he's back on those and limited walks again.

Anyway. Must get some kip as off my smear in the morning. I've been putting it off due to other health issues.

Hope your ds is thriving knitting.

Nettleskeins · 08/03/2019 16:24

I'm investigating Raw Diet for dogs. Dpup very happy, but it is like having a toddler in the house, the decisions....about their welfare...but then in a way, very simple too. naps, exercise, a bit of common sense. A lots of opinions out there to bat away, but advice to take heed of too from experienced toddler owners. We've started puppy training classes. "No playing allowed!"

UrsulaPandress · 08/03/2019 16:30

We hated puppy training. It was a joyless experience.

Nettleskeins · 08/03/2019 19:39

our class emphasises the bond between dog and human. Grin She also grilled us on why we had picked the breed we had, (six puppies of varying ethnicities) and gave the golden retriever owners (a young urban twenty something couple she clearly considered deluded) the long hard stare.

UrsulaPandress · 08/03/2019 20:27

BastardSpaniel had an excitement Pooh in the middle of the Hall. And the trainer wouldn’t let dd and I share the handling. I was just recovering from breaking my calcanium and dd was only 8 so we wanted to take it in turns. Big no no.

UrsulaPandress · 08/03/2019 20:28

Ant there were about 20 puppies. Two were his brother and sister. It was bloody chaos.

Hardwickwhite · 10/03/2019 15:29

So, DD did not get one of the uni owned flats. They have a complicated lottery system for allocation, and by the time they got to choose, the one they wanted was taken, another had disappeared from the list, and the one left was too grim, so they will be looking privately. I am nervous about her looking with just one other person, but that other person is less keen on a big flat share than DD, so they are going to have a think and a talk about it.

Meanwhile, DH and I have been mulling over using our savings to put a deposit on a buy to let for her. We are hesitating, because we have had bad luck with property before, and DHs work is far from certain, so using our safety net might not be the best idea. Plus of course we have other DC, who will be heading to uni in the coming couple of years too. Lots to think about! Has anyone else considered it?

She has her final exam dates already, and will be done for the summer by early May! We had hoped she would spend most of the Easter holidays with is, but suspect now that she may have her head in study. We'll be nearby her though, so even if she doesn't spend the whole time with us, hopefully she will be able to visit for a couple of days.

TheFirstOHN · 10/03/2019 15:39

After the Easter holidays, DS1 only has one week of lectures / seminars. Then a gap, then one exam!

catndogslife · 10/03/2019 18:25

When ddog did his beginners training, it was limited to 8 dogs in a class. 20 is far too many.
They didn't mind the odd accident either.
dd has been neutered and is still recovering from surgery last week. Cone of shame being worn. Not sure if he understands why.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/03/2019 21:28

Does your ds have anything else TheFirst?

dd is home the week after next until just after the Easter weekend. She's got a lot of work planned I think, revision and preparing for next term. Next term goes on until mid June, with a few weeks of lectures, a project and then exams.

Dd wafted through for a few minutes on her way to a Rave in Leeds. She danced (or whatever the word is) for 9 hours. Then spent the night with some lads they met on the girls holiday in Malia who are at University there. She is off to the O2 on Wednesday for another gig. Essay to get in before then. Living the dream.

TapasForTwo · 10/03/2019 22:49

I'm envious of her energy. DD is off to another CFS appointment tomorrow. I doubt that she will be able to party like your DD Ursula

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/03/2019 07:44

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to do that Ursula Grin

I hope your dds appointment goes well today Tapas.

raspberryrippleicecream · 11/03/2019 10:02

DD finishes in 2 weeks, revision period starts just before Easter. She has 3 exams before the end of May and first year done!

raspberryrippleicecream · 11/03/2019 10:06

Good luck with the appointment *Tapas

starfleet · 11/03/2019 11:04

DS has a reading week either side of the two week Easter break. He's probably coming back for three weeks but might stay for the first reading week as his birthday is the day he finishes and wants to celebrate with uni friends first before coming home and doing it all over again.

He was back this weekend as he was going to a gig - didn't see a great deal of him as he was either out/sleeping/locked up in his room working on an assignment that had to be submitted today. He's back again next weekend for another gig.
